Saw this live. Was a fantastic run. Shashta was a champ throughout the entire thing, even when the glitch trick wasn't working. He played it cool, saw it through, and still came in under estimate.
the best runs to watch are ones, like this one, where the interactions between the runner and others are respectful and fun. everyone can have their turn speaking and jokes are taken lightly.
Unfortunate about the pedestal clip taking so long, but honestly still a very entertaining run overall in my opinion. Solid commentary by Shasta and the couch
It’s great to see a speed run of this - much faster than my almost 8 hours. It’s also cool to see some of the tricks that make the γ metroid fights go faster.
I came here after hearing about the cringy pedestal glitch expecting an absolute trainwreck of a run and was surprised to see that it ended up being one of the better runs of the marathon with extremely skilled play in general while simultaneously delivering engaging commentary. Great job!
the queen skip makes me wonder if it's possible to do some kind of pacifist run where you kill zero metroids by going out of bounds for the entire game
Loved this run! Mr_Shasta was so entertaining to watch as was the couch crew and the audience rocked too! Awesome tricks (and I don't think that first pedestal clip will ever be seen in quite the same way again!) and all round really good fun!
Actually, its re-used from Super Metroid. That is what the Prime games did too. Why do people keep thinking that the Magmoor Caverns music is a Prime original?
Grant Brown in what way is lower norfair forgettable? It’s a contrast to a lot of the locations in the rest of the game, and the remix in Prime isn’t too different. How does Prime’s mix make it seem like an original track?

It's so pretty. The 3D effect is beautiful on a New 3DS---I'd say it's right up there with Majora's Mask and Kirby Planet Robobot for prettiest 3DS game.
Seeing Samus Returns after playing Dread makes this look so much lesser than it is. I had to play this game with a semi-busted circle pad. I started a hard mode run too but just never got back to it.
I wasn't a huge fan of this game when it first came out because of the parry mechanic, but watching it being run I remember that it's still a Metroid game, and therefore still pretty dang good.

Is it possible to change the camera int this game? I feel like it's too close, you can barely see what's below, as opposite to older 2D metroid games. Anyway, this such a good game, I loved the animations, and tbh I prefer 2D metroid games than 3D ones.
You know at first I really didn't dig shasta. He's grown up, gotten his A game, and become a fun entertaining runner.He's good at what he does and while I might've mocked him a little for his first run. He's earned my respect O7 rock on my dude.

In addition to what the others said... the original version of this game came out in 1991 and was the second Metroid game. Those Metroid metamorphoses have been canon for twenty-six years.
The couch seemed really unnecessary and didn't contribute much. When they did talk, I felt that silence would've been better. The CROWD, though, were hella MVPs!!!
Metroid doesn't target a large crowd like Mario and Zelda does. The games have not been marketed or advertised as hard as other franchises. Its not popular in japan. Lastly, the games are just harder and a lot of casuals don't finish the game.
It has always been a niche series. It also doesn't help that the last several titles were... less than stellar. It hasn't really had the greatest showing in the last decade or so. My sister gave me a "New!" 3DS XL for my birthday and as payment for building a website for her. Picked up this and Ocarina of Time 3D. The last Metroid game I played before Samus Returns was Prime on the Gamecube.
So did they get rid of Metroid Queen in this game and replace her with Ridley? That's a shame and really unnecesary, it was a very emblematic fight. Discovering that you have to go morphball and bomb her stomach when she eats you without the game giving you any hints is one of my top gaming memories.
Carlos Ferreras He completely skipped the Metroid Queen fight, she is in the game (and awesome too). But Ridley is the "surprise" end boss, and while it kinda stomps on the lore and atmosphere of the game, it is a really well designed boss fight.
18:22 Ok, so I just killed this particular boss in a _single_ charged ice beam and looked this up to find out if it was a known glitch. Did... Did I discover something? :o
Literally not even 2 minutes into the run and something I had never heard of was shown, that being touching the screen to morph instead of double tapping down. I WISH I knew that when I did my first 100% playthrough.
