Some of my sustainable swaps are
    1. I never throw big packing wrappers, like of namkeen, surf etc. Use them as linings in cupboard, shelves.
    2. use cloth bag for buying as well as for storing vegetables.
    3. other packaging waste like plastic mithai box, choclate box are used for storage.
    4. refill pen, instead of use-and-throw
    5. I use less paper as much i can, like for rough work i utilize whole page irrespective of margins. Every small to big paper piece or cardbord box is stored with newspapers and then at month end i sell it to raddiwala.
    6. Kitchen waste to compost
    7. I prefer cotton, linen clothes instead of polyester or other synthetic clothes. Also ,I am using 2 jeans from almost 7,8 years as 1 jeans require more than 1000 buckets of water.
    8. I use natural decoration or recyclable like paper origami, dry leaves, natural flowers, paper gift wrap etc
    9. Also I'm a vegetarian.
    10. There is no AC in our home, even we can afford it.

Things I do to lead a more sustainable lifestyle include :
    1. I prefer to handwash my dailywash clothes rather loading them in a washing machine , I don't even own one , it takes hardly 2.5 buckets of water to handwash 1 bucket full of clothes and on the other hand it takes several buckets of water to wash the same 1 bucket of clothes.
    2. I make sure to not to take any polythene bags from small vendors like vegetable and grocery and even at apparel and accessories store and even when I take the bags I make sure I return the bags to some other vegetable vendor or fruit vendor so it can be reused .
    3. I don't own any vehicle , I always use public transportation , specially in a city like Delhi where the public transportation is super reliable.
    4. I make sure to plant 1 tree in a local park or area around Atleast once in a month or two.
    5. I almost never order food to be delivered at my doorstep or try to take lesser take away and prefer to dine-in the restaurant .

The Corner House Ice cream parlour in Bangalore has this amazing concept called BYOB- Bring Your Own Bowl. Every such paper bowl saved is used by them to help CUPA. Seeing this we started getting our steel boxes when we get our food parcels instead of covers.
Every disposable items must be avoided, not just plastic but even paper as trees are cut to make paper. Hence it is better to carry a steel dabba, spoon , tumbler and a copper/steel bottle.
Going for vegan options is the best sustainable option there, as animal agriculture is cruel, unhealthy and environmentally destructive. But in India being a vegetarian is easy, veganism needs a lot of effort and very less options.
By the way, such a wonderful video and thank you for taking such an initiative to change your lifestyle and also influencing others to do it! Keep up the good work ❤️😃

    Some switches I've made in daily routine are like;
*I prefer the paper shopping bags given at stores when we shop at showroom's/stores while going to market and paste it's inner bottom and handle's before-hand with newspaper straps that help sustain if used for carrying some heavy material indeed.
*We've started buying milk from a vendor which we let him pour it in
an utensil instead of buying those come in plastic sacks
*Switched to solar water heater from an electric one
*We donate cloths on a quarter-yearly basis in rotation pattern/family member each quarter
*Crafted carry bags out of unused curtain cloth
*I take out unused shoe laces for hanging the planters instead of just throwing away with the shoes
*We use bottles those come in steel and carry the same
*Made a DIY painting pallet using plastic bottle caps

Thanks for this video. I am sure that it will help more and more people to be aware of our surroundings. These are the things I have been doing in USA since last 2 years
    1. Stopped using plastic containers as much as possible and use glass containers and steel water bottles, paper plates too.
    2. Recycle as much as possible by rinsing milk and juice containers,, egg cartons etc
    3. Try my best to buy fruits and vegetables from farmers market on Saturdays.
    4. Buy mostly cotton clothes and buy only what I need. Have been donating my clothes as well as my daughters that we don’t need since last 10 years. Also have been donating / recycle house hold items that we don’t need to avoid clutter in the house. This helps in reducing accumulating dust too.
    5. Have planted and kept few plants to purify air in each room.
Now working on substituting harmful chemical cleaning products with natural and environment friendly ones !!

I follow and see all your videos. This one by far is the best. A greater message. I personally carry grocery bags with all the time, I avoid plastic containers and recycle them if I get them as much possible. I have switched to soaps from body wash and many more. I also did a plastic free birthday party for my sons 1st birthday and made sure not just plastic but we landfill is less, so we invested in compostable tableware and landed by buying over 300 steel spoons. No balloons and created DIY decorations at home using recycled stuff making sure the landfill is minimal.

Just a day or two ago, I was thinking of how the milk sachets which results from a very basic usage in every home are adding up to the plastic waste...and how I wish the milk booths or Gai walas could probably come into existence again...just shows how every profession is important to maintain the ecological balance.. thank you for this Lovely video...and of course the comment section gives us more ideas on how we could all together bring back our planet into the beautiful home that it has been ♥️

Thanks a lot for this lovely video. I have done all these changes in our life. But still I find 2 major issues on regular basis which I don't know how to deal with.
1- Sometimes we do shop online. Mainly because many things are difficult to find in local shops. But amazon sends with loads of packaging, mainly plastic. Recently I got this bamboo toothbrush same as shown in the video. Sadly that also came wrapped in bubble wrap.
2- Once in a while we order food from outside. I know it's not healthy but ( rarely though) we order sometimes. The problem is they deliver in plastic boxes only. Just hope that we get a better or rather sustainable option of food delivery as well.
    The changes I made -
1- We have been segregating dry waste n thanks to few responsible people in our society, it's been collected twice a week by the society maintenance staff, since last 2 yrs.
    2- Wet waste gets composted.
3- cooked food made sure that there's minimal wastage.
4- buy veggies from local vendors.
5- vegetables storage bags were replaced with cloth bags. Now I carry those small cloth bags directly to buy veggies to save my sorting time at home.
6- TIP - Buy bulk grocery and store them in steel boxes like our moms used to do. Bulk grocery reduces a lot of plastic packaging.
7- replaced all plastic containers to steel and glass.
8- we have few donation drives many times during a yr where we donate almost everything that we don't use. Mostly during Diwali.
9- follow our parents rules of less use of resources.
10- replaced sanitary pads to cotton pads.
11- TIP - don't snip the edge of any plastic packet, that small piece can't be recycled. Always cut them horizontally keeping it attached just to open the packet.
And many more I guess. Don't remember 😀😀

Can't express how much I loved this video !! I've been composting since last year. And strangely enough it got me into gardening. I also never buy plastic pots. .always teracotta ones even though they're costlier. As for dry waste, I segregate all the plastic and donate it to a foundation in my city that converts it into diesel. I don't know whether the waste I generate is taken care of or not so I try to do my best at the starting level itself. Additionally I've grown plenty of plants and will be planting trees soon..the milk bag thing is something I've seen mom do since childhood and thought of how useless it is but like in so many other things now I know mom is right all along. I don't buy clothes unless I really need to. Also..recently got into solar lamps so there's that.

Hello from the island of Mauritius🙂
A few days ago, your channel appeared on my TH-cam feed as I am embarking on this marvelous journey of reclaiming my place as part of Nature as opposed to Nature and I. I intend to follow your advices and the steps you showed in your beginners series. Already, thank you very much for sharing.
Now this video resonates loud and clear with me. In my bag, I have a few foldable shopping bags, my metal straws and my to go coffee cup. I am already making compost. I am still surrounded by plastic bags brought inside the home by others so I wash them every time and hence use them as many times as possible.
There are many other steps i plan on taking. Lately, I realised why we are having such a hard time switching to consuming less plastic and producing less wastes. It is because of the system we are living in and because of the mentality of humans. So, what I am now trying to do is designing my own system and hoping that when others will see how easy it can be to achieve good results just by making a few changes and sticking to them, they will also change their system and ways of living.
All the best in your projects and in your endeavours😊

Fantastically explained! For over 4 years now I carry my own bottle, cup/spoon/box/straw, handkerchief, bag of course to every place i go, to the nearby juice/tea shop or to a trip/trek for as long as 14 days where we re-fill our water to avoid plastic bottles. Composting, gardening, bamboo brush, making own bio-enzymes, eating less meat, ditching the idea of wearing matching accessories are few more. I have been associated with few Eco-teams here in Bangalore especially Reloading Green. I believe less waste lifestyle is not so hard to start with, it's that behavioral change that takes time :) Hey Ekta, pro-tip for wet waste lining, try shredded newspapers or saw-dust or dry leaves or a newspaper lining. It might leak but we always have option to rinse it once in a while

I try as much as i can to use cloth bags & try to refuse plastic bag whenever possible
I donate my old clothes before replacing them with a new ones
Store my plastic waste products & sell it to a vendor (I hardly get Rs 20)
When ordering food, reject plastic spoons (you get that option on zomato)
Oh! yes, I have an e bike (i don't want to give an impression that I am rich, I am not) but I consciously bought that to make sure that I use it regular & sometimes for longer distance. I commute office by that cycle whenever the heat is not scorching.
Thank you, Love from Guwahati (Assam)

For the milk - I switched to the old ways of getting milk. Through the Mother Dairy tokens and carrying the milk in my steak container (dolchi we used to call it in Hindi) ...so in a day I save 3 plastic packets...yay! Also there are milk farms now that deliver milk in glass bottles which you keep exchanging for filled ones next day..

I like the concept and believe me, older ppl had these habits already incorporated in their lives. For me, I have made crochet jute bag for getting vegetables and groceries. Most of the kitchen waste, are used for watering plants like dal and rice water, banana peels water, onion peel water. SO the kitchen waste is reduced a lot. Also, i tried growing methi and other seeds in cardboard boxes (tea, milk cartons, amazon deliveries)- BTW this actually have reduced extra waste and saved money for pots ..
I used plastic bags for line up the cardboard box for growing to give them extra strength. Normally we avoid buying plastic bottles, but then they become sprayers for my indoor plants .

I've began to use ink pens. It cuts the need to buy pens frequently and improves handwriting. A pot of ink can last for months and an ink pen can last for years.

Thanks a lot, ma'am I also have done my work by making compost of my kitchen waste and since I have started composting our house waste generation rate decline up to 50% this is too good for us because now we feel really happy and making money by growing vegetables from the gardening by using this compost. I'm also doing E-waste management in my electrical shop and consulting people about that. thank you, ma'am, for giving us the solution of our hurdles coming in this journey of teaching sustainable development to people.

Loved your video on sustainable living. Since the past few years I too have been trying to be more responsible and concerned about conserving nature.
Lucky our plastics rubber and e- waste are collected monthly and are taken by a local company in kerala. But we have to give Rs100 for taking it. Still we have no complaints.
As I live in Bahrain most of the year I am still finding out ways to dispose of my plastic wastes to recycle centres. For kitchen waste I have made my own compost bin.
Now I am following your videos and trying to set up a garden in my balcony.

Rinsing milk packets, curd pckt, chips packets etc.. Nd thn drying.. I made some Ecobricks also from these plastic packets and straws.. And i m not using straws nd othr single use plastic(nd if i m using, thn i m not throwing in one garbage bin) .. ...Bought cloth bags for vegetables nd rashan things.. ..Nd also bought some cloth sanitary pads... Fr Amazon...segregating my wastes in blue- green dustbins.....actually ye sab tab start hua jab maine ek din dekha ek garbage picker ko ,hum sabka kchra alag krte hua.. I have seen most of the people complaining that they can't do anything when it comes recycling and judicious use of resources.
I am so thankful that people like you are working so happily and properly towards conservation of our earth..
We have started collection water sometimes that comes out of RO and water it to the plants. And also avoid using straws, paper cups and etc
I want people to come out of their ideal wedding idea where they spend way too much money and resources.
    Thanks ma'am. :)

I have replaced my plastic tiffin boxes with glass boxes ( almost 90%). I was always buying my vegetables from the weekly farmer markets that get put up in the sector or my vicinity. Have started storing my groceries in glass containers ( almost 80%) of them.
I really wish to add this composting jar so that the garbage bags can be replaced!!!
But an excellent video!!!! Very useful tips 😘👍🏽👍🏽

I started using menstrual cups, carry my own boxes when I get any food parcel, reduced my online orders as they use lots of plastic and paper to wrap the things.
