Justin if you ever feel guilty about complaining about pleather, don’t feel guilty because Howard Chan and his team needs to hear this, you speak for all of us suffering from hot toys and their pleather fetish. Hi Justin I searched Star Wars Hot Toys and your video was the first to come up. They’re of great quality and are so fun to watch as these figures are just something I can’t prioritize when it comes to spending money. Your videos provide an in-depth review that really gives the viewer the feeling of owning a Star Wars Hot Toys action figure! Keep up the great work.
This will be my first Vader in my collection and after watching your review I am super excited for it. Like you said, only real disappointment is the pleather. However, I have had Count Dooku for years and his pleather still looks brand new.
The pleather suit, boots, and belt are a big turn off for me. I’ve had count dooku since November 2022, I don’t have him in a dynamic pose, I don’t have him in a cabinet yet, and I haven’t put any products on him. His boots and belt have held up as far as I can tell. I think that’s their problem, they make stuff look good instead of something that looks good and durable. It’s like they’re expecting us to put them in boring museum poses when we want to put them in dynamic poses. They need to make stuff that is aesthetically pleasing and take into account how long its lifespan is or it’s going to be. Justin can you show us some figures of yours whose pleather has gone to shit?

Excellent video, Justin 👏👏👏 This figure looks really good. I love my Sideshow Vader, and he looked like he was holding his own pretty well in the comparison section, but i may pick this version up at some point in the future. Well done mate 👏
Great review Justin! Thanks for all your hard work! The pleather is indeed disappointing, and I agree, it seems intentional. I smell an “Artisan Edition” Vader announced within next couple of years.
Awesome review Justin! Thanks for the super-detailed breakdown and those great, great iconic poses with Luke and the Emperor at the end! Like you, this will be my #1 Vader, followed closely by the Kenobi one and then (for me) the Sideshow ROTJ one. Another win for Hot Toys! 🙂
15:43 the flickering really does give Darth Vader that effect of being electrocuted by the Emperor with the removable force lightning around his helmet
Great review, as always. Thanks, Justin! I picked up the standard version and noticed it has the Attack of the Clones logo on the back of the box. Kind of funny!
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… One should _ALWAYS_ get another *Darth Vader,* when're possible; you can _NEVER_ have too many *Darth Vaders* IMHO! 🥰🖤
Thanks for this review…I’ve got this Vader on order and can’t wait to pick it up. Thanks for the contrasts with previous Vaders…I feel less ripped of after selling my ESB Vader now!
Never been so interested, yet reluctant with a Hot toys release. Bought the 1/4 scale ROTJ figure last winter in very good condition and had him stored in a glass cabinet in no dynamic pose. No humidity, no direct sunlight and sprayed it every two months. Now he’s boxed in due to the pleather peeling off. Seemed simply to be age. I LOVED that figure and was so stoked to have an updated, definitive Vader from my favourite OT film. Yet again, Hot Toys goes for the cheaper alternative:( Might consider the battle-damaged one with the wired cape, since it seems to be finally with a new material

This will be my only vader so far. Can't wait. You may recall I told you before, I sold my entire 1/12 collection. I managed to fund 7 hot Toys and 1 sideshow. Absolutely so glad I did, I love these figures. I also have 3 on pre order. And want to pre order Anakin & Ahsoka clone wars. What have I started. Lol. :)
I just got that same Vader and for now I am loving the light and dark side of it, and have him posed battling my Mandalorian season 2 Luke, since to me that Luke is an honorary EPVI Luke.
No wonder that this figure won you over Justin, it looks amazing in the video, and in real life, probably even better. For me the new battle damaged Vader with the nylon outfit and the mask shaped cape tops this one by a hair, but for now, this is the best Darth Vader that you can get, I agree. Love that you did the throwing pose at the end ✌🏻
Been eagerly awaiting this review. This was my second PO ever, and I cannot wait for SS to ship it. For all the reasons you mentioned, I decided to keep this iconic Vader and instead sell off the Kenobi Vader (as cool as it is). For purposes of my collection, I only need 1 Vader and always planned to display it 'clear'. So ROTJ Vader just edges out Kenobi Vader. Really appreciate the comparison segment - that SS Vader is tempting as a sort of legacy pick up.
My theory as to why they didn’t change the suit to nylon was likely because the figure was too far into production to make last minute changes, because this figure was announced and put into production last year, and that dark empire luke was put into production this year, where they started using nylon. As for the update helmet sculpt, I think they were updating it as it went into production. Justin do you think my theory sounds feasible?
I don't think so. They've been using nylon for suits like batman beyond since 2021. Changing a material choice even last minute wouldn't require new patterns, just some sewing which can be done in large part by machine and cheaply. Tailoring is the cheapest part of production for any figure. Molds cost the most to modify or change.
I did not pre-order this, ad instead got the Obi-Wan Kenobi Vader, but joined a waitlist now that I have seen this video! And I agree with the new base helmet sculpt update HT did. I have always thought the Empire Strikes Back Vader helmet was inaccurate.
This looks alot better when the lights on his chest box are off compared to the Kenobi Vader. Like you said in your review of that fig,it looks like he's deactivated.
For me the definitive Vader is the yet to be released Hot Toys Battle Damaged Deluxe Vader. I am not too much into Star Wars but when I saw that figure iit was love at first sight. I just fell in love with that figure so I immediately had to pre order it. It will be my first Vader and the definitive one.
When mine eventually arrives, I'm definitely gonna use the Sebastian headsculpt. I also have the Kenobi battle damaged Vader. I ordered the standard version, which doesn't have the light up helmet. Dont get the staircase either. The severed hand is included. Great in-depth review as always Justin.
Got this and going to grab the full battle damaged one next year and that should be the only 2 Vaders I want. They will most likely make and Episode 3 version next year of the 20 years since ROTS. Hopefully nylon suit for that if they do it.
I feel like they will eventually start producing leather or nylon suits (aside from the battle damaged one), but it will probably start with an episode 4 reissue or 2.0 sometime in the future lol. Thanks for the review, Justin!
Palpatine with force lightning effects zapping Vader or recreating the scene from ROTJ. It looks so good to let the figures interact together like this. Btw, I remember having a tanktop with the flaming V in Vader, so I don't think that Hot Toys came up with it
I think his chest box and his armor got replaced most often, whereas the belt boxes got replaced very little, so that's why the belt boxes have chipping
Hot Toys giving him a Sebastian Shaw head sculpt is super cool, I’m holding out hope we get a 2.0 ROTJ Fett with a Jeremy Bulloch head sculpt as an exclusive or something.
The cheeks being different sheens is actually accurate. I've have several props of his helmet both scale and not to scale and there is one shiny side and one flat side. You never notice it in the movies.
I can’t say anything, I have 3 Spider-Mans, 2 Iron Man’s, 2 Captain Americas, and I have preordered 2 Wolverines…so long answer short….there will literally never enough…😂😂😂😂 Great review
I guess Hot Toys has an excess of pleather they need to use up? I love those bases. Here’s hoping that one day they will figure out we need multiple bases sometimes. I love that translucent helmet sculpt.
30:05 happy to hear they fixed the hand swapping issue on the HTs Vaders. One of the reasons I sold my HT TESB and bought SS's. Also happy to see they change the helmet instead of reusing that weird TESB one. Still sticking with my SS ROTJ vader. Just don't see enough reason to sell and buy.
Never bought a Vader cause I knew one day we'd get the ROTJ version. Mando/Bespin Luke head sculpt with ROTJ hair, I did the same it's so much better. 👍
As much as I love Hayden, Sebastian is the Vader for me he’s the most iconic and am glad I have both cuz I love them both Hayden cuz he reminds me of Anakin but Sebastian has always been Darth Vader for me since I saw him in the cinema when I was 15 so all this years he’s been Vader in my mind. The diorama is also a big win & also the stand which lights up ohhhhh yeah! Definitely 💯 the Darth Vader for me. I also have the Emperor so am going to do that pose when I get it in hand. Tnx for the review cannot wait to get it 💯
@@GyudonDream Sebastian Shaw is the actor who played Vader unmasked, David Prowse is the actor who also plays Vader with the mask on and James Earl Jones is the voice.
Wish there was an option for chest light piece and electric head to use a USB cable. Not a fan of changing batteries. I’d like to just turn it on and leave it on most of the day and then turn off at night. It’s not like I’m playing with it. Don’t need batteries 🤷. Wires are annoying but I’m sure you can find a way to hide it.
The real question is.... will this still be your favorite when the Mythos inspired Vader comes out..... The Vader/Luke walking pose was great, brought back watching RoTJ "with my own eyes".
I have the HT Vader 1.0 still in the shipper box. Don’t ask, I’m a terrible procrastinator and heard the battery installation is a big pain. I also thought the 1.0 and the one that came with Tarkin in the 2 pack were the same, except maybe the voice effects which wasn’t a feature in the 2 pack? Anyway I have the latest one and yes, I’ll unbox it soon.
So I received my standard figure today. First impressions: its one of the most toyish figures I've bought from Hot Toys, it feels light, the shoulder armour is disappointingly thin and feels cheap. The plastic cape clasp is average at best. Not tried the light up features yet but the lack of cables and a battery pack for the head/Belt/base also means HT cheaped out. Overall I feel its a 6.5/10. I needed a Vader in my collection but would have preferred a bit more effort from HT. If you feel you need one, got for it. Otherwise maybe wait for a better version.
Just received my copy and he's amazing. Although I didn't expect that the silver parts on his mask are very flimsy and broke the right side when I was posing him. Are the other versions like that as well?
@JustinsCollection do you have any knowledge how to protect them permanently from peeling since you been collecting for some time. Do you have some that have peeled? If so, what do you do to them?

Nice! I ended up going with that head too
Got this and going to grab the full battle damaged one next year and that should be the only 2 Vaders I want. They will most likely make and Episode 3 version next year of the 20 years since ROTS. Hopefully nylon suit for that if they do it.
Good choices!
I absolutely love this channel
Damn thank you!
I feel like they will eventually start producing leather or nylon suits (aside from the battle damaged one), but it will probably start with an episode 4 reissue or 2.0 sometime in the future lol. Thanks for the review, Justin!
Agreed they will sell us the same figures again
Palpatine with force lightning effects zapping Vader or recreating the scene from ROTJ. It looks so good to let the figures interact together like this.
Btw, I remember having a tanktop with the flaming V in Vader, so I don't think that Hot Toys came up with it
Love it!
He's an absolute unit!!
He is!
I would have definitely gotten this if not for the pleather.
Fair
I think his chest box and his armor got replaced most often, whereas the belt boxes got replaced very little, so that's why the belt boxes have chipping
Fair enough
Hot Toys giving him a Sebastian Shaw head sculpt is super cool, I’m holding out hope we get a 2.0 ROTJ Fett with a Jeremy Bulloch head sculpt as an exclusive or something.
Not sure that would happen unfortunately as we never saw him unhelmeted on screen
Flaws aside, I cannot wait to get my hands on this figure. I pre-ordered it in advance
He's solid!
The cheeks being different sheens is actually accurate. I've have several props of his helmet both scale and not to scale and there is one shiny side and one flat side. You never notice it in the movies.
Yep!
When and if i ever get a hottoys figure for the first time, i hope its this guy
Nice!
Definitely going to pose it with the standard base because it looks awesome
Nice!
I can’t say anything, I have 3 Spider-Mans, 2 Iron Man’s, 2 Captain Americas, and I have preordered 2 Wolverines…so long answer short….there will literally never enough…😂😂😂😂
Great review
Haha you and me both!
I guess Hot Toys has an excess of pleather they need to use up? I love those bases. Here’s hoping that one day they will figure out we need multiple bases sometimes. I love that translucent helmet sculpt.
Could be haha
Any suggestions on how to “maintain” the pleather ? Thx ..
Maybe 303 can help?

happy to hear they fixed the hand swapping issue on the HTs Vaders. One of the reasons I sold my HT TESB and bought SS's. Also happy to see they change the helmet instead of reusing that weird TESB one. Still sticking with my SS ROTJ vader. Just don't see enough reason to sell and buy.
Yes so much better!
Awesome review I had to order one of these for myself becaue this figure looks nice and it’s Darth Vader so why not
Yeah fair
Never bought a Vader cause I knew one day we'd get the ROTJ version. Mando/Bespin Luke head sculpt with ROTJ hair, I did the same it's so much better. 👍
Sick!
Tnx for the review cannot wait to get it 💯
Sad, I don’t know who Sebastian is?
@@GyudonDream Sebastian Shaw is the actor who played Vader unmasked, David Prowse is the actor who also plays Vader with the mask on and James Earl Jones is the voice.
@@Gatchaman01 thank you so much for taking time and giving me some information about the old Vader. I appreciate it!
Fair
Very good details of the classics 🤙🏻
Agreed
Wish there was an option for chest light piece and electric head to use a USB cable. Not a fan of changing batteries. I’d like to just turn it on and leave it on most of the day and then turn off at night. It’s not like I’m playing with it. Don’t need batteries 🤷. Wires are annoying but I’m sure you can find a way to hide it.
There are no batteries it's USB
@@JustinsCollection oh! That’s awesome 👏🏼 must’ve misunderstood. Good choice 👍
The real question is.... will this still be your favorite when the Mythos inspired Vader comes out.....
The Vader/Luke walking pose was great, brought back watching RoTJ "with my own eyes".
We shall see!
I just want to point out that my Black Series Count Dooku has a proper saber trail. The trail even has a thicker blade that the trail.
Nice!
This is going to be my first hot toy, very keen
Sick!
Definitely get to it! Pleather being sealed in a box is actually more risky than opening it up! I hope your's is all good in there!
Fair enough
Still glad i got it and your review did a good job of managing my expectations.
does anyone know when sideshow will ship them out to the states?
Only they know that unfortunately
I see the poll did not lie. Thanks Justin
I always try and listen!
That’s Vader “tattoo” style name is part of the art style guide used for Vader uses around 2005 if I’m not mistaken
Nice
Awesome! Look forward to getting my copy!
Sick!
Just received my copy and he's amazing. Although I didn't expect that the silver parts on his mask are very flimsy and broke the right side when I was posing him. Are the other versions like that as well?
Would using 303 periodically make the pleather last?
Nothing will make it last forever unfortunately
sick!!! little bit of wire would have been 💯 killer review as always!!
Agreed
“This is the Endor version without the Endor shit on him” 😂😂😂
Legit lol
This guy deserves more views
Damn thank you!
If you coat the pleather with acrylic matte finisher, shouldn't that solve the problem?
Not sure
@JustinsCollection do you have any knowledge how to protect them permanently from peeling since you been collecting for some time. Do you have some that have peeled? If so, what do you do to them?
I buckled and bought the Kenobi series battle damaged Vader. Is there a reason why Hot Toys isn't swaying away from pleather?
I have no fucking idea.
So they can sell you a new one when this flakes
@@JustinsCollection You would figure that with the number of them released, there would be a third party market that makes leather/ nylon versions. Ps. Thanks for the great content, Justin!
