Everything was simpler with PO, spawn in, go down some stairs, take you ship out, go through the doors, get into your ship and hop you're out, now ... there's so much more to do to reach your ship and the terminals
I LOVED the whole end game plan, crafting, industry and reputation... it showed us that Star Citizen will cater for long term playability, sustained interest and progression and overall longevity. This is what I was hoping for. Yes, it is, as always only a plan, but it was a plan that the community desperately needed. These were very positive points from CitCon and I'm happy to wait, if it's all worth it. We've waited long enough, what's a few more years, lol. Good stuff😆
@@Maddock_ There's lots of thing they could have sat down and thought about 5yrs ago, tbh. And it's not too late, SC is uniquely a slow burn project that is subject to feature creep... but in many way it's also a cool aspect of the development. This is NOT a normal game and project, this is what attracts many of us to it. CIG is far from perfect, but they're daring to be bold and despite a bumpy, long road, they're delivering the vast majority of what they've set out to do. When the alpha PU doesn't work, it's HORRIBLE, lol, but when it works, there is NOTHING else out there like it. This is why I'm drawn to it. It's different and unique and ambitious and that's what I've been missing from gaming for so long. I'm in it for the long haul, I have no need for them to rush this. I have other games and interests to tie me over for the mean time, I'm happy to wait - I believe it will be worth it.
@@Maddock_ They had thought about it 5 years ago, they were just so wrapped up trying to get SQ42 feature complete they didn't have time to go through it all, now that's in polishing phase all the SQ42 devs will have been moved over to the PU so they aren't twiddling their thumbs which is why we've had a sudden bump in progress, either way the PU is still a long way off being ready which is probably why Roberts said he's gonna drop SQ42 in 2026, that gives him 24 months to get the PU into what he's hoping is a good enough state to be able to be playable for people who have just finished the single player campaign to bring in more development funding.
i like the idea of being able to open a party and have random players willing to join you in game. as a solo player myself that feels like it will be the best way to get all solo players a real chance at playing some of these group missions
The complete lack of shame standing there in a gathering of demonstrably clueless 40 year old virgins. Never in history did they managed to gather so many cosmically daft clown in one area. wow . That's a great point. We saw a great representation of certain things, but hopefully they can add in things like liquids and gases without doing it manually. It would be good to use bodies of water to divide some points of interest. There should also be lava, and a variety of different things.

They’ll be selling “priority queue” subscriptions for joining full servers before there is any server stable enough to reach a full play count before crashing. I mean shoot, they are selling “lifetime insurance” before they’ve even added the full vehicle insurance mechanic so it’s not far fetched.
Last year was 'finishing 4.0 (we can't talk about making an MMO because server meshing might not pan out)'. This year was 'starting 1.0 (hey we are making an MMO guys!)'. Early stuff but spruced up to advertise to the wider MMO crowd. I look forward to seeing how Genesis (Starchitect) will help to populate POIs with local lore/narrative and economy/missions. I know it's too much to ask that every NPC I meet is unique and has a persistent evolving life over years (until they inevitably die in the crossfire during a local org battle, o7, I'll miss you Bob), but something in that direction, just enough that I can suspend my disbelief and each POI cluster has a slightly unique character would be nice.
Giving NPCs a simulated home life isn't a priority versus actually making a good core gameplay loop and functional game economy (not one that's pretty much entirely built around microtranactions)
It would have been great to have a rough timetable what they will work on first, etc. They have shown us stuff that will take 5-10 years to build, and no priorities.
@@HoneyTwee For sure, it would be a bad move to simulate individual lives, but it would also be a bad move if there where just 6 NPCs copy pasted 100,000 times. I'm just hoping whatever they do that they do it in a way that they can expand and improve on it later.
@@kevinscales I thought the whole point of server meshing is that they can replace NPCs with players? And long term they wanted to have either no NPCs or just mission givers. But no NPCs just roaming the corridors. They need to make the core gameplay loop less glitchy and repetitive with lackluster ground combat before they work on more set dressing such as NPCs
@@HoneyTwee "I thought the whole point of server meshing is that they can replace NPCs with players?" They have never said this. In fact they always said (this may have changed but they haven't said it has changed) that the game will be 90% NPCs - 10% players. They need server meshing to allow the game to be an MMO at all and allow fleet battles between hundreds or hopefully even thousands of players (and NPCs). They also need it to have better NPCs (they need to be simulated, which takes server computations).
This year's event cemented for me that we will, indeed, reach year 20 before a 1.0 release. I know, people will have myriad "reasons" that isn't the case but I think it's just clear as day they have at least 10 years of work ahead of them. Bittersweet.
Par the course for vaporware. They just keep adding more and more and intentionally doing feature creep. I remember when 2020 was memed as a release date, few actually believed in it. Now it's supposed to come out in 2026 lmao, doubt they make even that

With how long it's taking to introduce Pyro, I'm not holding my breath when it comes to 1.0 release with all the ambitious systems they want to add to get there. Another 15-20 years to 1.0 I guess.
Gotta remember the first one takes the longest they have to build everything and make sure it works before they can just use the tech to start making new system back to back I think 5 more years and 1.0
You can use your Star Citizen as a family heirloom, and when the time comes, your descendants will sing full of praise because their ancestor made a good investment.

I went to my first comic convention at 28yo. It was more than just a comic convention. It was really a convention for all nerdy things. And it was just like you said. Being around SO MANY people that shared my passions for different media, knowing that you're surrounded by like minded people, it's an incredibly uplifting and energizing experience.
The thing about base building arriving, at least as I understand it, is as follows: They said that base-building will launch in-game before the Pioneer is flyable. However the Pioneer is on the 'next 12 months' teaser from the ship panel. So it seems they expect to have the initial base building, maybe only small structures or up to large, within the next 12 months. Which is very exciting.
Yeeeah, historically the info from the ship matrix is not always the most reliable, so I don't know about the 12 months... Still, they said that all the major features presented should be coming in the next 12-18 months, so fingers crossed that we get *some* form of base building within this timeframe. I won't hold my breath for the Pioneer though ;)
They actually said that everything they showed last year at citcon they plan to release THIS year. Chris himself said they have released most of it and rest they are planning to get out before the year end. Base building was part of last year's reveals soooo... expect base building within the next 2 months. Early next year at the latest
I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and optimism but unfortunately I do not share it. I've been a backer since 2016 (so not as long as a lot of you) and I do not see an end in sight. It's one thing to miss deadlines and promises by a year or even 2, it's another entirely to be in new decades with no end in site and the goal posts being moved again. S42 was "feature complete" in 2023 but won't se release for another 2 years? And I know new features sound awesome, but they just push the finished product out even more. From 100 systems to 5 for release 1.0? I don't see the PU being at 1.0 in this decade tbh.
I was also left with several questions - How does persistence work with procedurally generated worlds? With new ship tiers added (1-5), how do I know which one I purchased? Did I spend all that money on just a tier 1 ship? With procedurally generated worlds how do bases work? Can other players see my base etc? And I have SO many questions about ship insurance... I get that they want loss to matter, but this whole system just sounds so frustrating the way it's been described...
@@danure Procedurally generated worlds just means they have more tools to create the worlds. It's the same as now except faster. So yes, your player base will absolutely be visible to other players - I think that's pretty clear from all the talk of shields and defences. Also, limiting the scope to 5 star systems for 1.0 is a good thing. It means they have a clearly defined goal and they're not trying to take the Ellie Dangerous approach of millions of empty, boring systems.
The last update on NPC crew and ai blades is NONE of that is coming in before the player facing side ... engineering, etc gets fully implimented. I can board a NPC ship, kill the pilot and now i have a ship with turrets controlled by NPC ..the tech for ai blades is already there - it just needs the front facing stuff like player interfaces to equip / unequip, select variants ..etc. Better either go with solo-able ships or make friends ..the ai /npc crew stuff is coming wayy down the line
Let's estimate how long it will take to get to 1.0. Until the end of 2026 the main focus will be SQ42. Chris will do anything and involve everyone needed to release it by the end of 2026. And despite that it was "feature complete" in 2023, we all understand that they are still actively working on it. Otherwise it won't need 3 years of work after being "feature complete". By 2026 they may or may not have new planet tech to build 3 new systems. Each system will need tens of thousands of hours of work from all teams. Especially Terra. They want to complete EVERY mechanic they have for 1.0. And they have not completed a SINGLE mechanic in 12 years. They will need to develop and build main story line. They will need to develop, release and fix crafting and base building. In parallel they will need to spend a huge amount of time building and updating tools and making and updating ships. And once everything is ready they need another 1-2 years to polish and balance everything. So when is 1.0 coming? I say around 2035.
Honestly the way they talked about the impermanence of structures and bases, having to defend them and so on, it feels a solo player may have no chance of participating in base building either. Not without paying protection money to racketeering orgs. If it goes Eve's route as a radical free market, there's no way you could keep a profitable base alone without it getting on someone's radar.
Those who can influence what is happening especially the government regularly need to see this from the strategic perspective and how this may impact the entire local gaming industry. They say when the music is on, everyone is a winner.
To answer the "when" question: everything is 2 years away, as always. Also the demo crashed 3 times, not twice. Once during the turret section, once during the henry cavill space combat scene and once towards the very end when scully glitched out.
Heya Morph, it was a pleasure to meet you at the Atmo event after CitCon. I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your trip and I am looking forward to more of your content in the future. Liked and Subscribed, as promised. ;)
For real, the player driven economy from all points in production and transport makes for some of the most amazing and unique moments in gaming. EVE literally has multiple hour long documentaries covering some of the events.
@laurentguyot3362 That's a very very hard line to walk, and I think that's why they're going for a split game, having the MMO and single player be two separate entities.
@@oFFtheWall518 I think it's quite possible to make some systems "gardens" for solo play. If you just want to hop into a prospector and do some mining and then some space trucking, it's entirely possible to do this within at least 1-2 out of all the systems that are planned. Though whenever you say this, the no-lifers pile on you because you dare to want to also have something to do while having IRL responsibilities. I'm cool with doing a few things here and there on my own, and then also doing things with my org. Why can't we do both? I mean, it's entirely possible. A lot of us since the game was announced started families, we have kids, and we've got very high-stress jobs. Some of us even work on technologies that CIG makes use of :))
@@oFFtheWall518 I think it's no longer split though. They even will now have a main story campaign, that will essentially be your solo story content from your standard MMO. And that will be the "basic nervous system that connects all parts of the game". Also, you have instanced content and stuff like raids and dungeons. So basically they turned SC form a full sandbox game into a sandbox + themepark experience (which is great imo). That will also help solo players a lot. And ultimately the game WILL require NPC crew and AI blades to work, period. There is no way around that. Even a 50k player org will not be able to have players to mindlessly man turrets and patrol hallways in their space station just in case the random weekly attack happens. People would be bored out of their minds. This will never be a thing and you want 100% NPCs for that. And NPC crew/companions will be what makes solo players truly be able to experience all SC content. As it always was the plan (there are hours and ahours of them talking about how you will be able to use NPC crew to solo everyhitng up to a cap ship).
I've been a backer for 10 years, and was really hoping for more than this. Last year SQ42 seemed so close and Star Engine was incredible, but hearing 2026 has just killed any hype for me. Especially since it's the same kind of hand wavey timeframe Roberts has given us before. What's crazy to me is that even with its staff being overworked and treated poorly (based on a number of reports from staff to the press) CIG is still so poorly managed that they couldn't deliver anything of substance at CitizenCon this year. Even a slightly bigger Pyro playtest would have been something. Instead we just got more promises and at least for me that's not enough anymore.

I’d recommend jumping in. As long as you temper your expectations (you WILL face bugs and issues) theres still a lot of game to enjoy right now. If the doomers are right and it’ll never be released, I’ve had more than enough enjoyment to warrant the cost of the game package I bought (Titan)
@@jcmorgan26 you part of the problem lol recommending a game riddled with issues, boring gameplay loops and so on. stfu before recommending this to anyone, go and enjoy it by yourself if you like it so much
I love the game - but every year we fall for this. The videos look fantastic, they play silky smooth. The dreams and thoughts that go into them are incredible. then we go on live and cant get out of a bed for 35 minutes and when we do it bugs. so we then server hop for 20 minutes in the hope that we can play. After 12 years i cant help but feel like Chris is just making fun of us to see how far he can push it and we still give money
U rly think they've done all this work, and all this new tech, and all hardships and fumbles, all the devs are doing this for nothing? Let me remind you star citizen is thee most ambitious game project ever. Most AAA games take decades to make, look at rdr2 that took 8 years. Look at GTA 6, that took over 10 years. Look at final fantasy xv, 10 years. Cyberpunk2077, 9 years. Keep in mind all these games are FARRR less ambitious than what star citizen is trying to accomplish. The only difference between those games and star citizen is they don't allow transparency. They reveal the game when it's done. And before that most people didn't even know it was in development. The reason people look at star citizens differently is they(the devs) are very very transparent about the ongoing development of the game. Including all the revisions and new tech tools they develop. Players feel like the way they do because the development is so publicly available.
@@Namaka420 Cyberpunk was 4 years in development because they fcked up. So no it was not 9 years of development. U are just coping that they will ever release it.
Y'know a lot of people, especially outside the community love to chirp about the 700+ million in funding talking point, but also in their ignorance fail to recognize most AAA games nowadays cost half a billion to make. Again, look at cod modern warfare 3, the game, and I sht u not, literally cost 500 million to make. GTA 6, reportedly over a billion, almost 2. Again, these games are FARRR less ambitious than star citizen. Imo, star citizen rly gets an unfair amount of criticism. They're not like the other studios, cig was built from the ground up. They went from nothing, to a self sufficient independent studio. When u put into perspective where the money actually goes, and how fcking HARD game development is, not to mention the rising costs of game development. CIG has actually managed these projects quite well.
Great meeting you outside that hotel, seems like you were talking with people throughout the whole event, so cant wait to hear your thoughts on the different panels!
The dangerous weather stuff is something I've wanted for some time. Glad to actually see some. Will be sweet whenever we can actually experience it, one day.
@@mattvmalone You know all research literally points to the comment being true lol the amount of broadening the scope is the reason this game will not be until at least 2030
@@mattvmalone So the games hasnt failed to meet every deadline while at the same time using the "it will be even better at the next release window " for over a decade? and not to mention most of what they showed especially 1.0 is going to come out closer to 2030 if not even longer than that
@@mattvmalone As a fan of star citizen and a backer since 2012, he's correct. Instead of just producing and finishing a solid foundation and expanding off that, they continue to add more and more and more without ever finishing any of it. We were not promised base building or satisfactory style crafting 8 years ago. So hold off on that until you have a finished game to put out.
Some of these features they are working on shouldnt be a priority, like base building. We dont even have a quarter of the base game ready and base-building seems like a feature you implement with spare time, and theyre currently at negative 4 years.
They need to keep people excited to generate revenue, and according to some rumors (not sure how true they are), their financial situation isn't as strong as it once was. In a few years, they might even start talking about how you can build cities. Normally, I'm someone who says, "It’s ready when it’s ready," but Star Citizen has been in development for so long that it's almost a joke at this point. Base building is a nice feature, but it should have been saved for post-1.0 content. That kind of feature can get really complex, especially in a game the size of Star Citizen. Satisfactory has been in development for eight years, with early access starting in 2019, and unlike SC, they recently released version 1.0. I’ve played through all of Satisfactory’s early access, and it’s clear to me that SC won't be as complex as Satisfactory.
There is no release date, this is their final product and actual business at this point. I‘d love to start one too in the future, looks easier than AAAA studios getting bashed by fanbase all over
I'm glad that they're finally in a place with their technology and tools where they can start creating the "game" part of the game. Everything is still years out though so it's hard for me to get excited. I hope it doesn't go past 2026 for SQ42 or SC 1.0.
My son was just born 8 months ago. I hope to play this with him in about 10 years. Yeah... We know how things go with SC, don't we? But I'm serious. Lol.
tier-0 versions implemented over the next couple of years, then 2-3 years of upgrading to final versions and balancing (and getting all 5 systems in and finalized (in terms of planet tech/POIs)), then 1-2 years of optimizing and polish and more balancing and testing the crafted story missions (basically the beta period), then release in 2030 (optimistic). Assuming all the tech integrates together nicely. I could be wrong though. If the S42 devs are really speeding up the development of SC then I could see things moving a little quicker, but that means more bugs faster too.
I just like to pop in to see the ships and maps they design. They make awesome assets, but other than that I still have no faith that they'll ever release a game.
If you are on the fence about making it to an event: you can get ships in game but these events really highlight the lightning in the bottle that Star Citizen is.
My favorite part is watching the exact same stupid “jokes” being told over and over again ad-nauseam because people desperately want to make sure everyone knows how upset they are about this project. Followed closely by them thinly disguising it as “a little trolling.”
CIG has demonstrated that they can say whatever they want if it's in a convention presentation format and they will refill hopium tanks for the year, enough to keep people buying ships until the next Citcon. Do we even have the big things they showed last year, Pyro and server meshing, yet? Aside from ships and one animal, how much do we actually have from last year? Master modes? The new inventory UI? How did those turn out? What about Squadron, which was in polishing last year but is now releasing in 2026, meaning it's taking a full three years to polish? What about the big features from previous years that have failed to materialize or are still half-finished, buggy or broken? They are not delivering. Nothing matters until you're playing it, and even then, CIG has shown that they're unable to polish a feature without numerous iterations and revisions post-release. Citcon is a presentation which sells you on features to be delivered (or not) years later while they build the features they announced years ago. If that isn't a ponzi scheme, it's certainly ponzi scheme adjacent.
The only thing that really worth something is the Squadron 42 Gameplay Reveal, at least it's the only one that is not a greybox or pre-production(tho they delayed it for another 2 years bruh).
@@OwOTenno Is it actually worth anything? They've shown high production value and polished-looking trailers and gameplay videos from Squadron 42 multiple times at Citcon over the past decade, and yet here we are again, two years away. People have such short-term memories when it comes to this stuff, and it feels like so many people are susceptible to CIG's production and presentation that they don't seem to even care when CIG fails them, over and over again.
It took Cyberpunk 2077 THREE years of post-release patches to bring it up to performance par of what it should have been at release, and Cyberpunk 2077 is nowhere near as big as Squadron42. And they deliveried most of everything from last year's CitCon minus Maelstrom. The other stuff is either in 3.24.2 or in 4.0, which is in Evocati.
I've been following Star Citizen off and on since 2016 when I pledged for S42. The Squadron 42 into was really, really impressive. It looks great, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I can only hope that it's actually within reach this time.
Loved the video! Thanks for the update - man this looks great - like you, I wish we knew WHEN! They're finally talking about the GAME to be played and not just the ships and universe to play in. And by golly, it only took twelve years. LOL ;)
I just paid for a burger at CIG burgers . I ask “hey is the burger I paid for done yet?”, and the cashier goes “No, your burger isnt even close to done yet, but guess what, check out this secret special burger we got coming in a couple months”… me: “does the burger have lettuce?” … CIG “ooo yesss!! The burger has lettuce and tomatoes what else do you want on a burger ? Bacon? Guess what ??!! This burger is gonna have bacon too can you believe it!!! “ … and they sell you the brochure for the special burger while your still waiting …………….
Imagine the shipping/industry side of org building and the connections that can be made by engaging in it. A mining org will probably team up with a trucking org and a refining org to prepare tons of minerals to sell to orgs dedicated to construction. I would love to set up an org that helps other orgs get their bases set up!
8:10 I too was reminded of Eve online. Crafting opens up a player based economy. I’m predicting that Citizen Con next year will need to include the buy/sell listings. Business focused players will need to be able to let other players find their stock. In eve, I remember being an ammo making. Making and hauling ammo to lesser visited stations, adjusting sale prices to stay ahead of the competition, whilst turning a profit.
The thing that struck me was that they seem to be taking all the best parts of Star Wars Galaxies and bringing them into SC. Which is wonderful...I've missed SW:G ever since I stopped playing it. This is a spiritual successor that I've been pining for for years.
Sad I didn’t say hi at the weekend (think I was sat near you on the last day front row on the left) but was focussed on the panels whenever I saw you. Was a great weekend my first in person citcon and deffo considering going to more.
My guilty pleasure is dipping in to see what flashy new things Citizen con has to offer and every time i am filled with hope of what it could be. But in doing so i am reminded that everything i'm seeing is like 5 years away. i mean Pyro was announced in 2018? 2019? and still we do not have it. The new planet tech is very pretty but... when will we see it? I think the 1 thing SC could really use is tangible changes we can get our hands on in shorter intervals. Announce something and in 6 months we are playing it, or at least before the next Citizen con. As it is i don't expect my character to sit and watch a sunset while a storm rolls in and giant sky whales fly over head until 2030. And yet i still have hope things will pick up soon. Love your videos and pleasant voice.
Pyro and jump points were supposed to be in game in 2018... The "roadmap" to system jumping was announced in 2016 to be delivered in 2018. Yes they are 6 years behind on just getting Pyro into PU which was being built using planet tech v2. The new planet tech is definitely beautiful, but planet jesus tech was also talked about back in 2018 for planet tech v3. Then again in 2020 we got planet tech v4. I think in 2023 we got planet tech v5 which is what was used to create these new beautiful planets for citcon. Each time they show a new planet tech, it is going to speed things up. We are still waiting on our second system to come to game. The dynamic weather they showed looks amazing. I hope to one day be able to enjoy it.
By then it will probably be a subscription based data streaming data game. With season passes, micro transactions ... 😂 and Orcs, Humans, Night Elves, and gender neutral Dwarfs raiding bosses in Space... 😭
My mind was blown watching the stream. We now know what to expect. Only that we will be old and grey. 😅 But I applaud how ambitious they are. 😊. I cant wait tonsee what is next.
Loved this years Citcon. My least favourite thing about it is that I get so hype for everything they show but remember that none of it is actually playable yet.
I remember them saying that if you had a high enough rep with the council you could steal and claim ships as your own. Will be very interesting to see if that applies to super capitals like the bengal as well. Would love to see outlaw orgs going after lawful orgs’ cap ships to add them to their own fleet. Would encourage people to man those super caps and org stations to keep them from being stolen as well. Loved the roadmap for 1.0 over all. We’ll see how they do in execution.
The entire presentation was amazing with the base building the coolest stuff but there is a tinge of sourness to it. Reading articles of alleged developer overwork, Chris micromanagement, and continued feature creep has me kinda bummed. In the end, the only two things I want is a completed game and for the developers not to suffer.
Believe me if you want, but I'm a dev at CIG, and personally, overwork for citizencon, at least, wasn't bad at all. We get plenty of time off after having to work harder for certain releases. Maybe it'll get worse as we approach squadron 42 full release in 2026, but for now, having helped out for the citizencon demo, its very manageable :)
is good to base some of the systems on eves ones, they have been perfecting them for many years so its a good place to start. really excited for everything we saw next 18 months or so are going to be good ones.
I am as much a supporter as anyone, of the project, the concepts; all of it. But.. Any other investor can reasonably demand timelines. I dont care how many deadlines they have missed. The lack of time frames given for anything other than ship silhouettes, and a 12-month window for squadron (thats 3 years after being feature complete) is disappointing
Sure, but imagine what kind of game SC would've been if they had an investor that demanded release 5 years ago. It wouldn't even be what we have now in the live build, but a shallow imitation of what we want.
@@artuno1207 True, but the common game development model is to release a game and then keep adding to it making it better and better. Granted a lot of studios release their games waaaaay too soon and suffer for it but the good companies keep working on it and keep developing it. Even if SC were to release in the next 2 years, i'm confident they would keep working on it for the next 20 years. But Cblan1224 has a point, any other business would be in deep trouble with their investors if their product release window was vague at best. I think the best thing CIG can do is ramp up their development and start showing an increase in pace where we get more progress we can play in shorter intervals now that all the heavy coding seems to be fairly finished, now is the time where we should see the leisurely stroll of game development become a sweaty jog and then sprint.
Base building and crafting is exactly what I was hoping for, and honestly is totally in line with what they had been saying all along, just now the details are there. But pretty much exactly as expected and that made me happy. Actually the biggest surprise for me was the ability to build shops in bases, which is honestly making me question my purchase of the BMM and Kraken Privateer as the main reason I got those was to allow me to set up shops to sell my crafted goods, and that is really no longer necessary. I am slight depressed, though honestly not surprised, that space stations will be Org only, but damned if I'm not going to try to build one by myself anyway. If nothing stops me from trying anyway haha.
Them actually showing someone PLAYING Squadron 42 is a MAJOR milestone. This is actually a meaningful sign of progress IMO. That alone was the most important thing done a CITCON ever. For the first time, there is (seemingly) a possible final product on the horizon.
@@splitloopgaming3523yeah, people like you were saying 4.0 would never come. Now it's in testing. You guys always move your goalposts. Heck, I remember when the "scam" was that 3.0 was never coming, that we would "never land on a planet." CIG was supposed to close it's doors and Chris Roberts was supposed to run off with all of the money, 8 years ago!
Yeah and it crashed twice to prove it’s real lol I’m excited for it and excited for everything the game has to offer, i can’t think of a game that is doing what star citizen is doing and tbh there are AAA titles released that costs more, has less to offer, is way more buggy and most likely been in development the same amount of time, so I’m excited for this game SQ42 and the PU I’m here for it, high five ✋ peeps
I remember when they promised 100 star systems and now they are aiming for just five. And I totally understand that. 100 was always way too ambitious and the writing was always on the wall. Just the fact that we'll have some 20 planets with unknown amount of moons to play on is actually a lot if they fill all that with lots of well enough made content. On the other hand I look more forward to Squadron 42 than Star Citizen but the irony of "Squadron 42 is feature complete and we are now entering polishing phase" is not lost on me considering they are aiming for 2026 release date. Given how poor they are with release dates, I wouldn't be surprised if they delayed it even further or conversely I wouldn't be surprised when they suddenly declare "Okay, we have polished it enough" before that and just surprise release it. I doubt the latter thoughgiven the history. I've been a backer since 2014 and at times have been very excited but for the past 5 years I have been very much "Wait and see" but lately the more I wait and the more I see, the more I like what I see.
Completely agree that it will be a long time until we see most of this stuff. But, I was happy about what they said about 1.0 in that I feel their head is in the right space. They addressed that they don't want the game to feel like just a bunch of features bolted together which, as much as I enjoy SC right now, it does sometimes feel that way. My biggest fear for SC wasn't the technical stuff. It was if all of this was going to amount to something fun. And I think their gameplay design for 1.0 is very promising.
I feel like i'm living in crazy town. Morph is excited for procedural generated locations and content. Yet complaints about it in Starfield? Then he talks about how the gameplay for squadrons 42 was "real" because it crashed even though they had "real" gameplay for when they jumped into Pyro about five years ago. Also not to be picky, but most of the game play for squadrons was filled with cut scenes. Then he mentions the sand worms. I don't think I need to abbreviate more upon that. I am not trying to say anyone shouldn't get excited. But the same thing happens over and over again with star citizen. People aren't happy a citizen con comes out. People get excited, then buy a lot of star citizens stuff. Then they get unhappy throughout the year, and then a citizen con happens again, and the process continues to repeat.
Yes you are crazy, you cant just talk about procedural as if its universal... some games just do it better and starfield doesnt do it well so the complaints are valid. Jumping into pyro is not comparable to a full 1 hour gameplay segment of a scripted campaign. The pyro jump wasnt scripted but rather a tech demonstration. Whats wrong with cutscenes? Whats wrong with sand worms? kinda nitpicky tbh. Why do you say people get unhappy? people just get bored and wait for something new to come out... that doesnt mean they are unhappy. And morph is a content creator so making a little bit controversial videos is good for engagement on youtube considering most people in the gaming sphere are very skeptical about star citizen. Theres nothing wrong with being critical about a game youre interested in, it just means you actually care.
Starfield's procedural generation system generated barren worlds, you can''t compare that to a system that actually generates content (if they manage to pull it off)
I'm honestly so ready for base building. I want to build my own lil outpost to live and work out of. Might group up with a few friends to build and create stuff for new players, like cheap starter ships to help out those that just wanna enjoy SC.
CIG is having major issues and trying hard to stop the bleeding. These vague dates mean nothing. I guarantee they will not make the 2026 date for SQ42.
I loved the crafting reveal and how it looks to be modeled after the Star Wars Galaxies crafting model. It was, by far, the best crafting system i any of the multiple MMos I have played through the two and a half decades of gaming. If they can pull all of the things off that they showed at citizencon, this will be one of the best games ever. Hope they can do it before I get too old to play, lol. You gonna be an architect in game?
I'm pretty sure base building in some form is within a year because the Pioneer was in the next year's ships teaser and John Crewe said it's not coming with base building initially
with 5 star systems they can really focus on making each moon/planet be decorated with interesting little things that can be discovered for YEARS to come. Like, even with a population as big as WoW there's no way the playerbase will be able to discover every nook and cranny and secret of a moon/planet for a LONG time. Space is fucking massive.
Going the EVE route is definitely how I always hoped it would be. Glad to see the Bengal is no longer just a one-off thing that orgs will fight over, but something that can be build at scale for large orgs.
@cmdrls212 EVE didn't have interiors period, that's part of what sets SC apart. I'm not saying SC has to go full EVE, but taking what worked for large scale player engagement and working it into SC is the right direction, I think.
@@cmdrls212 To be fair, that was a fundamental problem of triangle counts with the game engine. It's not like the devs are incompetent, they just have a limitation that needs worked around.

Can't wait for "An architect reviews starchitect"
I LOVED the whole end game plan, crafting, industry and reputation... it showed us that Star Citizen will cater for long term playability, sustained interest and progression and overall longevity. This is what I was hoping for. Yes, it is, as always only a plan, but it was a plan that the community desperately needed. These were very positive points from CitCon and I'm happy to wait, if it's all worth it. We've waited long enough, what's a few more years, lol. Good stuff😆
I honestly wish they'd sat down and thought about this 5 years ago, but well, better late than never I suppose. Hope it's not *too* late.

@@TheFakeGooberGoblin there's just one problem with your analysis, they closed the Austin studio... Why do you think they did that?
@@HoneyTwee "I thought the whole point of server meshing is that they can replace NPCs with players?"
They have never said this.

The thing about base building arriving, at least as I understand it, is as follows:
They said that base-building will launch in-game before the Pioneer is flyable.
However the Pioneer is on the 'next 12 months' teaser from the ship panel.
So it seems they expect to have the initial base building, maybe only small structures or up to large, within the next 12 months. Which is very exciting.

0:56 yoooo my boys the Medrunners!
I wish we could speed up the development. 1.0 still seems 10 years away, and they did not even mention NPC’s and blades which is very concerning.
The game is clearly coming guys. 2020never it's almost there this time.
I looked at those space stations as “looks nice but I’ll never get to experience that”
Honestly the way they talked about the impermanence of structures and bases, having to defend them and so on, it feels a solo player may have no chance of participating in base building either. Not without paying protection money to racketeering orgs. If it goes Eve's route as a radical free market, there's no way you could keep a profitable base alone without it getting on someone's radar.

as long as solo gameplay is still a viable option

Thank you for all your hard work and the coverage Morphologis!
This game is the quintessential lesson in Scope Creep and how it can negatively effect the completion timeline of a project!
This comment is the quintessential lesson in ignorance, and how not bothering to do any research can lead to an ignorant (stupid) comment.
@@mattvmalone You know all research literally points to the comment being true lol the amount of broadening the scope is the reason this game will not be until at least 2030
@@DannyDovahkiin YOUR research 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I saw you in the front watching it live! I immediately recognized you and went "ayee, that's Morphologis!"
The "con" part is accurate
My son was just born 8 months ago. I hope to play this with him in about 10 years.
Yeah... We know how things go with SC, don't we? But I'm serious. Lol.
i cant even explain how hyped i am for all of this even tho its gonna take ages to do
I tried Star Citizen years ago - was impressed but had so much lag that I never got far. Will try again seeing that improvements have been made.
All very awesome. Can’t wait for it to be implemented in the next couple years. As for right now, I can’t even run the game without a 30k happening
tier-0 versions implemented over the next couple of years, then 2-3 years of upgrading to final versions and balancing (and getting all 5 systems in and finalized (in terms of planet tech/POIs)), then 1-2 years of optimizing and polish and more balancing and testing the crafted story missions (basically the beta period), then release in 2030 (optimistic). Assuming all the tech integrates together nicely.
I could be wrong though. If the S42 devs are really speeding up the development of SC then I could see things moving a little quicker, but that means more bugs faster too.
@@kevinscales very optimistic
I just like to pop in to see the ships and maps they design. They make awesome assets, but other than that I still have no faith that they'll ever release a game.
Release a game? They released multiple iterations of Star Citizen PU for years. Granted it's early development lol
If you are on the fence about making it to an event: you can get ships in game but these events really highlight the lightning in the bottle that Star Citizen is.
Have they fixed the npc's yet? I couldn't take the gane seriously before.
Not in the least bit.
Morph without base was a curve ball I didnt see coming. holy. Good Soup ;)
Props for being able to say starchitect with a straight face. I'm pretty pun-ishing, but even that one had me groaning.
My favorite part of Star Citizen is that asking “when?” is now akin to asking someone’s weight. If the devs don’t attack you, the superbetafans will.
Yep. Endless feature creep fueled by whatever is popular in gaming at any given time.

This guy gets it.
@@disky01 At least more worthy than the greybox and pre-poduction for SC
It took Cyberpunk 2077 THREE years of post-release patches to bring it up to performance par of what it should have been at release, and Cyberpunk 2077 is nowhere near as big as Squadron42. And they deliveried most of everything from last year's CitCon minus Maelstrom. The other stuff is either in 3.24.2 or in 4.0, which is in Evocati.
I've been following Star Citizen off and on since 2016 when I pledged for S42. The Squadron 42 into was really, really impressive. It looks great, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I can only hope that it's actually within reach this time.
yeah knowing the lore around the vega system and seeing it being played out was quite amazing and immersive
Best moment for me was when CR reconfirmed VR in the last minute of CitCon🥳
What an amazing event! I had a great time with great people.
Day one was by far the best this year, really excited to see the content in the game the next few months and so on
Genesis was cool, just need more alien looking planets. They definitely sped up with building content to fill the world, buildings, stations, etc.
I cant imagine the amount of storage space the game is going to demand if it reach 1.0
We’ll see how they do in execution.
i have a feeling SC will look like an old minecraft server after a few years. How will they deal with bases all over the place?
Great summary!
Most of the articles are uninformed bullshit for clickbait.
You should never take it seriously.
development IS suffering.
CIG has some incredible ideas for an amazing game. But it looks like it will need another 5+ years to even get to half of those features.
@@Sorien787God speed friend, build that dream game for us
is good to base some of the systems on eves ones, they have been perfecting them for many years so its a good place to start. really excited for everything we saw next 18 months or so are going to be good ones.
@artuno1207 good point. That's how you end up with a starfield
Thank you Morphologist for this honest review ❤
Make your own org a get a band of loyal minions to your construct your space station for you lol
Them actually showing someone PLAYING Squadron 42 is a MAJOR milestone. This is actually a meaningful sign of progress IMO. That alone was the most important thing done a CITCON ever. For the first time, there is (seemingly) a possible final product on the horizon.
Theyve shown it before. Regardless, the PU is fucked and will never see 1.0 even if a janky sq42 releases
@@splitloopgaming3523yeah, people like you were saying 4.0 would never come. Now it's in testing. You guys always move your goalposts.
Any Time Soon TM
A couple decades of waiting here and there
I remember when they promised 100 star systems and now they are aiming for just five.
Once you spend enough to become evocati, CIG becomes like a toxic ex girlfriend.
for some reason this years citizen con has got me more bummed about the game than before. I feel like its that way for a lot of people
Starfield's procedural generation system generated barren worlds, you can''t compare that to a system that actually generates content (if they manage to pull it off)

I can't wait to hear what you think about the base building aspects.
with 5 star systems they can really focus on making each moon/planet be decorated with interesting little things that can be discovered for YEARS to come. Like, even with a population as big as WoW there's no way the playerbase will be able to discover every nook and cranny and secret of a moon/planet for a LONG time. Space is fucking massive.
Can't wait to see ARMCO'S Org base!!
Going the EVE route is definitely how I always hoped it would be. Glad to see the Bengal is no longer just a one-off thing that orgs will fight over, but something that can be build at scale for large orgs.
It will be nice watching orgs get pilots together and escort mining vessels to gather materials needed to build their mega ships.
eve with 5 systems and a ship so big they can't even render an interior for it lol
@cmdrls212 EVE didn't have interiors period, that's part of what sets SC apart. I'm not saying SC has to go full EVE, but taking what worked for large scale player engagement and working it into SC is the right direction, I think.
@@TheMohawkNinja they can't even render the bengal's interior lol.
@@cmdrls212 To be fair, that was a fundamental problem of triangle counts with the game engine. It's not like the devs are incompetent, they just have a limitation that needs worked around.
