    Some channels dwell on shooting way too much ... to the point of excess. I like your reviews because you go into the technical aspects of the guns and their design and construction. I had long ago decided that my AR15 would be a Colt because, well, Colt, the name pretty much said it all. It is sad that Colt has rested on their laurels and their government contract. They could have been turning out improved weapons all along.

      @boomerisadog3899 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Colt is one of the most mismanaged firearms companies to date. They could've been one of if not the best, especially in ar's. Instead they chose to ignore the civilian market almost completely and not even try to improve their military weapons. When their government contract runs out they'll probably go the way of Winchester and so many others.

    Same laziness caused the same problems at IzhMash: lack of new products, lack of care to update existing lineup until told by government. Combined with ama. Russian government essentially let it go bankrupt and then bought it out, then gave them a kick in the ass, with results being AK-12 and related lineup, MA-17 SBR, SVCh DMR, SR-1 balanced gas system sports carbine, update kit for AKs.
    Colt needs the same. Sometimes the private ownership isn't necessarily a superior thing for design and innovation. What's needed is the will of the high-ups, and in that case, it doesn't matter whether something is private or state owned.

The LE 6944 is the most accurate and its not too heavy. Colt needs to step their game up though to stay in business, BCM, DD, and Midwest Industries are far ahead of them now.

    In the book (The Black Rifle) by Blake Stevens and Edward Ezell it states on page 201 the new buffer designed by Colt's engineer Foster Stuvevannt (being almost 3 times heavier than the Edge Water buffer) the effect of the buffer's added weight on the rifles dwell time was negligible..Does this mean adding buffer weight is not as effective or even desirable to the effect of dwell time as the barrel cam lock groove modified as Carl Lewis did with his enhanced bolt carrier? If buffer weight effects dwell time so well, why not just use heavier buffers instead of changing the cam track in the bolt carrier?? I always believed the heavier buffers effected carrier velocity and prevented bolt bounce but did not effect dwell time..I would appreciate your thoughts on this subject...

    • @SmallArmsSolutions

      The weights prevented carrier bounce due to higher cyclic rate with the use of ball powder

    Has COLT ever designed a successful semi-auto themselves? The 1911 was designed by John Browning, and the M16/M4/AR family of rifles were designed by Stoner. They had a few semiautomatic pistols in the 1980s or 1990s that were failures.

I’ve gone the ACOG route & it’s also a superb optic, THE best IMO. You mentioned the Colt’s BCG as a weak link for the platform which DOES raise a concern, is that ‘to be expected’ with a HIGH ROUND COUNT? For what it’s worth, this Colt doesn’t/won’t see a “lot” of use generally speaking, it’s more in a DMR role.

      @@SmallArmsSolutions I believe we are talking about 2 separate qr codes. I know the one you're talking about is on the current production m4a1 carbines. They also put them on CR-prefix guns now. The one I am asking about is above the safety/fire selector, which was utilized right before the LE to CR prefix transition. Asking, because I have an LE-prefixed LE6944 with the QR code there and am wondering if it is possible to get the LE6944 without the QR code. Do you know what year/how early on they began making the LE6944?

      Thats the manufacturing code which tracks production, Ok. I know what you mean now. So far as I know every lower has that code on them not. This was new since prior to the receivers were not tracked til they were had the roll mark. That was well into production. This starts from the raw forging and carries it through the entire process till final anodize and assembly

    Can you advise on the Colt Monolithic uppers in the 10.5 and 11.5 I have seen with no bayonet lugs on them, and some photos of the same uppers had bayonet lugs attached, when did Colt start to remove them on these uppers, thanks!

    • @SmallArmsSolutions
      @SmallArmsSolutions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Traditionally, short barrels did not have bayonet lugs since they were useless. But I would guess they used whatever parts they have in hand. Military guns have a strict bill of materials. Commercial and LE, they do whatever they want.

    Are you aware of any type of handguard extensions for the 6940 series colts? Even if it's something that bolts on to the already existing handguards. I'm very much used to mounting my light in front of the iron sight. Just need like 2 inches worth of handguard on top.

    • @balong2000
      @balong2000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pressures aren’t high enough with 300 BLK to justify the enhanced carrier. It will actually work against the good function of the rifle for the same reason the military wouldn’t use it with 14.5” and 20” 5.56 guns. LMT does have a Standard BCG with the Enhanced Bolt. I run that in my 16” LMT 300BLK.

      @@Martinroot the IUR as it's name implies, the rail is part of the receiver. The SFW model has the simon sleave vs m4 cut out. Barrel removal requires a special tool vs the colt model can be removed with screws, but they pretty much accomplish the same thing In my opinion. I assume the IUR uses a CHF chrome barrel vs the button rifled chrone barrel. Those are the big differences but the concept is the same. They otherwise look identical and fulfil the same role.
