@@Chris_PerthWA Wondering the same myself. From the video it appears to be a 1" wide slot centered 2" from the bottom of the board (you can see the reading on Marie's combo square is 1.5" and 2.5" when she draws it).

    Marie-
Thanks for the recipe book/tablet holder design. I actually made a walnut face frame around mine and I am waiting for a template to inlay a ❤ in the middle of the maple. I thought it might make it a little cooler when it is empty.
Another idea I had was to install a small fit up clock where you have your hole in the handle, but most tablets show the digital time.
Hope you have a great holiday!

What got me to click on your video was seeing Montreal in the name. I grew up in N.D.G I absolutely love the cookbook stand and it's nice to see a woman doing this stuff. It gives me the inspiration to do it myself.

Could make that bread slicer more versatile by having a straight cut on one end and the mitre cut on the other end.

Great ideas. Thanks for all you do. I made the cookbook holder this week. Came out great. Used solid cherry for backing and maple for the stand. I did change one dimension from your plans. While the foot on the stand is sufficient for an iPad, it is not deep enough for my wife's thicker cookbooks. For example, her Betty Crocker cookbook is two inches thick. So I made the foot of the stand larger to accommodate people who cook old school style. Thanks again!

Every time I watch one of your videos where you include that flip top cabinet for your DeWalt planer, I smile. I built mine EXACTLY like you did yours (according to your build video) and it is the best shop accessory I have. Thank You!

I am so jealous of your shop and I can’t image how you could make anything in it and still have it so clean. Thanks for the gift ideas. The headline that caught my eye was about the laser purchase. I think if I had seen it before I bought my first laser I may have thought twice. Right now I’m at the stage where it is assemble but not yet vented and i’m procrastinating learning Lightburn. Here it is September and I have no idea where to start to stock up for Christmas sales.
As a fellow Canadian I had sticker shock as I was gathering up all the accessories and everything. Then there are the materials. I tried to place an order for some aluminum coloured sign blanks. I’m adding things to my cart that seemed to be reasonably priced and easy to engrave on the laser. The total was $280 which didn’t seem bad for the things I wanted. Sipping was free in the US but $183 to Canada. Then of course I needed to convert to US dollars so suddenly the price wasn’t so reasonable anymore.

One more tip that makes life so much easier. White vinegar removes glue residue. If you've wiped most of the glue off at the beginning, there shouldn't be much left. However, if you wipe the whole piece down with white vinegar, you'll see any residue left over. As you know, those residue marks show up like a beacon once you put the finish on, and then you're down to sanding off not only the finish, but the glue residue.
With white vinegar, all you have to do is dampen the spots, wait until it starts to become opaque (if it's thick) or simply scrub thin spots until the glue comes out. It will actually pull the residue out of your wood completely without raising the grain. For thick spots, you can easily scrape them off and then repeat to get rid of anything left in the wood.
Now, BE CAREFUL on joints. If you flood the joints with too much vinegar (some folks flood the whole thing, yikes), it could very easily take apart your joint since it will seep below the surface. Better to pat, let it sit, rub or scrape, and repeat until it's gone. I volunteer as a supervisor in a 50+ woodshop and we have a jug of white vinegar specifically for this purpose. Works great and saves a LOT of sanding as well as a lot of "Doh!" later.
