When I was young ,and had your energy. I squared hay like that on small 5 acre semi rural plots. The hay was free for the taking. I built 5 wagons 9ft wide 22 ft long. Everyone thought I was crazy but this allows you a six bale pattern like you said with plenty of support. 22' instead of 20' gives18" space to stack the last rick. I went up 4 rows @ 36 per layer. This gives you 144 then 5 pattern tie for 30 then 2 end to end layer for 24 then 1 on top for 12 . Total 210. You can go another layer of 6 for 246 but it was too hard for the guy stacking(me) and 210 weight wise is about the limit of the 11l-15 tires anyway. This top pattern load shed water well off the tarps as I would tarp the load and unload in the mornings while the dew was on and the loft was cool. I still have 1 of the wagons left I made it completely from metal out of rock screening panels. The ventilation worked really well for that little bit of mold you can get with hay left on a wagon. Heavy expanded metal woud work good and have the added benefit of not tying up precious barn space of keeping wooden wagons inside. Just a few thoughts from 30 yrs ago. Good times when I was young and thought I could conquer the world.😁

This video reminds me of when we made and stacked nothing but small bales on our farm. We used to pull an old Massey 20 baler behind a 1978 Ford 3600. Here in North Wales (UK) we pulled a sledge behind the baler and stack the bales in small piles in the field, then collect with a trailer a few days later. Great video!
I like how you use the smaller fords to bale. Saves money on fuel. God sure has blessed you with level fields. Up here in Vermont we have to be extra careful on the hills some times. We usually have to have about a 60 hp. On the Baler not for power but for Weight not to get pushed around on hills. Nice 1086. How are them on fuel ? I’m sure they can pull a house.
a 2 x 12 with about 1/3 of the board hanging over on each side of the wagon will give you the width you need, a friend did three of his wagons like this and it worked just fine for several years.
What I wouldve done in that situation, is start my stack on the wall or stack boundary furthest away from the wagon and stack the same way you stack your wagons. To each their own. Hope the down Ford was an easy fix. The 2+2 would've been interesting to see on that baler🤓. Have a good one

I love that you showed the trick on packing two bales into that small space, used it plenty myself. :D Ive always mowed the hay in a shed against walls or a haymow, I'm sure its tricky to make it stable or just not over do it on putting pressure on the outside walls from inside so they don't topple over. Do you start the bottom layer with the bale sides down so the strings stay good? Well it probably don't matter you got the nice blue stuff that doesn't disintegrate. Thanks for sharing.
Most likely... in dusty conditions schmutz can get into the tank past the vent... over time it can roll around on the bottom of the fuel tank and end up making "rat turds" (well they look like rat turds when you clean them out of the bottom of the fuel tank, particularly when they get stuck in the little opening to the fuel line shutoff petcock on the bottom of the fuel tank. I had that happen several times on the 2310. After about the third time in fairly short period of time, I did two things-- 1) got a couple five gallon pails and a filter funnel and dumped some diesel into the tank fast to rinse all the crap out of the bottom of the tank, letting it run down into a five gallon bucket to catch the diesel though some old sheet metal bent into V that fit under the tank... kept doing that til the fuel coming out of the tank was clean and no more "rat turds" rolling around on the bottom of the bucket. Second, my brother worked at Eagle Tractor Salvage at the time, and he picked up and bought a new fuel shutoff valve for the bottom of the tank that had a small bronze screen on it about 3/4 inch in diameter by about 2 inches tall, with a cap on the upper end. That way anything that MIGHT accumulate in the tank in the future doesn't slosh back and forth and drop into the shutoff valve, which only has a little about 1/8 hole going down past the needle valve into the fuel line to the filter. YEAH you SHOULD be having fuel dribbling freely from the tank down to and through the filter housing as you drain/bleed it, unless you turn off the fuel shutoff valve, or it's plugged with schmutz... Later! OL J R :)
It looks painful to me to see you handle those bales with plastic twine without any gloves. I still use sisal twine ( despite 2.5x of plastic) and wouldn't touch them without leather work gloves. One of your wagons has a pivoting front axle. I thought those went out with the horse & buggy days. My bales are shorter to always place 3 in a row on 8.5' wide wagons. No "cross pattern" stacking, just stacked up 3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2 across. Do you have 9.5L x 15 or 11L x 15 tires? I use the wider ones since I'm the one who's also riding on the wagon stacking in the field, and the better ride makes a difference to me.
Spent a lot of my youth "riding the wagon". I/we usually started the wagon stack at the rear in stair step layers. Getting full height at the rear by stepping up each higher row in front, and building out the full height as we got closer to the front of the trailer. I was getting nervous as you were "speeding up" pulling that train. I could just imagine the back trailer swinging back and forth dropping it's load on the road. Don't ask how I know. ;) Why are you stacking the hay on it's side. Never saw that ever in Kansas barns. Didn't see any wasps in the loft either.
Stacking on the side helps with air flow in the stack and it puts the weight on length of the hay instead of the cross section, ie, bales hold their shape better.
@@boehmfarm4276 granted we have an accumulator and a Bobcat with a grapple to pick up the bales with, but that doesn't prevent having to stack by hand. Theres always a space that won't fit 4 bales wide.

I just cut my final hay field of the year last night, glad to see your second cutting went well!
Cutting this late it worse than cutting in July with rain chances because it's just so hard to make it dry with short days.

I always stack on edge. I don't like barn stacking on the strings. The length of the grass carries the load that way.

Some square balers have a 'launching mechanism' which throws bales into a caged trailer!

I built that wagon on an anhydrous tank gear. It's magical on the road. The twine doesn't bother me. My callouses are very thick.

Be careful about getting the bales to close to the light bulbs in the barn, can cause a fire. Ask me how I know lol
