Marc Bolan is the Man!! I caught T.Rex in FLA. in 1972 during Spring Break. To see them live,is why so many artists (The Who) refer to them in the lyrics in their songs!Created a sound that did not happened since!
which they probably have by now since they might have more than one channel over there by this point. thank you, youtube, for preserving so MANY of these rare moments we may not have seen otherwise.
Marc Bolan is a fuckin legend,....its too bad hes not around to see how many millions of views his songs get......some of the best music EVER created. so groovy, just a wonderful vibe.....
Just look at Marc shine for all us to see ... and those people dancing, bless their hearts, still looking for that caliber of freedom .... I LOVE IT - purely good vibes
I bought Telegram Sam when it was first released - I was already a massive T.Rex fan - today I believe that Telegram Sam was the best value single ever released - on the A side you had Telegram Sam but on the B Side you had Cadilac and Baby Strange and they too could have been A Sides - totally Brilliant T.REX101
T.Rex performance is BBC Top of the Pops (which BBC has since wiped/erased) but this was shown on German TV show, as you can see, and we thankfully have the footage because of them. Classic, fun, great T.Rex song. :)
Best by far. Was 12 when this hit charts. Coincided with our first comprehensive school disco. We all loved it. I was in green trousers with red and white checked Ben Sherman. Those were the days..
It's a pity that their next release was Metal Guru, which probably wouldn't have got into the top 20 had it not been by T Rex. Bolan didn't put out another really good release until Twentieth Century Boy, but by then he was no longer flavour of the month.
One of my fav t-rex songs, still amazed every time by the excellent quality of this vid taken in the early mid 70s ..wow , very high def considering its age.
At 1:52. He sticks out his tongue super fast:) He was perfect. Every performance,no matter where, he was amazing to watch. Really listen and you can hear his voice. Every video I've seen where they're live, w/o pre-recorded track, they are perfection.
the guitar and drum parts might not be technical as in "they play lots of notes dead fast" but they're far better than anything satriani or vai or any of them have come up with, cos the melodies and general style of the song was new and brilliant and the songs are still being listened to and talked about 30 years later.
I don't remember 45s, I buy them and still play them. Support your local record stores and not necessarily the chains. Fix or update your music systems and turntables! I have all T. Rex singles and LPs - shame Marc Bolan didn't get props stateside except for Bang a Gong - great timeless music. Thank you for posting this dance classic, and am now going looking for Metal Guru on TH-cam as well. DAVEDJ
Me too. Each time i am in London i drive first to Queen´s Ride, where was the accident and than to Golder´s Green to visit his grave. Only the best die young.
Marc's biggest commercial success was the "Electric Warrior" album. It made the rest pale by comparison. He was planning a "comeback" album when he passed. I wonder. RIP Marc and Thank you.
Marc was clever by making his music short sweet and simple, the sound that his produce made for him , was the key to his success , unfortunately his ego and fear of changing his formula halted his career, I was so happy at the time that he took more chances with his last album , he would of gone on to be a big star again , if he had not died . Yet Marc told us he would die in a small car accident, I guess he got what he wanted . I am pleased to see his music is still out there rocking the world as it should .
Remember this so vividly. Went out to buy the single, it had sold out of the local record shop! Waiting a whole week to buy it was agony! Marc Bolan: a true British original.
I saw Marc with Steve as Tyrannosaurus Rex and again as T.Rex with Mickey, just as he "went electric", they were both great gigs, but unfortunately also saw T.Rex at Fairfield Halls Croydon at the start of "T.Rexstasy" complete with screaming girls - didn't enjoy that one so much! Lol! I've always loved Bolan (doncha just love the "Oh Baby!!" at the start of this?) but often wondered how things got so bad that the guitar solo in "Teenage Dream" got through Marcs "quality control" !
Keep a little Marc in your heart.
Back then there was a HUGE variety of music and T Rex was just one of them. I hear the radio today and it is so depressing with the likes of Adele singing such awful rubbish and a never ending line of female wannabees following suit.
It always amazes me how many people in the audience aren’t even paying attention to Marc - they’re just doing their own thing and not even looking at him. I wouldn’t have been able to take my eyes off him for a second.
These are my words you are writing Laurie. How could they dance and not looking at him. A little time later he had been gone and we will see him again in our lords space one day. Always brings me water into my eyes when he is acting. I have seen this show called disco in 1972 an from this moment on I was lost in Marc!
This was hugely popular in USSR back in 197x as a James Last's interpretation "08 - Телеграфист. (М.Болан)" from vynil "Мелодии и ритмы III (сторона 2)".
Look how this generation of kids groove with one another even with a rock demi-god a few feet away on a low stage. While today they stand and stare at a minimally talented person spinning records and pushing buttons.
the late great marc bolan.. my first idol, i did the lot, glitter, velvet jacket, i even had a perm! scoured the shops for a top hat but failed to find one.. happy days
Can not understand how 19 people do not like this? This is music at its best!!! Marc Bolan u rocked every show!!!! xxxx
I am starting to think that this is the best T.Rex single...sounds fantastic after all these years... and that great chorus!
Love Marc Bolan and T-Rex! Such a sad waste towards the end! RIP Marc!! xx
Timeless music that will still sound fantastic in another 50 years.
Those people in the crowd had no idea how lucky they were.
Telegram Sam
Was für ein geile Melodie
Zucker Zucker zum Tanzen❤
T.Rex - one of my favorite bands in my youth, will never forget them and i still listen to their music
T. Sam was my first T.Rex single, it made me a fan forever!
Marc Bolan is the Man!! I caught T.Rex in FLA. in 1972 during Spring Break. To see them live,is why so many artists (The Who) refer to them in the lyrics in their songs!Created a sound that did not happened since!
Thank you German TV for not wiping this excellent rare clip!
which they probably have by now since they might have more than one channel over there by this point. thank you, youtube, for preserving so MANY of these rare moments we may not have seen otherwise.
Marc Bolan is a fuckin legend,....its too bad hes not around to see how many millions of views his songs get......some of the best music EVER created. so groovy, just a wonderful vibe.....
I agree they dont have any good artists outthere anymore, this was real music.
Just look at Marc shine for all us to see ... and those people dancing, bless their hearts, still looking for that caliber of freedom .... I LOVE IT - purely good vibes

Wiped/erased why?
@wildcatter63 OK good reason. Thanks a lot
@HEY 4Q2 I understand, thanks. Invaluable material lost, not only on music of course
@HEY 4Q2 😎 ✌ great info! You are a hard fan of T.Rex I think.
Best by far. Was 12 when this hit charts. Coincided with our first comprehensive school disco. We all loved it. I was in green trousers with red and white checked Ben Sherman. Those were the days..
Time has only reinforced how cool T. Rex was and how ahead of it they really were...
truer now than 13 years ago
And more than a touch of the 1950s music
Very much so@@RockinJohnnyaitken a lot of his riffs are recycled from guitar slingers like Duane Eddy
Great stuff..their next single was always eagerly awaited...back in the day when that mattered. Stones grunge and swing with pop style..brilliant.
It's a pity that their next release was Metal Guru, which probably wouldn't have got into the top 20 had it not been by T Rex. Bolan didn't put out another really good release until Twentieth Century Boy, but by then he was no longer flavour of the month.

this band had a plethora of great songs
Live T-Rex - Marc Bolan lives on in videos. Love it!
Same beat as "Get It On". Still love Mr. Marc:)
Loved him in the 70's and still love him now...a bright star that flamed out too soon.
Me too. Each time i am in London i drive first to Queen´s Ride, where was the accident and than to Golder´s Green to visit his grave. Only the best die young.
Don't know wtf this song is about, but I've always loved it. RIP Marc
Sweet Baby Jesus Marc Bolan is beyond beautiful 😌🥰
Der vermeintlliche Unfall passierte 5 Jahre später ..leider .. RIP Marc
Love T-Rex. It is amazing that the dancers didn't through them off the beat. There are some contenderes for the "Elaine" dancing award there.
Behind the glitter, genius at work. Thanks Marc.

Fuckin love this stuff. Glam launched punk, punk launched grunge, all my fav's lead back to this

Marc Bolan you're my main man
I remember watching this on Top of the Pops like it was yesterday. I was big into Prog and Glam rock back in those days.
Marc was clever by making his music short sweet and simple, the sound that his produce made for him , was the key to his success , unfortunately his ego and fear of changing his formula halted his career, I was so happy at the time that he took more chances with his last album , he would of gone on to be a big star again , if he had not died . Who's listening to this AWESOME music in 2022. I am and lovin it.
Remember this so vividly. Went out to buy the single, it had sold out of the local record shop! Waiting a whole week to buy it was agony! Marc Bolan: a true British original.
Song starts at 0:33 , I’m going to play this on my community radio show :)
T.Rex best visual band of the 70s great songs good look pow RIP marc
Top half of Alice Cooper's head for the first 30 second's! 😂😂😂

Germans did never understand this kind of great music. Terrible country! But I’ve always loved Marc Bolan and very fine music! ❤ jon fisher
this is the first time I heard from T. Rex and that was a pretty cool song!
ADORO!
Marc Bolan, the Dr. Seuss of rock and roll!
I loved Marc Bolan; I just wished there was a full sized version, not just the bobble-head.
Awesome song
one of the all time classics,
ride on
Long live marc bolan :(..great song ;)
Wow. I don't even care for T-Rex a whole lot, but this is way, way better than the Bauhaus cover.
2:13 What's with the spin? Haha!
Keep a little Marc in your heart.
Brilliant! Timeless!

Tio Sam,socorro!!!!!!
Marc, you are my MAIN MAN!!!
So cute! And such a performer.
It's funny - when I heard the Bauhaus version, I thought for sure it was a David Bowie cover. Never heard that T Rex did it. Awesome.
Performed in London at TOTP broadcast live via German T.V link up...amazing it has survived as the BBC wiped the original broadcast years ago.
Que buena banda!!!!
Wonderful - thanks for putting this up.
At least I grew up with music, Metal Guru , Hot Love, Jim Morrison was my 1st Album.
Absolutely brilliant better days then ! Look at the crowd young people all into Marc Bolan!
This song was great in 72,it's even better now!!!
Grew up in the 80's Miami . I want to parachute into the Beeb's studio here SSSoooo Bad!!! Classic "time capsule" moment !
its cool, love it!
