Great version of Can't Win. That song was the showstopper early in tour at the Great American Music Hall in SF. An amazing take that topped even this one. Still hoping it surfaces one day.
Malcolm Gladwell was right: the children of the working class get the message from their parents that.they are meant only to serve others. The children of the middle class (and presumably the upper class), on the other hand, are taught how to get ahead, how to play the game. This group expresses that problem well.
Richard Thompson is difficult to categorise and that is probably the reason why he doesn't have the God-like status of Clapton or Hendrix. But he should.
Well, still the best guitarist in the universe then.
My god - what a guitar player he is. Why isn't he world famous?
He is now...2022
You can't win.
@@peterconner1766 The nerve of some people!
@turtlens
I suppose you're right! He should be a huge star if there was any justice in the world!
Beautiful!

Saw him a few nights later in Brighton, awesome...thanks for post
Probably my favorite song of his--Across a Crowded Room?
Can't Win is extracted from the Amnesia (1988) album.

Always figured it was a reflection of a British upbringing in general and toxic femininity in particular as experienced by boys all over the world.
61 years young, is this awesome or not
@shankly4 He is world famous. He just isn't as well known as he should be.
awesome
What just happened here?!?

Joel on Fire
Kurt Vonnegut with tune. Herbert should have cut Bonny more slack.
Brilliant comment. I hate it when they extract cuts from albums...ruins the flow.
It's not a bootleg (???) so the arrogant and unfriendly goats at talkawhile can link to it??
