There is a small band of super-elite songwriters who sit above 99.9% of other elite songwriters. There is a small band of super-elite guitarists who sit above 99.9% of elite guitarists. For a mere mortal it would be enough being in just one of those super-elite groups, but to be in both is ridiculous. This is why I worship the man.
I had the pleasure of seeing RT and the band perform this at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh several years ago. RT is one of the few that can make a stratocaster sing, cry, wail, scream. I will never forget the sound bouncing off the Allegheny Towers.
As superb as he is solo acoustic, this is a demonstration of why I love to see him tour with a band. Especially when the band cooks like this one. Michael Jerome is a monster on this, Danny Thompson shines as always, and RT kills it.
Michael Jerome is the best drummer of his generation. The perfect foil to RT's guitar. This tour was just possibly the great full band offering of RT's career
Michael Jerome is killing it on drums. He's the perfect drummer for whatever Richard plays. Pete Zorn will be missed and I hope we see more of Danny Thompson touring. My favorite lineup since the Hands of Kindness days.
Nice bass solo by Danny Thompson about midway through. I really think Danny Thompson is an underrated bass player. He has a way of getting down and gritty with his upright double bass.
Gotta love Danny Thompson, the un-noticed lynchpin for so many songwriters down the years. His work with RT is fantastic, but I think he was even better with John Martyn.
This is the first time I have been able to see a visual version of this track live, so I thank you for this. Unfortunately the audio clearly doesn't do it justice, so here is the best version of 'Hard On Me', the second solo is utterly shattering on headphones. th-cam.com/video/_2LYEZeUcpY/w-d-xo.html
Weirdest thing about this video is how it seems to be stretched sideways...RT looks almost chunky in this video, when he's never been anything but rail-thin.
This has to be one of RT’s most searing, scorching songs of his vast catalog. The solos are absolutely electrifying.

Absolutely!
Love Mock Tudor, love this era of his music, what a kickass song. His voice is so goddamn strong.

And they call him a folkie ?!!! He is the greatest lead guitarist in history. In my humble opinion
Thanks for uploading the full version. Jesus, he's good.

awesome guitar playing-truly awesome-he is unbeatable
Wow!!! Love it.
Holy crap that's some wild stuff! RT - definitely one of the best.

Shredders take note, this is how you play guitar

Did Joe Boyd ever dream that Richard would ever play like this back in the day when he signed Fairport, just because he admired Richard's playing?
is this what they call "in the zone"?
Oh. My. Ghod...

Immense - monster second solo - wanted to see the crowds reaction at the finish - shame it finishes just before
That was the "Eddie van Who?" 12" remix...
First thumbs up after 11 years.
Man- that's ridiculous. But he always is.
Peerless.
