Thanks for the info. I had my gallbladder out in 2000, and fortunately, I never had a problem until this past year when I turned 76. Because I never had a problem, I just forgot that I didn't have my gallbladder, but now, I am dealing with digestive problems, so I will try your suggestions. Thanks for your service to the community.

I had my gallbladder out in the early 90s, when I was in my 20s. I’m now in my 50s, and I was about 100 lbs overweight. I found out I have a genetic disease (EDS) and was encouraged to work with a nutritionist to modify a keto diet to work for me. I have lost 70 lbs. My constipation issues are a bit better since I upped my water, vitamin C, natural fiber, and Licorice root. Walking is a must, too, even a short one after a meal. I’m not saying that you’re wrong, and your advice might work for some, but every body is unique and everyone needs to try things out, and work with someone who’s willing to go “off the textbook” to help find what works for one’s one-of-a-kind body. (I’ve been doing modified keto (more plant-based proteins helps a lot) for 1.5 years and I continually have to modify things. However, eating too many carbs is a real no-no for me. I eat a lot less processed foods and a lot more fruits and mostly veg. That, in and of itself, is probably the best change anyone can make. Refined sugar is in almost everything and we don’t even know it!

I haven’t had a gallbladder since 1999, I’ve done keto successfully and I feel better on it than not because of my insulin resistance, cravings etc.. BUT!!😂 I put lemon juice in almost every glass of water that I drink in a day, which I believe helps with digestion and keeping my bile flowing Lol 😂kind of like what ACV does.. I also make sure I eat plenty of green vegetables and good fats like avocado when I do keto.
I have started carb cycling lately with my period, and I feel great!! Doctor Beth is so awesome,😍 she helped me so much a year ago when I got my Dutch test! She set me up on a great path! My hormones were screwed up, I was estrogen dominant, PCOS, high cortisol, not sleeping etc.. just by focusing on our hormones, as women it could totally change any issues we have with our bodies❤
    Thanks again Dr Beth!!! ❤🙏🏼❤

Only hibiscus tea sweetened with the smallest amount of coconut palm sugar or water or an occasional homemade lemonade/limeade. My gut has been in turmoil ever since. I was told to eat FODMAP but even that is not really working. Your advice to eat a combo of protein, fat and carbs reminds me of the Med WOE. Hello Dr. Westie from our farm in Central ⛵⛵ Lakes Region New Hampshire. Good advice.- I had my gallbladder removed in October 2023. Fortunately my hospital. Shout out to New London Hospital in New London , NH. worked with me closely during my recovery. My gallbladder was in such a state, it tried to take out my pancreas and liver with it, including giving me a raging blood infection. 17 days in hospital. Discharge gave me a basic foods list of Do's and Don'ts, followed by my PCP ( same hospital) referring me to the hospital dietitian. Lynda was great! She put me on a modified Mediterranean diet, that omitted red meat, limited fats, no fried foods, no caffeine, which includes no chocolate and a host of other specific food advice. My fat budget is 40-50 grams a day. I can have white turkey/chicken, seafood/fish, tofu. Aged cheeses and lactose free-fat free dairy ok. No alcohol, etc. 11 months later this has worked! I like A.C.V as a drink or on a " steamed " salad. I substituted vegan breakfast strips instead of bacon, carob for chocolate and on and on. Lots of ferments, sauerkraut, kefir, yogurt, sourdough. Life is good :-)

I find that carbs are the worst. Especially pasta and bread are very hard to digest. I prefer a light rye bread. Beans are also very bad for no gallbladder. Also people with gallbladder issues or no gallbladder should avoid processed foods they're very bad for you. The best way to go is low carb with some fatty foods like meat but not as much meat as you would have on a keto diet but enough and you should stick to chicken breast and fish mostly. You can have some beef and pork but keep it to once a week. Make sure to get your iron and vitamin B12 checked out . As for fruits and vegetables you need to figure out which ones upset your tummy and stick with the ones that don't. It's a matter of figuring out what foods that hurt you and keep them out of your diet. For example: I can eat garlic but not onions, I can eat celery but I can't eat peas, no green beans, no corn plus I can eat fruit without the skin. For example apples cause heartburn, bananas do not, avocados are also good, I drink orange juice every day 1/2 cup three to 4 times a day. Ginger tea with lemon juice and a little sugar is good after a meal but don't make it too strong at first. Do not eat junk food like popcorn, chips, chocolat, and candy. What I buy for my sweet tooth is real licorice , ice cream but you need to go with the one without all the extra garbage in it. You can also make your own because they put so much junk in ice cream these days. If you drink milk, drink the fatty milk at least the 3.25% or more. Don't eat margarine eat butter and eat the one that is salted plus make sure the ingredients are only cream and salt. Country churned butter is better. Beware of fried foods. Frying is not the same as sauteeing and be careful with oils like canola, vegetable oils , palm oil, all oils are bad for you except real virgin coconut oil or olive oil but be careful which olive oil you buy, many are fake. You can lightly cook in butter. No pastries either, it's ok sometimes. Good luck ladies! Like I said " it's a matter of also figuring out what does and doesn't hurt your tummy" For heartburn us one cup of water with one teaspoon baking soda ( not baking powder) baking soda and you must sip it. You don't need to drink it all if you feel better after half the cup you can put it aside for later just in case but throw it out same night or day. If you drink it to fast you might get diarrhea. You also need to do your own research on bile salts, they're not for everyone. Sometimes just tweeking your diet does wonders.

Why don’t doctors give a gall bladder info sheet when being released at hospital after removal of GB? Or talk about the “after you go home” chat?
How hard would it be to suggest ASV /lemon / ginger/ honey drink - by a nurse? They are in there turning off IV alarms?
I never thought getting out my GB was a total cure, but 5 ER visits in 6 months? Level 8 pain!
They took my GB out THEN did an obstruction procedure next day!
I think they should have done the obstruction and left my gall bladder alone! Sent me home with ACV recipe, diet change and saved me all the agony of this life without a GB!
Very happy to share my comment so others will take your advice!
This is no quality of life.
You can read several comments and tell most patients doctors just don’t care. They have so many patient’s needs to listen to and just have RUN out the door!
Wake Up everyone! You are on your own to find and be proactive about your quality of life AFTER your GB is removed. If you don’t - you’ll be back in for duct obstruction procedures, liver disease, dehydration, shoulder/ back pain …….. Wake- Up!

3:00 YES! I just had emergency lap chole last week, and apparently I've had gallstones for months, nearly 7 months. I didn't know at first, because my first symptom was sharp pain on my right lower back, which then spread to the waist. I thought I was just having lower back pain from sitting too long (work). Every time the pain occurred, i got painkiller medication, the pain was gone; but then it would be recurring every month. But i always thought it was just low back pain. I had no idea that my illness was actually coming from my gallbladder. How would I know, the gallbladder is in the stomach area right? 😅 But then a specialist doctor finally told me to get my stomach area checked with ultra sound scan after I was in the ER asking for low back pain medication for the 4th time; he said there's no way a back pain could be recurring. So finally the ultrasound scan confirmed that i did have gallstones, not low back pain.

Hi Dr.Beth I had my gallbladder removed when I was 16 I'm 35 now, never had much trouble or I thought I didn't , sometimes I have acidic diarrhea, that I believe comes from bile malabsorption, it happens if I fast too long or after a first meal, after some research I believe SIBO can be the culprit, I tried digestive enzymes from Solgar that contain ox bile, but that also cause me diarrhea, not always. One of my concerns is the absorbtion of liposoluble vitamins, should I take it in liquid form to be absorbed better. Thank you

If you have diorrhea, try the pancreatic enzymes on their own without the ox bile.

What EVERYONE needs to be aware of after having their gallbladder removed, when I say follow a low-fat diet, FOLLOW A LOW-FAT diet. I ended up with fatty liver disease because my surgeon told me, after a few weeks, I would be able to eat like normal. LIE! When I found out I had a fatty liver, I almost broke down. I feared death was coming. It was at this point I started intermittent fasting, following a low-fat/low-carb regimen, along with exercise. I was able to reverse my fatty liver. Without your gallbladder, your normal life ends. Welcome to a brand new world. Change. Get used it. I have ACV every night around 11pm, daily. I have lost over 51+ lbs. since my fatty liver diagnosis. I NEVER want that to happen again. Good luck everyone.

My skin and scalp have also become very dry and itchy and feel anxious a lot. Have to see Consultant in three weeks. I had acid reflux before op as have a Hiatus Hernia but acid worse now, on Esomeprazole. Worry in case I end up with stomach ulcers or cancer because of increased acid. My mom did Keto for years without a gallbladder and unfortunately she became so low in vitamine B12 because she cant absorb the fats, she developed early dementia.

I dilute 2 tbsp in 16 ounces of water, you could do 24 if that sits better for you!

My question is, should I use ox bile? I am currently trying to conceive, and I want my gut health to be the best it can be so that I have the best chances as I have had trouble for the last six months.

I don't believe that bile salts are safe for pregnant women. Do your research.
