- Here I compare side-by side the japanese "Dragon Box" sets and the US funimation releases. The Dragon Box is on the left.
There are very noticeable differences in saturation and brightness, and in one or two cases even hue. I personally prefer the dragon box, but you take your pick. - บันเทิง

Yes they did. The endings are incorrect for seasons 1,4 and 5. The intros are incorrect for seasons 4 and 5.
@@Akchun21 Toei only licensed Funimation one clean opening and ending to use for their versions, so even if they took clean footage from another source, they wouldn't legally be allowed to use it.
Funimation looks more crop, but with more contrast and creditless opening
Funimation is overexposed, though. look at the background at 1:32 . Also, as for crop, the crop was done by me since I could only fit one 720x480 source in a 1280x720 space without doing any scaling. I gave the remaining space to the blue brick.

I prefer AB Vidéo's version, since it retained the film reel and the Japanese audio, compared to the Dragon Box's mono-channel audio.
AB Video used a Dragon Box upscale for the BD and the Japanese audio is sourced from internet.
@@ChaosGokuSSJ4Original Toei has refused to use the sourced from-tv audio and insisted on the sound on film before regrettably. Thanks for informing me that AB Video exists though.

What source did you use for the Dragon Box? I don't know if you remember, but if you took it from you're own rip I'd love a copy of it! That is assuming you still have it. The clips I find on YT for it tend to be really low quality.

The funimation ones look a little overexposed (blown out) to me. Also check out the color difference at 1:14 .

The funimation one also removes a little bit of the horizontal edges. I think it was to make it more like 4:3

@@illegalalien6542 in what manner? For all the flaws of the Dragon Box's release, the colours are far closer to what they're meant to be than Funimation's. Especially since the Blue Bricks get worse after the first "Season" or so.
@@illegalalien6542the picture is darker than it's meant to be, but the Funimation quality is still worse. The Blue Bricks are massively overexposed, meaning that very few of the colours are remotely accurate. You also accentuate the problem of crushed blacks.
While you didn't refer to specific detail regarding the plane, I wouldn't be surprised if it's detail in shaded areas you're referring to. They're less visible than they should be in the Dragon Boxes, but overexposing the image to compensate is far from an appropriate solution.
Frame rate is hard to judge on this sort of video, but they'd both run at the same rate on your TV in person.

So wait I'm confused what aspect ratio are the Dragon Boxes like what the hell are they 16:9 I always thought OG Dragonball was in 4:3 or is it a tiny bit wider than 4:3 or did you stretch it I can see the zoom on the Blue Bricks but seriously it looks way wider

Thinking back, I think that I remember the real reason why now. I think I cropped the funimation one so I could keep the native resolution or the dragon box version; that's all. It's the color and brightness/contrast that's important here.

Is this the 2009 blue box release? Or the 2003 Db releases?
2009, 99% certainty. They were checked out of a library, but they looked newish and I checked them out in 2012.
Dragon Boxes are better because it doesn't looked cropped and given us a karaoke lyrics to sing along with the song.
Actually the blu bricks arnt cropped the person whk made this video just did that so he could show the whole dragon box footage
IKAOS and SoM released a version that has both Japanese and English audio, with the Japanese audio including the original broadcast audio, and dragon box audio. English audio is funimation. It's quite easy to find if you know where to look

the left one. The right one is just what I had space left to cram in, so I think I cropped that one horizontally to fit.
Don't mind the dragonball blue bricks. The Orange bricks they suck, didn't batter buying on blu ray

0:55 Funimation's mastering is better imo. It's way easier to see all of the detail. Colors are less accurate, but I personally prefer crispness over color. I can use a color filter to make it look normal if need be, but there's only so much filtering that can be done to crispen video up. Pretty upset that there's only one opener and ending though.
@Mouayyed Alghulamy I'm agreeing with you. Funimation's better. I guess my phrasing isn't so clear so I'll change that.

Did you fuck with the aspect ratio on the Funimation footage or is it naively like that? If so then Jesus Christ, it's cropped to hell.
Funimation themselves cropped dragon ball and dragon ball z to 16:9 with their "remastered edition". It sucks!
I think i cropped the funimation one so i didn't have to downscale dragon box, since it was hard when i uploaded this to find any dragon box footage on YT and thought that would be the center of attention. I've caused a lot of confusion with that choice. :\

The color levels? Yeah, mostly, but since you're working from the same color depth that ends up actually removing details (which is why, in photography, setting the correct exposure before taking a photo is important, and why having a raw to work from is better than working from a jpeg).
The crop is something I think I did because i wanted to not do any resizing to fit a 720p box and my old machine that I encoded the video on was slow enough I didn't want to do 1080p.

If you like your skies being a single color instead of a nuanced gradient, and you don't mind purple outcroppings occasionally, sure. And I'm not sure what you mean by "crushed," since there's more nuance in the dragon box than in the funimation version, where everything's overexposed.
@@wyatt8740 I'm specifically talking about picture quality, not cropping. That's definitely an issue, but none of the Dragon Ball home media releases are remotely perfect.
And the sky isn't a nuanced gradient on the Dragon Box, it's a blurred mess. The gradiation is far cleaner on the Blue Bricks. Meanwhile most of the detail is easier to see on the Blue Bricks and the bizarre blue tint is gone too.
The Blue Bricks have pretty crushed blacks, you just can't tell so much with this opening. It's very apparent during actually dark scenes. The Dragon Boxes, while far from perfect, have much more accurate colours.
