Kudos to you for not ruining a warm coat that someone will undoubtedly need this winter! I’m all for recycling when possible, but I agree with your assessment. Thanks for sharing your process.

Yes, it just didn't seem right to remake something that has use 'just because'.

Very clever use of the jacket's zippers! I liked the extra seams because I thought they added interest. Great results with time constraints, too!

I totally respect your decision to not buy a warm coat that someone could use to get through the winter. I love the way you used the zippers so you didn't have to sew them in yourself. Clever!😊

Girlfriend, I’d now say you are a bag aficionado. Very cute project. Love the dark fabric you used. Perfect for when you have a dark outfit and just need something to hold your basics. You better apply when they start searching for contestants to film The Canadian Sewing Bee! You’d get my vote.

Well done, Janine! I didn’t try to stick to a set time, but no way could I achieve what you did in 3 hours! Love it! I got covered in fibres making mine too!

If you do this in 3 hours, you will be the first one I've seen that has accomplished that. So far the ones I have watched all went way over the three-hour limit

LOL - I should have set a stop watch. It was about 3:40 with lunch. Much faster than I normally work!

Great job Janine! I like that you decided not to use a coat that someone could use for warmth. A suit jacket was a perfect choice. I'm impressed that you gave yourself a timeline. It's a perfect size for carrying your purse and keys.

Such an interesting video, I really enjoyed seeing you making the bag, especially yhe thinking out loud. And such a sweet bag, it's lovely that you used so much of the jacket ❤

Thanks for taking us along on this challenge. I don’t think I would do very well under pressure (timing myself, even lol). Congratulations on creating a useful bag! I love this size for daily use and totally agree that your front diagonal pocket zipper is the bees knees! I wonder -on the tabbed ends -if you thought you might sew them together, putting the seam on the exterior and the extra uneven tabs faced inside the bag? I’ve seen ready made bags with that kind of treatment on the end of the zipper tucked inside, although you may like having the tabs outside of ease in zipping? Hmm. ❤Suzanne

You did a great job. I’m like you I think interfacing would give it some umph. Nice little cross body bag for shopping. I want to do a cross body bag and I’ll probably get things from the thrift store. I got a beautiful floral sheet from a thrift store and I’m thinking of doing a circle skirt.

Hi Janine. I liked seeing your prccess. The bag will undoubtedly be more comfortable to carry around being knit fabric, but I can see it was more challenging to work with. If you have any canvas scraps from other projects, you could measure the length of the side strip (bottom and two sides), then cut a hunk of canvas to that length and accordion-fold it to be multiple layers with each pleat the width of the bag side strip, stitch the layers together, and then put the entire stiff canvas spacer in the bag (maybe tack the ends to the bag), Antonia

This is a great idea! I don't have canvas but I do have some stiff stabiliser and maybe I could attach it somehow. Thank you so much!
