Hi. The symbol just means that it's designed and safe for food: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_contact_materials

Nicely done video . I have several of those canteens and have used them for a few years . That bottle can be found in clear blue plastic too . I have found the newer green cover to be a better fit allowing me to fit a lid ( Rothco steel with the oute edges hammered flat ) and a steel folding spoon in the internal water purifier tablet pocket .Still tight around the opening though . It has the poppers facing inwards , which makes a lot of sense in the undergrowth . I believe the Austrians use the pocket esbit burner with this kit if you want to be authentic !
The British Army NATO canteen also fits . A common mod is to fit the Austrian cup in place of the plastic cup in the British Crusader system .

Great video and another piece of gear on my want list. I have an Austrian Army bread bag in that camo pattern, it’s one of my favorites too.

The camouflage pattern was called kaz 57. The austrian army used this pattern for a short time. They had jackets, trousers, parkas, rucksacks, gaiters, caps, shelter and gear. The shelters were in two different camouflage pattern sides. One for mountain areas in like a kind of stone camouflage the other for wooden areas. But after a couple of years the austrians stopped to use this pattern because it was looking too close to the old ww 2 german Waffen SS pea dot pattern. This pattern is some times in use of the austrian mountain troops to narrative enemy troops. This camouflage is very effective in european wooden areas.

yeah international the blumentarn is very appreciated but austrian soldiers sometimes cold it "fleckerlteppichtarnung" fleckerlteppich is a carpet made of wool rests that are stitched togehter...in the end a new camo had to be developed and a military green onsly outfit das to be added...even today in the city austrian soldiers were only military green but no camo...they only use it in the woods :) very good film!

Hi John, nice video! Heeresverwaltung means army administration. The symbol on the snap looks like the Assmann & Söhne logo: a well known manufacturer of buttons, buckles, medals and badges of the Third Reich

I like it a lot so far. This was the second time putting it up. I left the other half at home for this trip. One was good for providing some shade for filming. I hope to spend the night in it soon and maybe make a ammo box stove for it if I continue to like it. The only bad thing compared to modern backpacking equipment is it's heavy. But I think because it is canvas it will keep me warmer than nylon tents or tarps. Thanks for your comment and for watching!

I've liked this set for a while and allways wonderd about it, you know if the bottle would fit inside the German canteen kit? they look very similar in size and shape, all the best for Christmas and new year

I was finally able to check and it does not fit. The Austrian one is much larger that the W. German canteen. Also the shape is way different too. So they are not compatible.

It's almost certainly polycarbonate, so yes... but if this is a concern, consider reading up on the BPA-Free story: it's one of the best greenwashes of modern times, and a good example of how an industry can turn disaster to its advantage through the magic of marketing. Bisphenol (BP) is essential in the manufacture of polycarbonate, and when the original research about leaching of BPA came out, manufacturers were hardly going to quit making this important plastic. Fortunately for them however, there are plenty of other Bisphenols to use instead: there's BPF, BPS... a whole alphabet of equally good alternatives. BPA just happens to be one of the cheapest. So... BPA Free? Sure. BP Free? Afraid not. Research has now shown about forty of these other BPs to be endocrine disruptors just like BPA. Moral of the story: don't mistake marketing for education. Worried? Go glass or stainless, and then do something about the carcinogens in the smoke from your campfire. Personally, I like old bottles like this Austrian one.... I reckon somebody else already drank most of the BPA in it... ;)
