great find .. i love these little flasks, i used to have one (black) in my jacket pocket just for when i was out walking my dog. I was told its designed to fit in a pocket on the combat smock.
neil castell you are correct about being designed for the jacket pocket. I failed to mention that in this video but I believe I did on my other older video with my other Swiss canteens. Thanks for watching and for commenting!
Cool canteens, great finds. It would be interesting to see how the Swiss soldiers used the old canteen cup without handles. You can’t go wrong with rice and beans. Me, I would have mix the rice and beans from the start. 😊
Monica Jones It’s like that here in Florida. Crazy weather. It also could be coming down by the bucket fulls but just wait 5 mins or so and the sun will be right back out. Thanks for everything and for helping out the channel. God bless you and your family!

I was able to get one of these canteen sets from our trip to Switzerland last year.for (believe it or not) only €3.00 but the cork was so rotten i had to find a replacement when i finally got home. Cup was stamped JE '72 and the canteen SIGG '74. Found it hard to drink from the cup at first coz the handles were placed in a different angle but i soon learned the trick. Go get a set if you can. Its a prime example of swiss ingenuity and durability. Thanks for the video john!😊👍
Ryan Victoria I saw same Swiss bread bags and my local surplus but someone had marked the outside of the bags with First Aid in permanent marker. I passed on them for that. But I agree they are well made and when cleaned up they are very nice looking.
@@John-Sherwood-W4JFS yeah thats okay you"ll be able to get one soon. I had to wait for a year before i finally got my german 3 pc canteen set. Thanks and Keep those videos coming john👍😊

Ahah! You found an older version without the handles on the cup! Yes, it's fairly rare to find a matching Swiss bottle and cup or the two parts of their mess kits, if one item/part wore out they just found another from any year that wasn't worn out and put them together, I don't think my small Swiss canteen kit or mess kit match up. Welcome back John!
JHAYKHAY25 hey! I think you changed your screen name. I recognized the profile picture or you have the same one as another person I know. I was lucky to get this set. It’s a nice addition to my collection. Thanks for watching another one and for your comment!

I've got 6 of these of various years but only one with the cup without the handles. Self reliance outfitters now sells a modern version called the PFM40 that are made of stainless steel. They are really great i bought two of them.they also sell a leather belt carrier for them! Now ican retire my swiss canteens!
birdie399 you are right. As of writing this, today the high is 90 with high humidity. I wish it would just cool off. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Thanks for sharing. I really think your burner was a tad over filled. Trangia said to fill just 3/4 for max. If it was to get too hot it could spew fuel out or make a two foot flame if filled to top of burner. Too many stories of fires caused by overfilled alcohol burners.
Scoutforlife Thanks for stopping by! I have the oval one too. I didn’t know the cup would fit in the US canteen cup. You learn something new everyday! Thanks for watching and for your comment.
the "kind of cup or something" you saw in the marking is actually a crossbow, the symbol of the swiss army... you must have a really nice collection of vintage equipment!
puma thanks for the info on the piece. I do have a nice collection. And it’s much, much larger than my wife wants me to have! Lol. Thanks for watching another video!

don't know if you're aware or not but the brand Kopika also produces coffee and cappuccino hard candy
How do you clean your canteens? I don’t drink out of mine because I’m afraid I didn’t clean them good enough
Does the coating in these canteens prevent that messy buildup that happens in aluminum canteens?
