Yeah Spider-Girl was exactly what came to mind when I found out what this series is about. This is definitely just an inferior version of that series but with big names attached to it.
I much prefer the ones where Avengers are still a thing, but they're *really effing weird* - like "Ultron Forever", where Jessica Jones and Luke Cage's daughter Danielle was Captain America. Good stuff, I like that a lot more than people somehow just forgetting this legacy their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. left behind.
@@jaquanbrown413 that reminds me of the Marvel Knights 2099 collection, if you see it in the wild as a used/second-hand copy pick it up. It's not an essential classic like Bride of Ultron or Avengers Forever, but it is pretty awesome.

Why is Aunt May such a silent enabler? Why is she just giving out Spider-Suits like she didn't fear Spider-Man and being Spider-Man didn't ruin her nephew? When are Kitty Pryde and Hellion going to show up at Aunt May's front door like "We're here for the new mutant?" When did Ben put on the webshooters? Why does Peter never name his alternate timeline kids anything other than Ben and May? Why DOES Peter have a hookhand instead of some cool prosthetic cyber hand? Bucky, Thor, Coulson AND Misty Knight got one! But, no no. Peter has a hook like a pauper that's never won a Pulitzer!

Why do people let J.J. Abrams still do...anything? What has he made that could even pass as "good" for a long time now? Please tell me this is cancelled by now. I'm sure this didn't piss off every single comic artist & writer ever that Abrams' kid just got handed this along with a big paycheck. But they sure proved all those naysayers wrong with all this fantastic writing! 😏 There's so many guns on the wall in just these first 2 issues, Chekhov could shoot every character presented.

I’m late to the party but this “JJ Abrams Spider-Man being praised” is news to me. I heard it was bad but, I hadn’t seen it for myself until now and.. I’m not into it. lol
Henry Abrams said that the more you read spider-man the LESS you understand him? What? I'm sorry but that makes me seriously question whether Henry has any reading comprehension skills. At the very least it make me question whether he should be writing Spider-Man given that he basically just ADMITTED that he doesn't understand the character.
Haven't seen the video, I will when I finish writing, but I really wanted to say this... Spider-man's son is not a Mary Sue, he's a Mary J A N E... I'm sorry
I'd love it if you'd do a video explaining the term Mary Sue. I sorta-kinda get it, and I've gone out looking for explanations of it, but it's used so many different ways by different people that I could never quite wrap my head around it.
Mayday Parker is the first and best child of Peter Parker. I hate how Marvel seems to ignore the MC2. It honestly is more interesting than Earth-65 (Spider-Gwen's universe). In general, Mayday is WAY more interesting than Gwen, Anya and Silk. Miles is more redeemable (thanks to the PS4 game and Into the Spider-Verse, not saying comic Miles is bad, just the former two made me like him more). Annie from Renew Your Vows is fine I suppose (though her and Mayday having their own comic and seeing each other as close sisters would be great. Seriously, these two could go on an adventure and I would love it). So yeah, I think the only good children of Peter Parker and Mary Jane are Mayday and Annie.
Okay so I'm living my comic life vicariously through TH-cam right now so is Ben having the web shooters explained? Like, where he got them? Did Aunt May just have them and some web cartridges lying around or did they cop out and make them organic? The line from Abrams about "the less you understand him" sounds like either what you would say to deflect criticism about your characterization of Spider-Man or just the same style of intentionally vague nonsense that his dad uses in his scripts. *Mysterious things are mysterious* On an unrelated note, is it just me or does Peter in that last panel you showed look exactly like Keanu Reeves? Like, down to the wardrobe and everything. It looks like the artist literally copied it from a "Sad Keanu" meme.
I can't think of good enough, funny, but not toxic comment about this book except that it seems to trying to be the All Star Batman and Robin of the Spiderverse. Ben will probably tell Peter that "I'm the godd@#n Spiderman." Followed quickly with "Sorry for Cursing Aunt Mae." Got to say, I love your channel(s) and Yes to the Mary Sue topic!
I know this a bit of an older video, but based on your comment about world building only mattering if it comes into the plot I would argue the opposite. Any world building that makes you want to know more is good. Things should be in the world that just are that the characters know, but a reader doesn't fully understand. Example the clone wars mentioned in Star Wars a New Hope.
1. Subtle: The way the Spiderman mask is framed by the blue flames when she's sitting on his shoulders is like "Yeah, Spidey sense, because teen angst rubbing on the back of my neck makes me tingle in my ...Spidey sense." 2. His antediluvian only living relative just told him his dad is Spiderman, and there's a girl wearing nothing but spandex and a disposable painting mask rubbing on him, "Yup, my dad is Spiderman. Want to see me shoot some ...webbing?" 3. Not entirely breaking the suspense of belief that a boy who's grown up in the very house where Peter Parker became Spiderman, in a world where Spiderman is very real, and born with Spidey genes just waiting for him to be angsty-teen enough to beieve he might really be different instead of just normal, samey, angsty-teen different, might have grown accustomed to some of the powers he inherited. Much like how he was born a ginger, it's wouldn't be ike how Peter Parker just woke up the morning after being bitten by a radioactive spider to find his room covered in WAY more sticky white stuff than usual. Entirely possible Aunt May have him "the talk" that embarrassed young boys usually take to mean "don't cum on the good towels or leave pubes on the toilet seat, and we won't have a problem," and just added "waking up stuck to the ceiling after a sexy dream," to that. Mary Sue was an unambiguous expert at anything and everything Captain Kirk asked her to do, because there's nothing more atractive to a xenophile redshirt slaying starship captain than a medic that learned kungfu twice as fast than Neo, and with half the plot points and the infinite ability of a sad, lonely star treck fanfic author to miraculously retcon a flashback to some time spent hiking up the mountain steps to Kunlun where she probably trained with the Iron Fist himself. No spawn of Peter Parker would ever have to spontaneously expand his resume to include the possibility that he might just have been aware of and pubescently embarrassed about anything weird that would make him stand out and be mocked by his peers. Not buying the Gary Sue schtick. I think you're just jealous that you can't get overexcited on your first date and accidently spaghetti her to a rooftop. 4. Did you say, "Rushed, juvenile, amaturish, disaster authored by J.J. Abrams...and son?" No. Fucking. Way. *dripping with enough sarcasm to make Jaden Smith blush*
Still finding this story derivative. What I think everyone (me included) thought that was that judging by the cover from the first issue was that this was going to be a Spider-Man and Marry Jane team up about stopping the deadly mysterious robot menace. I think that would have been enough to get readers onboard.
Older video but just found it...yikes. spot on in your review. Yep, bit of a Mary Sue going on. Bland character? Check. Excused and never critized? Check. Bizarrely loved by everyone at a ridiculously accelerated rate...complete with awkward "love" interest? Blech. Even removing the Mary Sue term, debated as it is, this book is not written well. Reads like a generic shounen or something, with bland ass protagonist self insert
Wow, didn't know this storyline existed, cool, sad that Mary Jane is dead, Peter gave up yet it's kinda cool to see that they have a kid and he's so like his dad as a hero ☺ cool , cool video.
I don't care if it's your sick voice or not, I do enjoy listening to you. It looks like everyone wants a Mary Sue video from you... don't forget to explain how a Mary Sue is different from a proxy/self-insert. You're going to crush it.
5:35 Well... if it's not in the contract of anyone they'd usually have on staff, they're gonna have to hire out. So they're creating jobs for lower income people in a way there.
I *so* agree about the word Mary Sue being co-opted and misused! While it's clear that the term is disproportionately thrown at female characters, that doesn't mean it's inherently sexist. If anything, I dislike the term Gary Stu because it lowkey implies that male Mary Sues are the exception.
If I had to be honest I feel like if peter had a son he would love to be spider man, like when Pete was 15, but I don’t think peter would leave his son considering he was the same way,so I feel like peters son could literally be like maydays twin
if you want a take on the next spider-man watch into the spiderverse miles isn't confident with the wed shooters by the end of the movie and is much more realistic (aside from ittsv looking like an old comic)

With this series I more and more get the feeling, that this mini-series is supposed to lead into something? Like the whole tidbits of world-building are probably nothing that can be covered within the last three issues. (Except maybe Cadaverous is all of the Avengers or something like that lol) Then there's the fact that these issues are called Bloodlines Part XX, like what's the point if there's only five issues xD And also at the end of the issue they asked for reader comments/feedback they intend to print in an upcoming issue. Like, I might be wrong, but I consider this highly unusual, for what's supposed to only be a mini-series.
I'm a pretty smart guy. but sometimes when you talk I think, "She is so much smarter than me" and in all honesty its hot. your brain is hot. I'm not a zombie.
I"m going to go out on a limb and speculate that after MJ's death, Peter told Aunt May everything. That would explain why she wasn't freaked out when she found Ben on the ceiling and why she sent him up to the attic.

There's so many guns on the wall in just these first 2 issues, Chekhov could shoot every character presented.
Thank you Sasha, or should I say the Ridd........... Puzzler!!! Oh you missed your finisher,....... rocking the beat!...??? Of course it's derivative, hasn't Spidey covered every scenario by now? You have rightfully judged the situation of "celebrity" writers of over blown, but I guess it's necessary for the industry from time to time. I thought you were doing that 90'ds line in the eyebrow thing, but I see your cute super villain adjoining scar, sweet!!! PEACE dear sister, thank you for reviewing this story arc, superior work as always.
"thankfully there's a catastrophe" lmao how'd you know how 2020 was gonna turn out!!??
Yes, I would definitely love if you made a video that goes into detail about Mary Sue, as I have never heard that term used before.
Has anyone noticed that miles morales is missing
I love your 3 Smallville DVD sets sitting in the background. I love that show. its so good, and thats a hill I'm willing to die on.
I love this. How you call them out . I’m laughing so hard.
Spider-verse did it better, nuff said.
I love watching your vids, Sasha. Kudos on some quality TH-camr-ness
*Mysterious things are mysterious*
On an unrelated note, is it just me or does Peter in that last panel you showed look exactly like Keanu Reeves? Like, down to the wardrobe and everything. It looks like the artist literally copied it from a "Sad Keanu" meme.
Very glad for channels like yours, where I can sate my curiosity without wasting time nor money on these hack jobs. Thanks!
I need you to be the voice of Cadaverous forever.
Didnt know why I got recommended this, but I enjoyed it. Nice background video. Subscribed.
I can't think of good enough, funny, but not toxic comment about this book except that it seems to trying to be the All Star Batman and Robin of the Spiderverse. Ben will probably tell Peter that "I'm the godd@#n Spiderman." Followed quickly with "Sorry for Cursing Aunt Mae."
Got to say, I love your channel(s) and Yes to the Mary Sue topic!
I had the same reading of iris west's "we are the flash" of the flash tv show.
1. Subtle: The way the Spiderman mask is framed by the blue flames when she's sitting on his shoulders is like "Yeah, Spidey sense, because teen angst rubbing on the back of my neck makes me tingle in my ...Spidey sense."
2. His antediluvian only living relative just told him his dad is Spiderman, and there's a girl wearing nothing but spandex and a disposable painting mask rubbing on him, "Yup, my dad is Spiderman. Want to see me shoot some ...webbing?"
The burnt costume part of the story was a missed opportunity for Ben or May to make a brand new costume from scratch.
Still finding this story derivative. What I think everyone (me included) thought that was that judging by the cover from the first issue was that this was going to be a Spider-Man and Marry Jane team up about stopping the deadly mysterious robot menace.
I think that would have been enough to get readers onboard.
Thanks again You are such a pleasure to watch
Older video but just found it...yikes. spot on in your review.
Yep, bit of a Mary Sue going on. Bland character? Check. Excused and never critized? Check. Bizarrely loved by everyone at a ridiculously accelerated rate...complete with awkward "love" interest? Blech.
Even removing the Mary Sue term, debated as it is, this book is not written well. Reads like a generic shounen or something, with bland ass protagonist self insert
Ben Parker looks like a teenage version of Sir Kay from "The Sword in the Stone." 😅
Wow, didn't know this storyline existed, cool, sad that Mary Jane is dead, Peter gave up yet it's kinda cool to see that they have a kid and he's so like his dad as a hero ☺ cool , cool video.
Really hope Old Man Peter would put on the costume at least for one more time tho. Idk, I just lik seeing old heroes put the suit on one more time.
So hey Shannon, what's the story with your scar? It is pretty heroic looking.
Yes. I would like to hear your thoughts on the concept of the 'Mary Sue.' Just saying...
I don't care if it's your sick voice or not, I do enjoy listening to you. It looks like everyone wants a Mary Sue video from you... don't forget to explain how a Mary Sue is different from a proxy/self-insert. You're going to crush it.
You're not your
I miss the world of "Mayday" Parker, and J2, and the new Thunderstrike.
MC2, Renew Your Vows, Life Story, Arachnamorphosis. Peter has *two* kids in MC2
Fucking awesome. Sassy, informative, and funny. Sasha RULES! Even with a sick person voice.
5:35 Well... if it's not in the contract of anyone they'd usually have on staff, they're gonna have to hire out. So they're creating jobs for lower income people in a way there.
Sasha would consider covering anime as well! Love your uploads!!
I *so* agree about the word Mary Sue being co-opted and misused! While it's clear that the term is disproportionately thrown at female characters, that doesn't mean it's inherently sexist. If anything, I dislike the term Gary Stu because it lowkey implies that male Mary Sues are the exception.
If I had to be honest I feel like if peter had a son he would love to be spider man, like when Pete was 15, but I don’t think peter would leave his son considering he was the same way,so I feel like peters son could literally be like maydays twin
if you want a take on the next spider-man
watch into the spiderverse
miles isn't confident with the wed shooters by the end of the movie and is much more realistic (aside from ittsv looking like an old comic)
Well it's good to know that you read these' but i dont think you;ll go back to read pass comments. Look I enjoy your work. You put a lot of time and effort into your work and it shows. I love what do and i will continue watching all these videos....3rd weekend binge
With this series I more and more get the feeling, that this mini-series is supposed to lead into something? Like the whole tidbits of world-building are probably nothing that can be covered within the last three issues. (Except maybe Cadaverous is all of the Avengers or something like that lol)
Then there's the fact that these issues are called Bloodlines Part XX, like what's the point if there's only five issues xD
And also at the end of the issue they asked for reader comments/feedback they intend to print in an upcoming issue. Like, I might be wrong, but I consider this highly unusual, for what's supposed to only be a mini-series.
Let’s get into so Mary Sue talk! From StarTrek to Ben Parker!!!
Wesley Crusher my favourite Mary Sue!
Casually Comics Shut up Wesley!
Yes please... Mary Sue origin story
The man spider-junior saves from the rubble has got to be Greg Grunberg.
I would definitely love to hear about the Mary Sue history!!!
I'm a pretty smart guy. but sometimes when you talk I think, "She is so much smarter than me" and in all honesty its hot. your brain is hot. I'm not a zombie.
S. I. M. P
Zombie
Simp
What a simp... get a load of this guy
Pretty good video and well explained review
11:12 you have completed your sith training; here's a certificate.
Super cute even with the sick voice, hope you get better soon. Thanks for all the Geektastic content👍🏾
Benjy Parker had organic web swinger my favourite one
That guy he saved is Greg Grunberg. JJ loves him
Talk about Mary Sues!
I"m going to go out on a limb and speculate that after MJ's death, Peter told Aunt May everything. That would explain why she wasn't freaked out when she found Ben on the ceiling and why she sent him up to the attic.
I’m not sure about this comic or most of the new comics out there. There seems to be something missing...
I think the web swinging thing was some kind of inheritance mental wize.
Great video and am I the only person who didn’t know JJ abrams son is writing a Spider-Man comic?
A Sasha video adds joy to my day!
Also, my requisite 🐿 👧 request.
Thank you!
What is the Mary Sue thing you mentioned?
Sasha apologises for her "sick" voice, which just sounds pleasantly husky.
I think this comic probably exists in the same parallel universe as MCU Captain Marvel and Black Panther
I want to see that Mary Sue video!
It's this series ever ended? I think that the last issue a read was issue #3.
Shout-out to Sasha for coming in to work sick. Thanks for reading this so I don't have to.
I need these au fic recs. 😂
