I have they Idea to one day take the Stinger into Journey 2 togheter with a Poison Greatknife to give me shorter Intervals between the Buffs from Rot-Kindred and Mushroom Crown. It would from a pure Dex-Run and Arcane would be the Stat i fully invest in Journey2 to set the Scarlet and Poison proc as far apart as possible to make it far more likley that the Rot procs after the Poison-buff expired.
Finally! Greatn't sword.
Gold
lmao
1/4 Sword?
O Greater Will, deliver me from brain rot
Very good hahahaha
the best use for basic dagger is to put utility ash of war for it, example:
- Buff with Golden vow and shared order
- Quick / Bloodhound Step
- Projectile with glintstone pebble, phalanx, sacred blade, and beast roar
- Easy status effect with chilling/poison mist, frost stomp, and bloody slash
Yes! I had chilling mist on that thing for the fire giant and other things
I mean it's the First dagger. It's basically meant to be a utility item that's abundant because its in a lot of enemies loot pools but if you're going for a status build the great knife dagger that the monkey men drop will pretty much ALWAYS be a better pick because of the built in bleed
@@ShadowNemesis575the Great Knife doesn’t drop from the Demi-Human Chiefs, that’s the Bloodstained Dagger. Both do have bleed buildup.
One thing to add that kind of went unsaid in the pros and cons regarding critical damage:
Individual weapons have their own critical damage multiplier (i.e: two long swords with the same damage numbers, one with 100 crit and the other with 110, will have 10% crit damage difference between them) and daggers DO often have higher than normal multipliers, yes.... BUT ALSO
Different weapon classes have their own base crit multiplier for the class itself. A Dagger with 300 damage and 110 crit WILL DO more damage on a crit than a long sword with 300 damage and 110 crit. Daggers DO have the highest base crit multiplier it's their largest claim to fame, so to speak. They are followed in this by Thrusting Swords so if you want a crit-heavy tool that's slightly more versatile, something like the basic Rapier or the Rogier's Rapier are valid option (can confirm from recent personal experience, they pull in the numbers)
As an over-leveled fool, the Glintstone Khris is monstrous. For a tertiary weapon, I switch between the Khris for distance and the Wing of Astel for dealing with large enemies (dragons, etc) up close.
That damage on Blade of Calling is fucking insane.
It can hit but it feels like sunken cost because it's 100% holy damage and that damage gets negated pretty hard in endgame which is where you find this dagger. Doesn't make it dogshit but you will have an easier time using pretty much any other damage or projectile ash of war. Even if it will do good damage in early game.... it's early game so everything at +24/+9 will feel really good there and when you move into NG+ where you're more likely to use the dagger in early game that damage negation will just ramp up so it will feel even worse. I'm not here to shit on your dreams but if you're using your buffs correctly you can make a wet napkin kill the all the hardest bosses in the game.
Pretty sure the Wakizashi exists entirely for those of us who want to roleplay the legendary gigachad himself, Miyamoto Musashi, alleged to be the creator of a dual wielding sword style that he called "two heavens as one," (super badass name by the way, why doesn't anyone name things like this anymore) which used either two katana or a katana paired with an offhand wakizashi. He was also a super interesting philosopher, I'd highly recommend anyone to read about him, fascinating guy
Five Rings
or just play brave fencer musashi
He definately did not invent using two swords
@@taistelusammakko5088 he didn't invent using two swords, he supposedly invented a specific style of swordsmanship that uses two swords. Big difference, reading comprehension is important.
While I do really don't like the seemingly insane amount of ads on your wiki-style site, I do understand, that keeping the servers running costs money and nothing in the world is free (in Germany we have a saying: "Nothing in life is free. Not even death, it costs one's life"). I do very much appreciate the information available on you site and even more appreciate your TH-cam content. It's really, really nice imo.
just get adblock, ive never seen ads on fextra
Use Brave and no ads
He did it with Daggers! I'm hype for this, always wanted to play a Rogue in Elden Ring.
Yeay I was waiting for this. Thank you
Looking forward to seeing a new dagger build next!
Nice that we're getting updated content for the stuff on elden ring with the dlc coming up
The glinstone kris is a solid choice for a side-weapon, it looks amazing and the ash of war was broken in the early patches but now still do decent damage when conecting with the follow up attack...
Man, I love your videos. Can't wait for the DLC and the new content. Congrats on your great work!
This is insane. I JUST started a dagger playthrough, and was sad I didn't find your guide on it. And then HERE IT IS!
I was waiting for this vid for a while. Ty. It was all i ever wanted.
I tried doing a dagger only run, but gave up. My favorite uses are:
Buff stick with Golden Vow Aow
Misericorde w/ Glintblade Phalanx as a set-up for Ice Spear, big crit damage
Looking forward to a Dagger build!
Chin-qwah-day-ah, the italian dagger
I love the videos, but the way he says Cinquedea is only a little upsetting.
Poe-tay-toe!
@@TheDecree93boil em mash em put em in a stew
Cant wait for the fextra dagger build vids!!!
It’s coming! ❤
FINALLY IVE BEEN WAITING ON DAGGERS
I enjoy these videos so much. Keep doing what you’re doing!!!
Doing a playthrough of just daggers, I will say the weapon group is...rough to play with. I played with double great knives with high dex/faith/arc to utilize the dragon seal for blood and frenzy spells. It was a lot of fun, don't get me wrong! One of my favorite playthroughs because the great knife is a, well great knife when it comes to building status. It was ALSO however the most frustrating playthrough with missing attacks, low stagger potential, and the nerf to Power Stance status. Now I do NOT want to see the scourge of what P.S. status weapons brought come back EXCEPT for one exception: daggers. I believe daggers are fairly weak, and they definitely could use a buff of being able to keep the same build up of status on power stance. If you think I'm wrong, let me ask you to go try something for me first: Do power stance great knives with blood infusion and see how fast it takes to proc bleed. Now go use the raptor talons claws with occult or bleed infusion and tell me if that's faster!
To save you some time, the claws build it up immensely faster, have (ironically) more range and safer combos, and on top of that you only need to upgrade the one set of claws vs the TWO daggers!!! Daggers need a buff, if not all of them, then certainly MOST of them.
My recent favorite build is an int/crit build with glintblade falanx on the Misericorde and Carian Retaliation on a small shield. I prioritize parrying when I can, but for enemies that can't be parried, the stance damage on glintblade falanx carries the build.
Actually played something quite similar to this recently. But I was using a cold Rapier instead of the Misericorde (though later on I had a Lightning Misericorde I used as a backup in one or two fights, including Elden Beast). It was quite wild to play while alternating between a No Skill Medium Shield and a Golden Parry Small Shield on the fly as I always carried both. Made the build surprisingly dynamic. Glintblade Phalanx just never stopped surprising me until the end of the game. The playthrough went much smoother than I expected (though... y'know... Tiche is to blame for some of the late game there but ultimately, no Spirit Ash can carry you on their own if your own build isn't solid)
One thing that I love about the black blade is that it stacks with black knife tiche's black blade as well. Shes a fantastic summon who can damn near solo most bosses by herself. So I like to run the black knife with her to melt bosses.
Right now, I'm close to the end playing a mostly faith with some dex dagger plus incantation build using no spirit ashes. It is a challenge but a lot of fun to figure it out. One thing I have learned with bosses. As you have to be quite close dual welding to hit them, it takes a while to learn the proper distance. However, often I am inside the distance that many bosses need to hit my character which is a plus.
Black knife is a really good utility in late ng+ cycles especially when stacked with the black blade incantation. The weapon and incant immediately rips of 20% of a bosses health with little risk
add Tiche and it becomes 30%
her destined death is unique
The bloodstained dagger has a unique 2hand R2 which is much faster than the regular R2.
One thing to note about the Wakizashi is that you can equip the ash of war “parry” to it, so you will be able to use the powerstance move set but also have a parry 🤙
If you've already been playing dual dagger for fun like I have, you already know this. But it's nice to finally, FINALLY see a guide on it.
Can't wait to try Greatdaggers in the DLC
I've been waiting for this for almost 2 years
I was honestly amazed by how well Reduvia was destroying early game bosses, even with low investment in Arcane. The problem is that late game, there a lot more bosses immune to bleed.
Being somber and easy to upgrade, I definitely developed a liking for it.
Main thing for Wakizashi is can be used ass an off-hand parry tool for katanas while keeping the katana powerstance move set.
Double Reduvia Bleed build is super fun
Running a dagger playthrough right now!
Cinquedea + Beastial Incantations is my favorite
you may know it already but I like to 2-hand my claw seal with the cinquedea off hand for max dmg
Wait until ng when you get 2. Super fun option for stregth/faith
great video
I’ve waited on this for so long 😂😂
I love putting parry on the wakazashi, power standing katanas and parrying is a lethal combo
Daggers are awesome to infused with parry, esp for enemies that have a bit more delay attacks. I killed all of the banished knights in castle sol and farum azula with it (riposte only). For parrying enemies with faster attacks, better use shield and curve swords parry.
I did a beast clergy cosplay build with cincadae and for most of the run I had to use garranq stone for posture breaking or even staggering heavy armor foes. I don’t usually use daggers so I was not prepared how hard it is to fight a knight that you can’t trade blows with just the knife
I did a new run with Sacred Blade and Erdsteel, it was great but Holy resistances forced me to switch out to Flaming Strike on some bosses like Morgott and Radagoon
If you combine all the frequent attack buffs and the bleed poison proc buffs on an arcane build with power stanced daggers that with high bleed and poisonous mist, the damage just gets stupid. I love it
I'm looking forward to the fist video
You can't compare critical rating between different weapon classes. The number shown in game is only for comparing within the class. Every weapon class has a hidden baseline crit multiplier. Commonly referred to as motion values. Those can also be different depending on the type of the target/opponent. If you riposte a player then your dagger does 420% damage if it says 100 crit in game. 110 crit would do 462% and 140 crit 588%. But other weapon classes can have very different baseline crit values. Halberds do 308% riposte if it's 100 crit. Larger weapons generally do crits in two separate damage chunks. Making the damge go throu flat resistances twice. But you can build up bleed with just a crit then sometimes. Because the motion values are different for different enemies, it's generally better to crit small enemies with small weapons and big enemies with big weapons. Giant/Crusher and Executioner's axe are goof for large enemies. Daggers and halberds are good for small enemies including other players
Old tech used to be to slap Flame of Redmanes on the Misericorde and have that as an offhand slot since you can just swap to it for easy stance breaks and high crit damage.
wait, does the blade of death and blade of gold dmg comparison account for late game holy resistance by the enemies/bosses? I know I ended up falling back to the black knife during late game boss fights simply because while the burst by the blade of gold is indeed higher, the dps is better with the blade of death.
It is also important to note that the blade of death's DOT seems to be %based.
Is it possible for you to do one for all the shields?
Loved the video, but it would be nice if you could also include occult scaling.
When will Fextra make a ytshort about Aldia?
Some guy ripped apart my Radagon with 2 Erdsteel daggers that had Flame of the Redmanes on it. It was insane
I've been waiting for this!
Hmm .... I don't have two wakasasi to test with but what is the stance damage on the powerstanced moveset, especially on the roll attack, because katana are inexplicably good at stance breaking. Could be a interesting option if you otherwise just like the dagger moveset one handed.
Due to the patch, are they still the best for applying status quickly? Or are say curve swords for example just as effective now (for dual wield)
Question is do we see a glintstone Kris build, or a Reduva one next week?
Godskin swaddling cloth, rotten winged sword insignia and Millicent's Prosthesis makes a pretty good combo
The skill on the Reduvia destroys. Make sure you have high Arcane. It has saved me from many a Rune Bear.
I like the idea of using the Bloodstained Dagger with a Greatshield so I’ve added that to my arsenal for my ps4 version character. I put Storm Blade on the dagger.
I’m going to be playing the ps4 and ps5 versions of Shadow of the Erdtree and both of my characters are just about ready to go.
Only thing to add on the wakazashi is you can power stance katana move set and have parry still without having to swap. That’s really it tho
When even-tempered Fex says a weapon is not his favorite or not the best it is his way of saying "this weapon is fucking clownshoes"
Torchs next?
I did a pure Intelligence build my first playthrough and completely ignored the Glintstone Kris despite acquiring it. It gets overshadowed by the Darkmoon Greatsword, Moonveil, and Wings of Astel, but I'm definitely going to give it a whirl when the DLC comes out.
its just as good as moonviel, wing of astel. with the right set up the ash does insane, near best in the game damage
Personally I had a fair amount of success power stancing the Wakizashi with a katana.
The Wakizashi would have Perry, giving me the option for doing perries while doing power stance attacks and then when I got a second one I could then use the swap between the two to allow me the use of my katana weapon art (moonveil) and a set up weapon art like Flintstone phalanx.
Been also saying this for a long, long time now on other forum / socials. Daggers in ER are lowkey OP. 'Til now Black Knife is still a fave and exclusively reserved for any boss fights as they have little to no resistance against it.
hello fextralive,
I have a question.
could you make a build video about the spark aromatics?
If you're wondering how, here's a suggestion.
Perfumers use daggers as their main weapon.
Why don't you do a double dagger build with frost daggers and use the aromatics to thaw the enemy?
I use a frost misericod with chilling mist
( for frost ) and scorpion stinger in the offhand for scarlet red.
And the best, the daggers scale best with dex and the Main damage is from dex.
I would be happy about that.
The Wakizashi can parry at the superior speed of a dagger while dual wielding the heavier posture damage of a regular katanas.
I'm currently doing a daggers only series in elden ring, with parry and reposte as a center if the boss is parriable, and I frequently watch fextralife videos on different weapon categories I only realised they haven't made a daggers specific video until I started streaming my own run and did research on daggers. Finally the video is here, I guess only daggers were left to cover by fextralife.
A minor error with the Cinquedea and Wakizashi; both are claimed to weight the most. Although with the Cinq there seems to have been an effort to fix it, apparently it was forgotten with the Waki.
do you plan to make some update videos o nthe first weapon category videos like greatswords? the newer videos are far more in depth
We'll likely do some more videos on previous weapons while comparing them to the new DLC weapons.
I use the wakazashi as a parry tool to access the dual wield katana attack and a parry
Erdsteel Dagger SO UNDERRATED
I have a dagger only character ready for the dlc
I was mostly using a status build with bleed and poison but switched into a strength build for radagon and elden beast using bloodstained dagger and the cinquadea
Now I’m not sure which of those to bring into the dlc given fromsoft reputation of destroying status builds on dlc
Best backup weapon ever, use for critics after break stances with square off on a longsword and wreak bosses like a real knight
Id love to see you use a build with moth flight
I dislike that he says how a weapon will have higher attack rating when infused with an element without mentioning the fact that it becomes split damage so for example if you have a keen infused dagger and it has 400 AR and you have a lightning infused dagger and it has 430 AR the keen dagger will do more damage because it doesn’t have to go through two types of defense. The only time lightning will out preform is if an enemy is significantly weaker to lightning damage. He also doesn’t mention what stats his character has wich skews results in favor of the elemental infusions because they have higher base damage and worse scaling
whats the black robes name you got on?
Wow, I had given up hope.
I still don't understand how he calculates the damage of different affinities. 80 points into the main stat for each or something? 40 in all stats? And why does he never mention Occult??
Daggers against moon sorceress is hilarious, you can rip through her in the first stage, strong enough the first time you knock her outta the air hahaha
I'm looking at 1.09 patch notes but don't see anything about dual wield status buildup?
I didn't realized that this is uploaded just recently.
Finally ❤. Why it took you so long?
I like to use Scorpion Stinger and Buckler against Radagon. I like giving him Scarlet Rot because he likes to sleep around. Thematically appropriate.
GinoMachino the goat already proved this
I'm finishing a run with magic misericorde focused on crits
I've been patiently waiting this video for some time, thank you for making it.
is there a viable way to play dagger and longsword together?
What armor is he using int he videos?
FUCKING FINALLY AFTER A WHOLE YEARRRRR
>.
Video : dagger are the best weapon in elden ring 💪🏽
TLDR verdict: daggers aren't so good 😢
Can you make stance break build? Did this game have a ez stance break spells or etc?
Check out the Tower Knight Build or Noble Swordsman.
@@Fextralife tanks. Tower Knigt This build is very similar to the Frankenstein build I'm currently using. Thanks to you, I can address a missing component and make it more functional.
Are daggers good against patches? I can't defeat him in murkwater cave 😢
Haven't watched yet but Reduvia obviously the MVP S Tier highest dagger of all time! Umbasa.
If you haven't done so already, why not do this kind of video for staves and seals?
What torso does he have on
13:50 Truly, what were they thinking?
The dedication and effort you guys put into your work is just astounding. Thank you ❤.
I remember watching these like 2 years ago lol, we back bois
These nerfs are wack
If you put a great hammer in each hand and the black knife as back up, your going to have a good time.
"Impressive.... very nice... now lets see paul allens dagger"
Finally, the truth is revealed. I've always known daggers were the best, but it makes sense cuz of the backstab mechanic alone.
Don't let the Italians hear that "cinquedea" pronunciation
