Used the video to replace my springs on an old Torquemaster One single spring setup. The video was unbelievably helpful in figuring out the steps to reinstall everything in the right order and get things lined up. Thank you so much for posting this!
We're always happy to hear that our videos have been helpful to someone replacing their garage door parts themselves. We're glad that this was such a help for you, Michael!
Very good videos you do. Question: One a Torquemaster 1 (which I have, twin spring version on 7' door) is there ever a reason for one spring to be adjusted to 12 and other to 16? This door will not go more than half way up in really cold weather without a nudge. The other identical door is set to 14/14. Should be identical right?
Hi Stephen! There shouldn't be a reason for that: they should both be able to be wound the same amount of turns. One reason for this to happen could be that the springs would be not matched properly to the door's weight, and would require extra turns to lift the door at all. You should refer to our ddmgaragedoors.com/diy-instructions/torquemaster-torsion-spring-replacement.php tutorial to see some things that could be the problem on your door.
Good question, Mike. The spacer rod is only for longer springs. It helps the spring to get the proper amount of stretch and spacing so that it can lift the weight that it is supposed to. All of the smaller springs do not have a spacer rod inside of them, and so there is no need to put one in. Mixing and matching springs is the way to be able to match the weight of the door to the right springs. Often, when converting to a two spring setup that is lifting the same weight, each spring will be smaller than the one big one that was originally on the door.
Hi Tyrone! If this is happening on your door, the first thing that I would do is make sure that the cables are taught on the cable drums. If they aren't, then bringing them closer together could cause them to slip off the drums, loosening the already loose cables more, and possibly causing more issues such as the cables tangling.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I got my springs replaced and everything back into the correct spot but once I tried to open the garage door and lower it again the cables didn't seem to go into the grooves on cable drum. They just get bound together and then the garage door gets stuck. Let me know if you can help.
Hi Jim! With this issue, we would recommend that you first check to make sure that your cables are tightly wound around the cable drums. You will want to unwind them entirely, and then when you're rewinding them, make sure that they are wound on the drums the correct way. If they aren't the door will not open properly for you.
Good Instructional Video, however what a classic case of over engineering a product. I watched a traditional spring replacement video and was excited to take on my project. Then I realized I had a Wayne Dalton door and a different spring system. I found this video and the amount of steps and tools needed is ridiculous. Two vice grips? Who owns two? And wholly cow, charge me $20 more and give me a new tube so I don't have to mess with the spring and sleeve removal. That seems like it will be the hardest part.

Great video THANK YOU very professional well done
Thanks, Jim for the kind words! Stay safe, and God bless!
What is the spacer rod used for? I didn't see it installed again for the new springs. Is it supposed to push against the opposite rod?

How many turns to tension on torquemaster one 7x8 door?
Thank you
Hi Artur! On a door that is 7' high, the number of turns would be 16 turns on a spring, to get your spring system properly tensioned.
If i open my garage door and the cables on both sides starts to loosen up what is my problem?

Thanks a lot !! Very helpful
We're very glad to hear that, Doddy!
Excellent! Thank You!
Thank you for watching, Alexander!

Hi Ron! Thanks for the comment. We hope this was at least a helpful tutorial, despite the amount of equipment necessary to complete the task.
