    Yes! Been waiting for P38 videos for a while! I got stuck with mine as it stopped working. We got it working sunday after getting the air out the diesel lines by cracking the injectors and i got so excited. It was however shortlived as one night later, it stopped firing again. I tried cracking the injectors again, but to no avail, more a two person job than one. But i've been rather disheartened. There is some good news remaining however, the Air suspension is working without issue, goes up, goes down, sets its own height. So i have that at least.

    Wow, P38's are 30 years old now! I remember it on the cover of Car magazine alongside the then-new Jaguar XJ6. Your one is a credit to your hard work, and to Autodoc too of course.

      I’m very fond of it despite its underwhelming performance in the hefty P38. Definitely would be better with a manual. If I keep the truck she may end up with an M57 but I’ll be holding onto the M51 for future projects. Would be really cool in an old Jag or another classic saloon.

      @@SamsMotors Nope, other than blowing a brake line on the way home and the slight whiff of damp... everything working OK, forgot how nice she is to drive compared to a P38. Thought I might have starter motor issue but turned out to be a dodgy battery and poor ground clamp. She fired straight up, think she is still on E5 fuel? lpg is almost the same as petrol near me so she will have to be weekend toy. I did look after her before COVID with the finest fluids and parts money could buy... gaffer tape and tractor oil!

    Only vehicle i oven that had a bible instead of a handbook in the glove compartment!
    I got a fearne full size intercooler and remapped ecb installed (like night n day).
    But still after upgrading it on the steering damper binning the viscus fan for a kenlowe, upgrading the main bulbs to 150w.and replacing the airbags it was unreliable. The intercooling was good and improved its economy strangely enough.
    Overall, too over engineered with BAD quality.
    Peddled it and got a l322 - much better.

    I am a big customer of AUTODOC for my L322 and other cars; you can’t beat the price, but I have to say that you need to plan ahead; delivery within the EU tends to be about a week; to the UK, up to two weeks or more. As long as you aren’t in a rush, I haven’t found better pricing. I had heard that in the past they’d substitute (without asking!) their house brands for name brands that people order (using the excuse that they’re giving you a more expensive part for the same price) but I’ve never had that happen, and haven’t heard that complaint lately. Oh, another issue: if you don’t order right away (you leave the items in your basket), you’ll find that prices fluctuate daily… if you wait a couple of weeks, though, the prices will eventually return to the attractive price you found to start with…

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All fair points! Here in Ireland it's about 7-10 days for delivery which as you say, is do-able as long as you've planned ahead.

    I just painted my P38s front bumper in body colour, Arizona Riviera blue, and it's changed the look of the car completely!
    I didn't want a full colour coded one, so I did half plastic, half body colour. I also painted the lower spoiler and I'm super happy with the result
    I use AUTODOC alot as the choice of brands is nice, I pretty much bought everything Febi Bilstein or as close to BMW oem for when I rebuilt my P38s M51

      @peterwarner8541 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting I’m just about to get a half coloured one for mine. My bumpers are grey, I can’t figure out whether they were black to start with and have faded badly or were grey to start with. I even bought an original brochure but it’s not clear from that either!

      @@peterwarner8541 For the plastic parts I painted them with Motip bumper spray. It's a long lasting laqcuer that makes it look original and clean.

    It would be amazing if you could keep the original head unit, but slide one of those bluetooth casette things into it to somewhat modernise the car enough that it wouldn't be a hassle to use frequently. I always find my heart breaking a touch when I see aftermarket head units that don't even try to look era accurate.

    Did you ever fix your ride on the l322? I recently bought one with vdc and when I bought it the battery had gone low and it was in a “towing” mode I’d say as it was riding the same as when I’ve had a trailer on my old l322 with vdc. This made me think whirl watching your videos on it, have you ever checked the towbar electrics or considered removing them temporarily to see it it helps? When I towed the rear went hard and the truck bounced even when the trailer had no weight on it so I shouldn’t have felt it. Anyway just thought I’d mention it in case it helps.

      @@SamsMotors That appear to be a myth after all there are loads in scrapyards; scrapyards that are all about 400 miles away from me. I had to replace rear dampers. The bolts are hidden in a recess in the chassis in a groove. The bolts were rusted and rounded off so to remove them i had to cut holes in the floor, then grind bolts out. As soon as it's roadworthy and safe, it's going. That don't make sense i know, but so fed up with it. Also the ride is really harsh. Another thing is Hilux owners are not the most friendly and helpful of people. When i had BMW's everyone wanted to offer hints and tips. Hilux owners just don't want to know.
