@@ausraeid4857 not all BMWs are heavy. it depends on what model and year you have. the E10 2002 and E21 323i both weigh around 2500 lbs which is very lightweight. you can add a supercharger to any car and make it do well in a 0-60 quarter mile
Drive a e36 m3 and tell me, All M cars perform similarly. the difference is the luxury. My m3 is very fast, handles beautifully and is luxurious enough for me. A little noisy though, but what glorious noise. So pick your poison and quit the fan boy BS.
I;m thoroughly impressed by the 3.2! I had use of a friend's mildly tweaked E39 M5 all summer, and regularly tromped new 'Vettes and Shelby 500s at highway speeds. Of course there's no replacement for displacement so the M power V8 will ultimately win every time, but, dayum, that 6 was putting up some serious competition. There's a cheap M3 for sale near me right now... I might have to check it out. Imagine what that M3 could achieve with the addition of a blower and an unrestricted exhaust.....
That M3 engine loves to rev! That M5 is definitely missing some power though... it should start to pull away at higher speeds. At least until you hit the limiter.
Great driving guys!... my fav is and always will be the E39 M5, that's the big daddy boss car :P Although I'm more partial to the straight-6, that S62 V8 was (and still is) outta this world. Huge props to the E36 for keeping up tho, that's one helluva fast M3 to be running with it's bigger brother like that. Damn... :)

My E36 M3 just sits on the drive looking pretty. Can't afford the insurance at the moment; how sad is that. This video 'fills the hole' a little. Thanks.

I know the US ones have different engines and lesser power. But M5 is a quick car, Erik's M3 is very well sorted though from what I can see, with his dyno read out. putting out a little more than stock.
@m5boarddotcom Hello Gustav, For the info, this M5 has been on the dyno today. The owner wanted to know if the MAF's were good. So he brought new MAF's with him. The result: 391,1HP with the old ones, 399,4HP with the new ones. So the car is running good, also in this race. Kind regards, Erik ;-)

Been dying to find out which one is quicker iv owned an m3 evo for 2 years, absolutely love it, & i can tell you with my hand on my heart nothing on 4 wheels has beat me yet! But due to my baby getting high on miles im starting to look at either getting an e39 m5 or a lower milege e36 again. I worked on BMW's for a few years so i know how good the e39 is, it's just whether it is quicker. Some say the m5 would paste the e36, i doubt that, but im on the fence as to whether it has the edge!?
@Plisii Yes, Mine is an E36 M3 3.2ltr 1996, cosmos black. ( we got the Euro spec here in Australia) Yeah, M5 would be very nice and comfortable, I have not been in the E39 yet. Dads is the E34 M5 3.6Ltr. When he bought it then engine had a knock in it. he got it at a good price so its not a consequence. He will fix it when he has the time for it. He also has an Alpina C2 2.5 E30.

Think about the weight difference vs the power difference... I was considering getting rid of my E36 M3 for the M5 but I guess its not worth the major price difference.
I just bought a M%. Kept the M3. This video reinforced my feeling about the cars performance. My m3 is strong. Noisy and rough, very fun. The M5 is very sophisticated in comparison. Equally as fast, much smoother and quieter. Both are easy-fast. They hammer the miles into the RV mirror.

Derestricted M5 220 plus kills the M3 but nevertheless the performance of that straight six is stunning !!!

At both cars the non-stock mufflers didn't gain any more power accoording to the Dyno.
How is your E36 M3 321 HP? Mine is 240 HP. I've been wishing to upgrade to the E39 M5 for more power (and easier to haul kids around).
