No there are no grapes in Newfoundland, But some believed the Vikings called Gooseberries grapes, when ripe they turn purple, & they grew plentiful along the coastal parts of Newfoundland, Gooseberry is a native berry of Newfoundland

@@strangelycanadian its the accepted reason, as yes we dont have grapes growing in either the island or mainland portion of the island. Also, they also mine (to this day) Iron Ore in Labrador West, so you may wanna make the verbal distinction. Also, many do dives in those Bell Island mines, and they even shot a cpl movies there (including a scifi film)

You missed the phantom skeet bag of Water Street, who appears at night and asks you for a cigarette or a dollar for coffee.

You probably should have specified that you were talking about the iron mines on Bell Island in the first one, since there are also very large iron deposits in Labrador that started to be mined in the later 20th century

no Labrador-centric stories?? there is a load of strange tales from up there, from famous UFO encounters, the “Traverspine Gorilla" (there are multiple tales of Sasquatch-like creatures in Labrador), Ol Smoker (hauntings), etc. also, there is no record of grapes (even wild) in Newfoundland (especially that region of Newfoundland which is taiga, which is drastically different in climate from lower Quebec where wild grapes grow in around the St Lawrence Basin (the mainland portion of NL, Labrador, is connected to Quebec and doesnt have wild grapes growing there either even though it is Boreal forest like Quebec unlike Newfoundland which has plants and animals not typical of Labrador, in addition to there being no evidence of any viking settlements or contact in Quebec or New Brunswick (which also has a different climate from northern Newfoundland which can get colder than northern Labrador and you can barely get strawberries growing there let alone grapes). Gooseberries can grow to an exceptional size, dwarfing blueberries in the wild and growing on larger bushes vs ground scrub (research is a fun thing). There is even viking artifacts found in Labrador (referred to by them as Markland and Helluland). also, you pronounce the 'th' in Beothuk (no living speakers exist, btw, they were hunted to extinction by colonists who then blamed the Miqma for this, as well as those who claim the ancestry provide zero proof that they are descendants).
