  • Watch to discover how much it costs to live in Thailand in episode three of the Thailand Cost of Living series in Chiang Mai. I was shocked after adding up the total costs for the needs and wants lists. Expenses included food, snacks, meals, drinks, hotels, apartments, laundry, massages, transportation, and much more! Watch the final episode to learn all about how much it costs to live in Thailand per month and annually. See the links below for the affiliate links and other videos mentioned in the episode.

    New subscriber here. This Needs vs. Wants series is very informative for me. I've been to Changmai only once but will be heading there in December.

    Your needs list is a lot cheaper than you calculated long term because you would not stay in a hotel for 400 baht a day, you would rent condo and at say 8000 a month that's about 260 baht a day. Cheers 👍

      It's definitely a lot cheaper to rent a condo for people who intend to stay much longer. Where do you think is the best area in Chiang Mai to get the best deals on condo rentals?

      Thanks for subscribing and commenting! There should be a similar video coming up eventually about the cost of living in Vietnam too. Both are really affordable countries to visit for a while! 😎

    Thanks for the video! I think I can double that figure and live comfortably just to be safe... My age will make health insurance more expensive. Do you ever do any videos from Hua Hin?

    • @PepeLePauly
      @PepeLePauly  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're welcome haha... Yes, I think doubling that amount would allow you to live very comfortably. The health insurance seems to go up with every decade in age unfortunately. I never made it to Hua Hin but maybe on the next trip whenever that is. The cost of living there would be similar to Chiang Mai though maybe slightly more expensive. Have you researched it there much?

    I have walked through dubia mall and only bought boat sundae ice-cream

      How was it? The ice cream at convenience stores in Thailand is cheap and addictive!

    Health insurance is required so a need yes? Also visa costs and taxes need to be considered

    • @PepeLePauly
      @PepeLePauly  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's also a need unfortunately... I think SafetyWing has some good options for short-term travelers. Visa costs need to be factored in when staying longer term too. I'm not so sure about the taxes though if you're planning on working part-time there or remotely etc.

    • @PepeLePauly
      @PepeLePauly  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's true. The beer in Vietnam is even cheaper though. Sometimes less than 50 cents! 🍺

    can you show us the condo with that budget?

    • @PepeLePauly
      @PepeLePauly  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Unfortunately not now. I booked most of my stay in Chiang Mai with budget hotels on Agoda. There are lots of options to choose from there and some places on Agoda offer rooms to rent for a month. Though, I think it's best to book a few days there first, then you can see what rentals are available in the area that you like once you've been there for a week or so. Construction noise and noisy neighbors are always a risk when booking longer monthly stays 😅

    Can VISA costs be kept to $50/mo USD?

    • @PepeLePauly
      @PepeLePauly  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tough to estimate that one and it depends on your nationality, citizenship etc. Immigration seems to be clamping down on the number of visa runs you can do per year too. 😅

    very inaccurate...so many things left out is just sad...just a few as an example: no medical insurance,no dates,no travel anywhere, no haircuts, no maintence items(personal and cleaning), no visa costs. A rather lame attempt at minimalism. I would guess that he is guessing. This is for someone visiting and doing nothing and leaving which is simply stupid. Long term more and more costs add up like $25k visa deposit.

    Shit. 6k per year for needs. + 6k for wants. 12k for the whole year …. 15k max 😂 you have to add accommodation correct ? A fancy condo costs 30k thb per month. 1k. Usd per month. 12k for condo. So total 25k usd per year max

    • @PepeLePauly
      @PepeLePauly  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      15k MAX with all the needs and wants which includes accommodation... There are more details about hotels/apartments in the previous episode too 👍

    Where are the best places in old town, Chang Mai, to get a room in budget hotels for say around 300 to 500 baht a night, any names budget hotels??
    Not interested in Agoda, FB, Airbnb etc, there total garbage for the costs, so please don't refer them

    • @PepeLePauly
      @PepeLePauly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are some affordable places to stay everywhere but I found the upper east corner in Old City had some cheaper hotels. Even if you don't like Agoda, I'd use their map search feature to get a bird's-eye view of the whole area so you can have an idea of what you'd expect to pay. How long do you plan to stay there for? You can get a discount for longer stays, but then you're rolling the dice if there's a problem at the hotel with construction or loud neighbors etc...
