This is a great video. I will clarify that in a Grand Slam tournament the maximum number of sets is 5 but that applies only to men matches. Women is always maximum 3 sets.
you did an amazing job explaining scoring methods. thank you so much. i get it all and now i can talk about tennis with my friends and understand what is happening at the time of match. thank you again. i appreciate your efforts behind making this cool video. Cheers.
I got a question When I'm serving on the AD side, standing close to the imaginary center line my foot not crossing it though 1. Can the racket cross the imaginary center line when I swing? 2. Can the contact point with the ball cross the imaginary center line?
Honestly, it’s just the way the numbers are set up that makes it confusing for some people. If you were to take the numbers and replace them with another system or maybe letters or condense the numbers somehow I believe people would understand it a lot more. I fully understand it, but that’s because I made myself learn because for one I think tennis is interesting. In my opinion it’s one of the hardest sports even though I’ve never really played it just from watching you have to have extreme hand, eye, coordination, and mobility Just to run and reach the ball. But I also do sports betting on tennis. So in order to actually win money, I had to really really learn how the game works and believe me I still get things wrong lol took me a while at first to understand that total games doesn’t mean the person serving total games. It means the total games in the entire match across both players.I remember not understanding that for like six months and I was making bets not getting what it meant and I kept losing and I was like how the fuck am I always losing? This makes no sense and then I looked at the stuff again and realized oh fuck. Total games means for both people not for one person.😅 we all make mistakes lol
You always call your point or game score first. If you have 15 and the other has 40, you say the score is 15-40. Or the game count is "1 serving 3" if you have 1 game and the other guy has 3.
up to 13. First one to 6 but win by 2 games, so 6-4. Or it can go to 7-5. Unless it is tied at 6-6, then a tie break occurs and game score would then be 7-6. So 13 games total.
@@skateordie9628 no the graphic is correct too. But i can see where you're getting confused. 6-4,4-6 represent sets that have already been won. To win a set you need to win 6 games.
When you think about it, though these rules make more sense and it’s clear cut and it makes it to where there really is no need for a lot of playback and challenging like a lot of other sports especially us Americans. Think about football or baseball how many times they need to stop and slow the camera down just to see an angle of something then players are being challenged. Next thing you know Five minutes later of game delay finally there’s an answer and it was usually the one most people thought it was in the first place. Something is small as a centimeter out of the goal line can make a break a touchdown. Sure these are clear lines in the sport that they have to determine scoring but at the same time There’s so many close calls and a lot of these other American sports. I feel like this is why people get so angry is because they feel like they’re being cheated half the time with crappy calls but look at stuff like tennis, really be honest with yourself how can you call a crappy call? It’s simple if you miss the ball And it hits in your own, you lose the point if you miss the ball, but it hits out of bounds of your zone then it’s your point. Then from there all you need to understand is zero is obviously zero which they call love then take it like this 15 means one 30 means two and 40 means four once you hit five it resets because you’ve won that match. Each set match is six games so look at it like this when you’re looking at a tennis score that’s live and you see the number six above a number four and then you look to the right and there’s another line and it says three and underneath that three is a number two that means the player with six won the first match set and the player who won the first match set is now ahead in the second match set by one game. Each time they win a game and number one goes next to their name above the score that the opponent has once you hit six that’s a match set then you jump to the next match set. The objective in most tennis games is a three match set best two out of three. This is why sometimes you’ll see three lines of scores because each player has won one match set each, and they are on the final match that whoever wins that one wins the game. In all honesty it’s very very easy to understand.
so if its 6-6 and a tie break is introduced, you start at 0-0 again?? and then the person so score 7 points first, wins the set? (expect its 6-6 in this tiebreak again, then you must score 2 points consecutively??)
???? I never knew Tennis would be tougher to understand than american football. I just heard the phrase "Triple Break Point" no earthly idea what that means. And term, "3 WON sets" made my head hurt. Won sounds like one. So I hear "3-1 set". So I still don't like tennis.
This is the best video I found but the moment I got up I forgot everything except for the Advantage point 40-40 deuce 😭 and I need to learn everything because my dad is telling me too even though I told him I don't want to play tennis anymore and that I want to be a singer 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I'm just going to write everything down he'll never know
That is NOT why "love" represents zero in tennis. The REAL reason is that the French would say "the egg" (spelled L' oeuf) which looks like a zero. Similar to a "turkey egg" representing zero in English parlance. The English speaker would hear that and could only think of the word "love". It has nothing to do with "the love of the game".
yep ur vidéo was great explication was on point but tbh shits still understandably like wtf. where they get this sport frm lol salute to all the players tho not bashing but fuk i feel dumb still can’t understand lol
I totally agree. Tennis is elitist. Even if you some how afford it, it is designed to exclude simple minded people with quantum (nonairthmetic) scoring system.
I'm still confused but ima re-watch this every day until I understand.
Did you
@vincesupersick674 I stopped because I understand the general concept but now I have more questions that this video doesn't adress.
@@BlueMage_08 good luck friend
Yea… it took me awhile to..
Watched it like 9x
Well, that really cleared things up... I'm glad they didn't make it unnecessarily overly complicated.

Men’s singles only yeah
I’m still confused lol
0-15-30-40 = 1 game , 6games = 1 set i think idk bro
Me too
@@bozoking3746 games =1 set except in grand slam where it’s 12 (I think)

I cannot believe that I remember this from middle school. 30 years ago. shout out to bowditch Middle School for teaching us tennis.
Still dont understand
Still don’t get it
5:05 wouldn’t it be 3 to 0 instead of 3 to 2?
A valuable video, it helped me understand how the score is working in tenis, thank you for the video man.
very informative video greetings from egypt thanks a lot
I'll save your video and watch it more, to understand better and better
Yes...I was also curious about why 0 is called love...thanks for the info
i loved this video!! really helped me out !!
I still haven’t a clue, I give up,

1. Can the racket cross the imaginary center line when I swing?

Both yes.
Really helped so much I had sort of gotten scoring but now I really understand

I might have missed this, but can you score even if it’s not your serve
What does it mean by points are given with respect to server?
You always call your point or game score first. If you have 15 and the other has 40, you say the score is 15-40. Or the game count is "1 serving 3" if you have 1 game and the other guy has 3.
More confused than I was.
Trying to learn this for I can do some betting lmao , so how many games can be in one set for it to be determined one game?
up to 13. First one to 6 but win by 2 games, so 6-4. Or it can go to 7-5. Unless it is tied at 6-6, then a tie break occurs and game score would then be 7-6. So 13 games total.
If it’s confusing, watch another explanation (or2) and return. I know that this is obvious, but it helped me.
on 0:41 it seems to contradict itself
shouldn't it be points make a set and sets make a game?
No points make a game,games make a set,sets make a match
@@Aana1205 ok, thanks! So the graphic is wrong at 0:41 then (not the text) where the graphics say sets it should be games

Wait tie break ends the scoring by one of the players winning a point (7) but also has to win by 2 points? I’m confused
dope explaination. had to see twice to understand though

Gotta do this for homework lol😂

Yes
5:04 doesn’t he lead 3 to 0, not 3 to 2?
I was 21 in 2004. You sound like you could be my grandpa!
All's I'm looking for is why does it go from 30 to 40 when previously counting by 15!!!??
Point set match? But there are four numbers? What’s the 4th number?
you forgot game
why are you saying the scores 15-15 or 30-30 when you should be saying 15 all or 30 all.
Thanks....for the info
