    👁 About this video : In today's video it's time to drive a manual transmission third generation Toyota Tacoma for the first time!! After owning mine for just over three years now, I have never been behind the wheel of the manual so this was definitely a cool experience! I'm not new to manuals, I just feel like they are better suited for sportscar and it's more engaging to me to drive around in a manual sportscar! My opinion has changed some after driving this manual Tacoma! Would I buy one after driving this??? I don't think I would trade mine for one, but at some point I would buy another Tacoma along side mine and get the manual for sure! I was so impressed with how it did in the grass at slow speeds with the clutch feel and not even having to touch it as much as I thought. Coming from the sportscar side where you need to feather the clutch as slow speeds, this was really cool to see! I could definitely see going offroad and utilizing the manual for better control! Also on the road, you can of course holds gears better and it's very smooth and easy to drive! The shifter is much longer then I'm use to in a car, but it's still a lot of fun!!

    I’ll never stray from my manual transmission. I love it. Only automatic I had was my car in high school as that was a used car I purchased. As soon as I finished college in 2002, and started working full time and could afford new car... standard all the way. You’re much more in control of the vehicle and I like that I spend less $ on brake maintenance. Plus it’s an easy theft deterrent. Haha. Barely anyone knows how to drive a standard these days. There is no ordering with Toyota. It's called a allocation. The dealer has to get a allocation for that specific spec'ed vehicle. I just got lucky since a local dealer just got a allocation for a LR TRD OR 6sp manual. Salesman texted me this morning asking if was something I would interested in. Hell yea, slapped down a $500 deposit. When I might actually see it is a whole different story. I still have and am keeping my 17 4R TRDP in cement, so it makes waiting a lot easier.

    Get the manual. Core hurst short shifter, weighted knob, accumulator delete and ovtune will change your life. Traffic isn’t bad either, you can crawl in first with no gas around 1-3mph so stop and go traffic hasnt been an issue for me at all. Also has hill hold, so you wont roll back for ~2 seconds with your foot on the clutch until you release. And i still have adaptive cruise control, which will stay on when shifting in my 2020 sport

EPA estimate MPG is higher for the auto than manual. Since I replaced the horrible stock tires that came with my Sport with Goodrich Wranglers my MPG has gone down some but usually average about 17mpg mixed driving. You nailed it! You cannot simply trade an auto to Manual because there are no Manuals in a lot, if you find one, Good luck bargaining! I waited 6 months to get a manual. I find the most comfortable gear to go at 30-35 MPH is the 3rd. I once shift into 6th at 45 MPH and it can't handle it. The gearing in this taco reminds me of my Hilux LN 106 which also comes with 4:30 ratio.

    Half a million Jihadi's can't be wrong; the man's transmission is the way to go. The forums are loaded with bitching and whining about the automatics, so I stayed away from Otto's transmissions. I had to order the truck to get a do-it-yourself transmission. Toyota's packages stink and I had to get the short bed to get the features I wanted, or buy a black or white truck. I've owned a black truck and won't do that again. And, I like the shorter wheelbase off road. I've always driven manuals. Much better speed control. I've never had to repair a manual transmission. I generally drive my cars 14-16 years before I hand them down, and I've also never replaced a clutch. I've never needed a "Crawl" feature. That's for people whose reach exceeds their grasp.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would disagree on the crawl feature. I've been offroading for several years and I think it's sweet to see that technology in the truck. I've used it before to see what the truck can do, but there have been times where it didn't help and I used my skills to get out or up an obstacle. But the manual is definitely fun for sure! I've seen them in more then just white/black, just like this one!

      Even at 70 mph I'm only at 2200, it was at 1800 before I did the regear, I don't see it going that high for 80. But these trucks weren't designed to be fuel efficient at those speeds, especially for long distance. The faster you go, the less mpg you get. I don’t mean people who have autos hate driving, but if you have a rough commute, as I used to, an auto is the way to go! Before, driving my wrx through rush hour traffic on the interstate was not what I’d call a great time lol, so switching to a grand Cherokee allowed me to not hate my commute as much. I don’t have to contend with the interstate now, so I made the switch to the Taco. Super jealous of your R8!!! Must be so much fun.

    If I didn’t have my 2020 Tundra TRD Pro, I would definitely consider a Tacoma TRD Pro or Off Road in manual. And long term I would definitely supercharge it. Having driven manual Hilux trucks in the past, it’s definitely more engaging and fun to drive day today. I personally don’t mind driving a manual in traffic or on the daily so to each their own. Good luck with your decision.

      The only reason I did that was because I switched out wheels, I went from 18's to 17's to a different set of 17's and was switching out tires to go bigger! The nitto ridge grapplers are one of the best tires I've had and they are really great! Highly recommend them.

    Just bought, 08/21/2022, a new Tacoma 4x4 Off Road Manual, short bed, led lights, power adjustable driver's seat, cruise control, lane assist, locking rear end, Army Green. Been searching/pricing Tacoma trucks online for several months. Happened to luckily find this truck one day after it arrived at the dealer which another person had ordered and was unable to take delivery. I pull a small tear-drop camper we use for base camp set-up, then hike & wander on off-beaten roads in the back hills & mountains in North Georgia & North Carolina. Bought on the spot because I knew it wouldn't be on the lot for very long. One thing that totally surprised me, brand new pricing was a lot less than used. $38,900. Go figure. Tampa, FL area.

    Went back to a 6 speed manual in a 2012 Sonic ltz after 25 years of autos only, just because I wanted a DD and short commute and not drive my truck daily. If I didn’t have a 5,000 lb camper to pull a few times a year I would trade both vehicles for a manual Tacoma.....

  • @NicholasNormile
    @NicholasNormile 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    "Rowing through the gears in a manual made it a lot more fun and driver engaging", but you didn't want your truck to be a lot more fun and engaging? I don't get the logic.
    To answer your question, I'd 100% trade in your auto for the manual. I don't have a Tacoma, but I do daily drive a GTI with an insanely heavy Stage I clutch, and even in NC traffic I've never wanted the optional DSG.
    Also why are you constantly moving up two or three feet in stop and roll traffic? Just wait until there's a few car lengths in front of you before creeping up, makes driving so much less frustrating.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't row through the gears as much in a truck. In a car you can downshift to punch it and do that more for speed. In a truck, it's just a truck, it's not meant for power and doing the same type of driving. I drive my r8 much harder being a sportscar. And I was just saying, traffic can be constantly changing depending on what's going on.

    I can eeek 20.7mpg highway at sea level on flat ground out of my TRD off-road (Army green) MT taco 70+mph . Having driving both the automatic is annoying because the transmission can not make a decision.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After I re-geared my automatic, driving on the highway has been very smooth!! No more shift happy gear changes! But at the same time, Toyota should have fixed that so re-gearing wasn't something to do later.
