My preorder arrived a week or so back. Very fun to see the development of this character. There aren't a lot of authors who can entice me to read a bunch of their unfinished and abandoned drafts, but Howard is definitely one of them.

That's great that those early stories have finally been published. I love that character!

It's funny you said there's no monsters in the story but it looks like El Borak hunting Dinosaurs I look at that book cover but it's interesting I'll get my copy of this book.

I picked up the Swords of the North hardcover from REH press and it's a very nice quality book. I haven't read any El Borak yet, so I'll need to check out the Del Ray edition first, but I'll definitely keep an eye on what else they print.

I can’t remember if you mentioned Harold Lamb or some other members of the book community.
I wonder if you have done a video on Lamb. As he influenced Howard. If you haven’t, or even if you have, I would be interested to get your take on Lamb.
Actually I would be interested to know who you think Howard read. Being unfamiliar with Lamb, Howard can seem totally original. But knowing how material can influence one’s impetus to write and writing style; it would seem natural to try and do a deep dive on writers, or movies, that Howard could have been influenced by. For instance, did Howard watch any early Tarzan movies (before Weissmuller and Crabbe)? Some early silent films were epic in their production of sets from the ancient world or imaginary settings. Was Howard influenced by writers like H. Rider Haggard, whose writing seems similar in the style of evocation. All those archaeological discoveries made in his time must have had some effects as well.
Who else was in the pulps prior to Howard, or contemporaneously, besides Lovecraft?

I know Howard loved Lamb, and there are some similarities between them, but boy do I find them to be very different writers overall. Lamb is way slower paced, more mature, more historically grounded, and a lot more about clever characters vs blood spurting barbarians.
But I would say that Lamb is one of the finest authors the pulps ever produced.

@@robpetersen87 I made it about a third of the way through the first of the Nebraska Khlit volumes before getting bogged down, you're definitely right about the slower pace vs Howard. A bit too slow for me, it turns out.

Oh, it's a real cover! I thought you made it for the thumbnail. I know exactly zero about this author aside from I have learned from you. But that cover is fantastic, LOL!
