This was actually my first video game when I was 5 years old on the Snes! I had this, Contra 3 Alien wars, Maximum Carnage (spiderman), Primal Rage, Killer Instinct, Mario Kart, and Yoshi's Island.
Ah, the good old days! I remember being a kid and getting my hands on Mortal Kombat from Walmart. It was such a thrill, especially with that chip shortage going on. I can still recall spending my birthday money, a whole $99, to make that purchase. Those were the days when we did things just to be cool. Such fond memories! 😂
I got to thinking about why this version was called Competition Edition and it's likely because this isn't even a true port of the arcade game. The play mechanics are nothing like the arcade. Without the blood and or authentic fatalities either it's an original variant. The Super Nintendo iteration is totally it's own thing entirely! Where as most other ports at least attempted to be faithful to the arcade version, Nintendo decided to remake it. It's really kind of surprising to me that the "Competition Edition" was able to get release approval from Boon & Tobias.
Nintendo and Sega were weird. I had both as a kid and the differences were bizarre. I always liked the SNES controller more and the Super Mario games were better than Sonic. The sound was mostly better on SNES but the colors were more vibrant with the Genesis.
Just played through this on very hard after many years. Competition edition more like competition against the input lag. Jesus what a joke. Back in the day it didnt really occur to me how bad it really was. This is so bad i had to throw it away. Ive been playing through all the versions i have starting with genesis, genesis arcade edition, and sega cd. I had some input lag on those maybe cd was worse, but compared to snes, practically no lag. Next im moving onto PC dos and Arcade versions, both on very hard as well. Input shouldnt be issue there.
I actually have a separate channel for that now! I've mentioned it before on Delz channel but it gets lost in the shuffle. But yeah I have a dedicated horror channel now, for horror reviews, props, toys, etc Look up RIDDICT'S HORROR HOUSE. I apologize for not getting the word out better 🍻

Definitely has the megadrive/genesis beat in looks, but I think that's about it.

Yea it has very stiff controls. I agree the music is great along with the graphics but they really dropped the ball elsewhere.
