    About Iron Maiden:
Iron Maiden are an institution. Over the course of 44 years they have come to embody a spirit of fearless creative independence, ferocious dedication to their fans, and a cheerful indifference to their critics that’s won them a following that spans every culture, generation, and time-zone. A story of gritty determination and courageous defiance of the naysayers, theirs has been an adventure like no other.
The band’s immense discography includes the studio albums ‘The Number Of The Beast’, ‘Piece Of Mind’, ‘Powerslave, ‘Somewhere In Time’, ‘Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son’, ‘Fear Of The Dark’, ‘The Final Frontier’ and ‘The Book Of Souls’which have spawned many classic hits as ‘The Trooper’, ‘Wasted Years’, ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’, ‘Wasting Love’, ‘Run To The Hills’, ‘Aces High’, ‘Rime Of The Ancient Mariner’ and ‘2 Minutes to Midnight’.

That's an obviously over-the-top statement, but both are amazing, in particular, "The Parchment", which I hold as the best Steve penned epic since "Sign Of The Cross". The whole Oriental vibe is just mesmerizing, the instrumental section starting at 3:30 mind-blowing.

Bruce said in an interview I watched that they were so pumped about this one they were talking about making another album right then on top of senjutsu, but then they said that would be too much given they were still on the LOTB tour and what not. I doubt it would be their last album. They’ve got a couple more in them I’m sure. And If not, this would be a solid album to leave off on in my opinion. I’m sure they’ve got a plethora of unreleased music, live albums etc for when they do retire.

While other girls my age (i’m 23 now) listened to Beyoncé, and chart music I became a Maiden fan about 12, even them live three times and loved every song and show. This album and this song are incredible and beyond epic. Steve Harris once again has crafted a masterpiece, the riffs and Bruce’s voice are astonishing, Nico’s drumming is exceptional. "To Tame A Land," and I also hear (referrering mainly to the solos in the songs) "Hallowed Be Thy Name, Powerslave, The Nomad, The Talisman, Alexander the Great, Fear of the Dark" and some obscure stuff from the first two albums that I can't seem to isolate. Maybe influences from the "Killers" guitaring. It could just be some of the guitar style and sound is being used from that period. The first two albums are my favorites, so I'm not sure why I can't lock in to what I'm hearing. But this new album is really solid, despite a few vocal issues and production flaws.

I'd be so glad to be wrong, but there's not a single song on Senjutsu that I consider a song with good lyrics... It's so cryptic but without any meaning, or am I missing something? I don't think so, but I would really like to be proven wrong.
By the way, The Parchment is absolutely a top10 maybe even, and I really cannot believe that I'll say this - maybe even a top5 Iron Maiden song anyway. I swear. A fucking masterpiece.

It's just so goddamn heartfelt the way Bruce delivers those lyrics and how they perfectly compliment the triumphant yet melancholy nature of the music, then you have those kickass last two minutes that feel so bloody cathartic. I'm brazilian and I had the privilege of attending to Rock in Rio concerts and other gigs in Curitiba, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro. Looking forward to next year's Rock in Rio edition. I love the band ever since I reached their first song, back in my childhood days. I speak english because of their influence, I traveled to London to visit Cart and Horses iconic pub, where the band started, decades ago. I even watched a Premier League game, being a football fan (brazilian, right?), and of course it had to be a West Ham game. This song is just emotive. I love the flow, it shows how mature these guys are. There's no hurry, no need to pleasant anyone, but a natural and amazing work. I just wanna thank Steve Harris for both this song and the entire career of the best heavy metal band that ever walked on this planet. I owe you a whole bunch of vivid moments, a lifelong happiness and joy. See you next year in Brazil, once again. Up the Irons!

The fact that there are so many people around the world sharing their thoughts in so many languages speaks to the immortality of Maiden's music. Stories of sacrifice, freedom, war and bravery cross all cultures. Love it! For those that want to pick out that it could have been mixed differently or the songs could have been trimmed, I ask- what the fuck better do you have to do with your time?

When the moon will rise again
Until we read the Parthian skin
Broken fears, warring days are here again
'Fore we all to dust descend
Heaven knows when life will end
God to know in the mire, put out the fire
Know there is a cross to bear
In your primal quest of fear
No quarter, now is given no less
    Aslumber was my main ideal
    Asunder did my spirit steal
Sceptred race uttered words in disgrace
    Sweet revenge will be ours
    Vengeance of a shaken world
Just remember that patience is no sin
    And to find another way
    Live to breathe another day
Lord of light in the darkness, our guide
    In a tempest never shaken
Edge of doom is not mistaken
    Countenance is not a sin
Gallant king, we bow to him
Fierce as wolf with a leopard skin
    Dark and bitter, deep within
    Invader punished with his life
    Vanquished in the morning
Sea of blood in light divine
    Unholy reverence enjoyed
    Intoxicated with their hell
    Man immortal sickness dwell
    Savage beasts troops engage
    Assembled here to butcher blades
Smoke has darkened in the air
Smell of death and deep despair
    Wilderness, a tyrant dream
Sell your soul, not give them power
    Slay upon imperial crown
    Witness now the witching hour
Bound himself to oath and king
    Such loyalty, a shameless thing
    Youth of agony still burn
    Shedding parents blood
Never say a prayer to me
    For this crime, treachery
Drinking from your cup of wisdom true
    Many men will follow you
    Now an army is raised
And our Gods, they be praised
Death is but a gilted edge
Shall no more than we will pledge
    Hear the cry
    We are ready to believe
    The prodigal has returned
    Give us our own revenge
    With the power he learned
We will burn the same again
A betrayal of angels in a foreign land
A revenge for the merciful destiny at hand
For all those who have written in the sand will be told
    That the same will happen
    Searching for gold
Like a fire in the sky
    I can feel strength return
    Heading for afterlife
    Meet me there

I've got to say I've been a massive Maiden fan for about 25 years now and this song is simply their masterpiece. It's not the kind of the song you can play to someone who is new to the band and expect them to like it. This song is a journey, and it perfectly reflects my journey I've had with Maiden. Its just simply an absolute masterpiece

'Arry's hidden gem on the album. As I said, Hell on Earth is the best song because it wraps up the album nicely. The lyrics "on the graves that bled for us" and "coming for us" call back to the lyrics of Senjutsu, the opener. This was done on purpose. If it weren't for that, this is the closer of a monster album.....and what a song!!!!!! Good gravy. Up the irons!!!!!

I've been a rock and metal fan since I was a young kid in the 70's. I'm ashamed to say that I passed Iron Maiden over from about 1982 because I thought other bands were better. It took well into the 2010's before I gave them a serious listen. I quickly found that I had been a raving idiot for most of my life. So many years wasted when I could have been enjoying this music. I've tried to isolate why I never enjoyed the songs even though I heard many of them over the years and can't understand why I never understood their music. I still don't know why I missed their talent for so long. At least I eventually realised what I was missing.

I don't know why but Iron Maiden has this way of making their longer songs feel like 2 to 3 minutes long when they are from 10 to 18 minutes! Legends! Up the irons!

I know people dont talk of it as much but it's like dance of death but how you imagine it would be if it matured 20 years.. songs like passchendaele etc seem like the origin for this beautiful progressive yet still maiden sounding album!

I'm hearing a lot of "To Tame A Land, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Fear of the Dark, Powerslave, The Nomad, The Talisman" and a little "Alexander the Great," and possibly some influences from the guitar solos in the song "Killers." And I'm not saying the song sounds like those, but I am picking up on residue from those songs' guitar solos or the general theme of the song. A very epic song, particularly guitar-wise and lyrically...and Bruce sounds incredible.

I got this album a few days early on vinyl, after spending the mourning overlooking a river on the railway bridge in my town on magic mushrooms. I got a call from the record store that my order was in, so when I came back that afternoon I sat and listened through the album. I enjoyed every moment of it. But I remember hearing the intro to The Parchment and being immediately struck by the rhythmic bass and melodic acoustic guitar, and having the main riff hit me like 18 wheel truck, and then spending the whole song in awe. One thing that worried me was thinking "How can they close the album after THIS?" and then... Hell On Earth. The beautiful acoustic intro allowed for a pallet cleanser from The Parchment set the mood for the track, and once again the opening riff blew me away, and the guitars playing what I soon found out was the lyrical melody entranced my and nearly brought me to tears. And of course, Bruce did not disappoint, bringing out every ounce of emotion Steve put into writing it. This whole album NEEDS to be a live setlist after they finish Legacy. The Parchment is the hypnotic track with the massive intense solos, that I think would rival the live rendition of The Red And The Black, and Hell On Earth is with every note, a victorious encore. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
