  • The Red Pyramid of Dashur is Ancient Egypt's third largest pyramid - only slightly less massive than the middle pyramid at Giza. According to mainstream history, it was built by Pharoah Sneferu, the father of Khufu, who not only built this, but two more of the mightiest pyramids of the Old Kingdom, the Bent and Meydum pyramids.
    Just how many huge pyramid 'tombs' does one ruler need?
    Join me as we explore the enigmatic Red Pyramid, with a full private walk through of it's chambers, and glimpse into the many unknowns about the true history of this remarkable ancient monument.

    Thank you so very much for taking the camera there, for letting the guides ask the interesting questions, highlighting important aspects!
    Where before we would've never had a slightest chance of knowing that such questions exist, or seeing footage of inconvenient for archaeologists places, today, thanks to you and other curious researchers, we have footage that is better than Discovery channel or History channel, footage that is not aimed at the lowest common denominator of human population, but footage intelligent, with many details, with high resolution shots of the most exciting spots. Thanks to you and the way you make your videos in the most respectful manner to the viewers, we can see the places with our own eyes, and make our own guesses, not being annoyingly pushed in the dogmatic direction and being starved of even seeing anything of interest up close.

    I have been working on ideas of anomalies in the historical record. A simple concept, let's not try and propose 'a theory', let's just look at clear anomalies. The question I have been asking as an historian is; "Can an historian question established historical narratives?" I am not at all a conspiracy theorist and am a big supporter of Ben because his main thrust is to call for research, real, scientific research. Who can object to that if they are an academic intellectual? However, if you know anything about the academy, as Ben does and as I do from my undergraduate days at the Oriental Studies Faculty at Cambridge and post-graduate time at Ruskin College, Oxford, then you know that peer review is a political structure.

    • @FreeSpeechXtremist
      @FreeSpeechXtremist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Peer review is a badly broken tool that has stood to make science even more dogmatic than it was in the days of religious education.
      This drove me away from science when I was in education but I believed that it was only students who were unable to question dogma. Since then it has become very clear to me that limiting critical thinking is a problem right across the profession of science not just in student research.

    • @jasoncox7257
      @jasoncox7257 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Its not a crime against sanity to be a conspiracy theorist. Winston Churchill was one , he thought the Nazis were up to no good. The people that caught Guy Fawkes were conspiracy theorists. I'm not sure why vocabulary is being warped. As far as correctness it is a neutral term, it does not mean automatically mean incorrect. I sure you've been a conspiracy theorist at least once in your life.

    • @PebbleStudio
      @PebbleStudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@FreeSpeechXtremist I would argue that the problem is now societal. I have just had a warning from TH-cam and one of my videos removed because of a claim against it of 'hate speech'. The subject of the video was whether an historian can question an official, received history. In order to put that proposition together, I merely identified clear anomalies in the official history. I stated clearly that I was not disputing the official history nor was I proposing 'another history or other theory', all I was engaging in was a methodological process of looking for anomalies. Now I would not know how to write hate speech if I sat down and spent a week trying. I am married to an Asian woman, I have worked in human rights and been invited to speak at a U.N. conference on my work and am a calm, patient individual who likes reading books and writing history. I checked my video, absolutely no evidence of hate speech whatsoever. I asked a colleague to look at it and he was totally bemused. I appealed (to the bot, obviously) and asked to be supplied with what the 'hate speech' actually was in the content. Within 15 minutes my appeal was rejected and the claim of 'hate speech' upheld and a warning issued against my channel that all of my work will be removed if I repeated the offence. No evidence provided, no identification of who made the claim, just a kangaroo court and a threat to lose all of my work if I repeat an offence which I am unable to identify. Really, you cannot make this up. A video questioning whether an historian still possesses the ability in our current society to question historical narratives is removed as hate speech. No my friend, the problem with critical discourse has spread far from the campus.

    • @PebbleStudio
      @PebbleStudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jasoncox7257 Actually Jason, I agree with what you are saying here. However, my purpose was much more focused than this general, but very good, point. I was criticising a received history which is plagued with people making up all sorts of theories and the official received history being strongly defended by labelling all criticism as 'conspiracy theory'. In order to avoid this trap, I specifically did not engage in 'conspiracy theory' but proposed a methodological analysis based on identifying anomalies. No critique of the official narrative, no proposition of an alternate theory, merely asking if it is possible to identify anomalies in the received version of that history. I am sure that you see my point here. Like you, the use of the term 'conspiracy theory' as a pejorative really concerns me. Where I am at, as an historian, is that I no longer place much store in the bulk of our received histories. Certainly, Ben's work just supports that view. Again, what I really like about Ben is his call for professional, in-depth scientific study. That's what I call academic. Strange though isn't it, our really contentious histories all seem to be the ones in which further in-depth scientific study is discouraged if not actually banned. My own conclusion is that most of history is a mythology.

    Great job, you're doing the world a favor with your work. I had never spent that much time on the bent pyramid, but what you show us here belies the simple fact that an advanced civilization was busy at work. At 11:58 where we see the chamber and once again the finely honed granite stones put in place, no one in the world is going to make me believe that chariot-era technology could have done such fine work. Ditto with placing huge stones and cutting through passageways. We have to one day realize that like the discovery in 1964 of laser-assisted surveying tools, that only from 1964 could someone have built The Great Pyramid of Giza. It's coming. The day when how to make megalithic stone work is discovered and then and only then will we be able to understand how they did it. These structures were here when the ancient Egyptians came on the scene. They inspired them to become the great people they are known to be, but we have to realize that somewhere there is going to be a discovery of a library or some sort of engravings which will be the voice of the ancients and it will then be known how tube drills, massive stone work, lifting of 100 ton blocks was done.

    On your recommendation I rented today BAM. Wow! It's really done much better than The Revelations of the Pyraminds which looks dated compared to BAM. I'm considering purchasing BAM instead of just renting it.
    I'm looking forward for what you put together after your trip in October.
    I was fortunate to go to Israel & Egypt back in 1985. But probably didn't understand the truly amazing stuff I was seeing. At that time I just bought the story that the guides were telling us. No one ever pointed out drilling holes or things like that. No one even caused me to think how these things were possibly made.
    After watching more than a few of your videos (and others) but I find your videos to be more accurate and less BS. Plus you keep asking us to question what we are seeing and question the stories we've been told.
    And more importantly to use your common sense!

    I so much enjoyed this over the "Live Stream" you did a few weeks earlier about Exploring the Great Pyramid; that episode was definitely more chaotic and not as simple for a "Simpleton" such as myself to learn from, compared to this lesson about The Sneferu Three!

    It is so good to have this video, and your other videos, to refer to. Thanks! I was just there in Dec. 2021, and watching your video, it brings it back to me the things that I saw, but I have no guide, like Yousef to explain what I am seeing. The magnificent stones and the construction, yes they are obvious. But when you get to the top of those wood stairs and see the destroyed chamber, I had no clue what was going on there. The way Yousef explained it makes a lot of sense, that they were maybe trying to find treasure. Asking questions. Getting more questions!

    Hey Ben, have you ever asked Youssef, if he has a grand theory or hypothesis of sorts, in regards to the entire mystery? I always feel like there's a lot more that he wants to say, but he holds back, and surely someone of his calibre has already formulated a grand theory of his own, and whether it be right or wrong, it would be great to hear.

      The grand theory is that modern Egyptology has explained all of this and thousands of people have spent their lives studying it over the past 200 years. To think an armchair Australian with a guy making a fortune off tours have uncovered some truth everybody else has mysteriously missed is rather unlikely don’t you think

    • @ineffable0ne
      @ineffable0ne ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@richardramirez2557 Egyptology has made up some nice stories, which sound convincing if you don't think too hard. All Ben is doing is (actually getting *out* of the armchair) pointing to evidence that brings that story's accuracy into question.

    Truly fascinating and wonderful to have Yusuf's music adding to the authenticity of the claustrophobic atmosphere inside the pyramid - even though those chambers soar to impossible heights! Why?! But, Ben, did you notice climbing to the entrance just how incredibly weathered those stones are - surely they wouldn't have built with them like that? The other thing I wonder about, & it was interesting when Yusuf mentioned the 'smell', is just what does it FEEL like in there? I don't know if you ever go places that give you the creeps, or seem incredibly energetic - do all the Pyramids 'feel' the same or is each unique? I'd love to hear you tell us how the structures affect you... Keep safe & enjoy your geology field trip!

    I think it makes the bent pyramid more difficult to rob or to break into. There is probably much more weight and pressure on the casing stones in the steep part, and someone might have tried to remove stones in the corner causing the whole thing to collapse. With the Giza pyramids many casing stones are gone and the entrance is visible with the rest of the structure intact, making it much easier to enter or to rob the stones.

    Notice how those lines of discoloration begin a few inches from the ledge, but aren't on the actual underside or in the corner? It's a pretty common sight in caves too. Why would something leeching out of a stone or between mating surfaces not leech out in those areas? A quick observation of bats urinating and the length between the origin of that pee and the ledge they're holding onto solves that question.
