  • For new family doctors in Ontario planning to join a FHN/FHO practice and are starting to roster patients from scratch, the Income Stabilization (IS) and New Grad Entry Program (NGEP) are two programs that provide a guaranteed income as new doctors are building up their patient rosters. But is it worth it to join these programs or are you signing up for a restrictive contract?
In Part 3 of the Family Medicine Billing Made Simple lectures, we talk about the IS and NGEP and what new grads should be watching out for.

Thank you for covering these programs! OMH is hiding info on outdate website with their smallest T&C font ever 😁 What I still cannot comprehend - where is the advantage of IS? (forget NGEP - it looks as a bureaucratic blurb) Lets say I inherit the roster from a retired FP, why would should I be interested to join IS at all? With 825 roster you can work 2.5 days for more money compare with 1FT at IS...

Hey, if you inherit the roster from a retired FP you would NOT be eligible for Income Stabilization. It is only for family doctors who want to start their practice from scratch. It can be advantageous if you're starting out with 0 patients and therefore not making any capitation, so IS provides you with a guaranteed income each month until you reach around 825 patients in which case you can switch out of IS and onto regular capitation.

Would the amount that I got from income stabilization be deducted later on ?
    Thanks

No it should not be. Once you transition to FHO practice the payment model changes and no deductions are taken from when you are on IS.
