    Super interesting, thank you. I've watched this as someone living in BC and believe in this province there were changes to the family act in 2013 that enable division of property in common law relationships, meaning you do need a cohabitation agreement to steer clear of this. At least that's my understanding. I would really really stress that this advice is province-specific to Ontario.

    This is a great Video and Advice. Couple of questions if you can please assist with: Wife makes 100k/Year T4 Full Time Employee Husband Makes 200k/Year T4 Full Time Employee as well. If husband employees wife for lets say 40k/year. What will be the tax savings for this? There is no corporation no business and what are the other ways other than employing the partner for income splitting? Both are 35 years old no Kid Can it be done for previous years? Considering Spousal RRSP or Investment Loan is not an option. Will really appreciate your response on this. And also How can this be done what are the formalities needed to be done for this? Thanks in advance

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would definitely check with an accountant about this if not income splitting through a spousal RRSP. What will your wife be doing if she's employed by you for $40K/year if there's no business? If there was a sole proprietorship or side business outside of your salaried job, you might employ your wife as a contractor....but if you get audited, you have to have justification for the pay to your wife.

It was at a rate lower than the regular price. For example- Bus pass in HRM was 82.5 a month. But I paid around 190 dollars for 8 the 8 month period when I was a student.

      Hey, there used to be a public transit tax credit but it was eliminated based on Budget 2017 (Source: www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/programs/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/federal-government-budgets/budget-2017-building-a-strong-middle-class/public-transit-tax-credit.html). I would check with your accountant as transportation costs from home to work wouldn't count but from workplace 1 to workplace 2 can be tax deductible.

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Welcome to Ontario! For M&G there are 2 codes I’ve seen being billed: A007 or K131 (or any of the preventative visit billing codes). Usually I will discuss the clinic policies, hours and fill in the CPP. Sometimes if the patient has a fairly extensive history and I end up taking a past med hx, social hx and do a comprehensive physical exam, I will bill a K131/2 + Q200 to roster them.

    • @pardogg
      @pardogg หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BreakingBadDebt, I'm very grateful for your reply. Do you also see the K013 item number used for meet-and-greets? I note these require a diagnostic code, so I wonder how much time must go into specific health education as opposed to clinic policy, my background, and how I practice medicine, so I could justify the billing.

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pardogg Hey, I personally don't bill K013 for M&Gs because you're only limited to 3 of these / pt/year so I prefer to save them for when I actually need to counsel the pt on something. As you identified, the K013 is a counselling code for a pre-booked appt where the reason for counselling is identified with the booking (i.e. a prebooked appt to talk about obesity).

    Can you guys do a video on high yield CC ETF's? Many of us might be in the same boat, where we have worked hard, saved money, and now have considerable capital that we plan to use to retire on and are looking for investment vehicles to park that money in. In comes high yield CC ETF's (covered call) from the likes of Hamilton, Horizon, Harvest etc. With many of them paying yields north of 12% (some higher than 16%) they seem too good to be true. I understand that one of the reasons they can pay such high distributions is b/c of the options writing strategies they use to generate income, but still it seems too good to be true.

    Thank you for this Dr. Steph. I got extremely emotional while processing your prescription for powerful women. I'm' finding it challenging to navigate the unique health challenges/circumstances that you had highlighted. I have such conviction to put myself first, but at times the unique challenges you stated really impede my ability . You really helped me to understand to forgive myself for not feeling adequate or feeling like it's my fault for my circumstances, and believing the lie that there is no solution or resource. I'm grateful to TH-cam. I'm grateful to you. I'm grateful to my mind to arrive at consuming this content. How can I help myself to not lose sight? Do you have any process steps, or resources, or even a toolkit on how to navigate the supports for women. It's as if I need a navigator of some sort, but it's so taxing to find the right solutions when seeking a suitable practitioner that can work with such unique challenges. I'm writing this to also ask for any insights, or even if there is a way to connect with you for a brief time to ask you some questions, I'd really appreciate it. I may try to also reach out via LinkedIn. Thank you for your uploads and channel.

    can we claim that education fee tax credits as a deposit to our bank account

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The tax credits don't get deposited to your bank account, it will be used to reduce the overall taxes you owe. If they don't get used up they get carried forward to a following year when you do owe taxes.

    So what the fuck exactly do we put on line 5 of TD1. You keep mentioning the mistake of putting total tax credit, so what exactly we need to put there. Like the tuition we paid for the terms of completed year? Or the tuition of the term we are studying currently??

      Hey Kolia, on 7:02 of the video I said that you would put the tuition of the current year (2024) on that line if you're currently in school. So for example if you started fall term in Sept 2023 - Dec 2023 and paid tuition, then you are in winter term Jan 2024 - Apr 2024, you would put the tuition you paid in 2024 (Jan - Dec 2024). It doesn't have to be exact as you don't know your Fall 2024 tuition yet but an estimate will do. Hope this clarifies!

    I have a child that is a student that is in university and we sometimes help with her 'rent'. The question 'what is your principal address on December 31 2023' had made a mess of the income tax last year as we have completed that with her 'home' address, (parents address qualifies for the northern Ontario energy credit. She has not return "home" over the summer months as she now has a part time job there. She tried to change her address with CRA, in her first year, but they then froze her 'account' and it took some time to have access back. That person told her not to as she was a 'student' in university. So I guess the question is, what do you enter for your address - your home, where your parents are or home, where she lives for school?

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not an accountant so I would definitely check on this with an accountant or call CRA to double check. What I personally did when I was a student: I used the address where I could check the mailbox regularly for tax slips/other mail. This is because the tax slips often includes personal information like your SIN - so if you put a rental or student residence and you move out but the tax slips got mailed there or you didn't change your address with the CRA, you could either miss it or worse, someone else can open your mail and know your SIN. Based on this article, it is easy to change your address if you move using the CRA My Account: www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/news/newsroom/tax-tips/tax-tips-2017/students-taxes-what-to-know.html

      Hey, this is what the CRA says about how to do that “The student will complete and sign the transfer section of their tax certificate and provide the recipient of the transfer with a copy. The spouse or common-law partner would enter this amount in field 36000 of Schedule 2 and report this amount on line 32600 of their Income Tax and Benefit Return.” Source: www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/line-32400-tuition-education-textbook-amounts-transferred-a-child.html

    Can a person go bankrupt on their student loans? And what happens if a person doesn't pay back their loans?

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, in Ontario you can only declare bankruptcy on your loans if you meet certain criteria: you have to be out of school for at least 7 years, or if you've been out of school for less than 7 years but more than 5, you can apply to the Court under hardship provisions.
