Damn! That was some competition, Terminator 2, Boyz N the hood, point break and naked gun playing at once. Miss the good old days of great movies
Right? A movie for every day of the week
And The Lost boys great movie
Wow good memories
@@joelopez198 yea i your right ...that one to
All good movies
John Singleton was 23 when he made this movie. Unbelievable. Rest In Power.
there is no power in death. Peace is all one can hope for.
@@pumasgoya That sounded really cool in your head, I bet.
@@Oliverklozov13 😭😭😭
It’s crazy how he’s my cousin
Un fucking believable
Another personal one for me. From 3rd grade to 7th grade John Singleton was one of my best friends. We went to Woodworth Elem that you show in one of the first scenes. I could show you where he signed my 7th grade year book. Dude was the coolest. I found out later everybody knew John. When the movie first was announced I called the studio and left a message and within an hour he called me back.
Did you know lloyd avery too?
The alley scene being gated off today is such a surreal sight.
The alley scene when Ricky got shot was such an emotional scene. Even though it was a movie, you definitely felt for Rickys character who was such a bright young man in the movie. Morris Chestnut played the Ricky role perfectly
Why did they gate the alley??
@@atribecalledlen3567 Probably too many 'R.I.P. RICKY' vigils, 😂😂. Respect to L.A. from STL.
@@atribecalledlen3567 because people dump trash and old furniture in them.
@@atribecalledlen3567 because it's a crime scene, some dude named Ricky got shot there.
Look at that lineup! Boyz in the Hood, T2, Point Break. The 80s - 90s were the best film period ever. A few sprinkled in during the 2000s.
Seriously. I would have been at that cinema plex all day watching those great movies.
Nostalgia. 20 years from now grown up kids are going to be saying John wick, fast and the furious, saw...blah blah blah man those were the good times
Yeah it was, you can tell by how they are trying to capture it again with all the remakes and spinoffs which usually fail or fall short to capture the magic.
@@anon2414 Except those werent good movies
@@20FilmChick are you really going to say movies were not good... movies are subjective dude 😂😂. . All the movies I named I think are good and a lot of other people think are good... Everyone I know loves John wick and fast and the furious. Name some movies you like I bet I won't like them lol
That funeral home where Tray and Ricky got pulled over by cop is the funeral home they had Nipsey Hussle funeral service
Oh wow
Some of the Movie was Filmed in the 60s Neighborhood which is Nip and 60 crips Neighborhood
Wow...
I thought nipseys was at staples center ?
@@rayman1269 the memorial was... Not the actual funeral.
Thank you for doing this, I have so many memories watching boyz n the Hood as a 10 year old kid. Now I'm 41 and I still watch it like I never seen it before.
Thank you for watching
Real respect for you taking the time to cover the late John Singleton’s masterpiece. At the time it was shocking and powerful inner city life, in the notorious South Central made popular by hip-hop music in the early 90s. Realised in a imaginative filming by John. A still missed director
It was my pleasure. Thank you for watching
“To get with the program” 😂😂😂😂
What a legendary movie. RIP John Singleton 🕊
I love seeing now and then pictures of old locations. Nostalgia
This was an excellent tutorial. Incorporating the movie scenes for reference was the best. I normally do not like people over-talking or talking too much in videos but you were a pleasure to listen to. The research and time you put into this are praiseworthy. Thanks for making it!!
Wow! Thank you very much. I really appreciate that
@@80sLife Listen: We all know what the truth is. Christianity is a mental health crisis. It’s a creepy social clique pretending not to be one. People are expected to side against honesty to get laid. It’s a head game that needs to end for good. It creates violence and mental illness in people. Religious people (all religions) celebrate authoritarianism, tribal beliefs, violence, materialistic thinking, and conformity. There is no love in religion. Stop blaming/fearing schizophrenia, and start focusing on meditation and telepathy. Get real. We are spiritual beings. Religion doesn’t promote spirituality. It sides against it to promote “alpha”. There are no alphas. There are men and women that refuse to focus on love. These human beings never evolved over the generations, or in the present moment, and they have no humanitarian ideas within. Others already have evolved socially. These individuals are psychic mediums with very open minds and developed personalities that practice social equality (non-violence). Anyone that focuses on social equality and non-violence (honesty) all across the board in all ways can never be a Christian. Religion is a head game to control women socially. Authoritarian (violent) men want women to feel inferior in the mind. This is jealousy, and it is unfair and unethical. Violence, anger, and aggression towards women doesn’t look good, so it is hidden behind an image of social Godliness. See Christianity and other religions for what they really are, and let them die out. End lying for good.
6:50 Dope Kobe mural...and yes one of the best movies of all time.
Agree and both
Damn this was nostalgic asf, kind of rough to watch. Saw this with my little bro, he passed away in 2017, may he always RIP🙏
What a film. Damn it’s so sad to see our 90s era bull dozed our era will never be beaten!!!! God love the 90s
Yeah, them riots was fire! Literally lit!
Bruh they changed it for the better. People always complained that nobody cared and shit was never gonna change. And now they actually listened and completely changed that horrible 80s/90s period into a way more decent neighborhood and yall complain that you miss it? You miss the dirty alleys, the crack and the driveby’s?
@@Bradchoksondik It was better in the 80s and 90s, I hope you realize that
@@reflux1059 What? No way
@@Bradchoksondik Well while there may have been more crime at least the 80s and 90s had soul now it’s just boring as FUCK

Thanks a lot to showed us the locations of this classic film, keep it up, next time it would be good to see the "Menace To Society" spots.
Very good work brother!

Shotout from Argentina 💎🔥💣
Thank you so much! My wife is from Argentina
At 5:10 I lived in that house from 1994-2005 during my childhood. I didn’t know about the movie until later someone told me they had filmed a movie there.
Thank you for walking us down memory lane, this was awesome!
Great moive, ur channel makes me wanna visit CA just to see all the stuff you film.
That's awesome. Thank you!
Be careful. California ain't all surfing son.
Yeah just cause u see it on video dont mean u can just walk around like that lmao Cali isn't all suburbs.

Menace II Society next
Yes
Down the line, yes
Or “The Wood”

Its crazy how I walk past these monuments damn near everyday
Shit, I used to live near where a lot of these monuments or locations for Boyz n the Hood is or was. I moved up out of the Crenshaw area because there's more to life and LA than South Central.
So are these areas really “hoods”/dangerous areas like how shown in the movie?
@@JavedKhan-iq3zs it look way safer now and cleaner that’s crazy
@@terrio0035 it's still very active area just cuz there's not a baby in the middle of the street this ain't the movies - it's in R60s territory and blocks away from their enemy hoods VGB and HPB
Yes indeed! Excellent job on the video and the details. My friend was in San Pedro for the two shots. He told us before the movie came out that Ice Cube was filming a movie by his school. Can't wait to see more....😀
Thank you!!
Damn. There were some BADASS movies in theaters at the same time back then! Even the Rocketeer. I loved that movie as a kid. It still kinda holds up. But Point Break and T2 were the bomb.
I got goosebumps & a good flashback. I was in my 20's then.. Huge Ice Cube & Nia Long fan!!Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you for watching
I totally forgot Regina King was in this movie! I’m glad she got a little shout out in the end shot! Thanks as always for your hard work!
She's so great. Thank you!!
@@80sLife If you look closely, Regina King drives down the block where Trey and Doughboy lived in her new Cadillac commercial. Check it out!!!
A powerful movie back in 1991
@@aaronsmith328: Wow, that is very interesting! I wonder if it’s on yt, I will have to check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
@@RoyAH. Yeah, it's there. You'll see what I'm talking about. It all ties together when you listen to the voiceover.
I’ve been interested/intrigued in west coast urban culture, actually the culture in general in every location. But really love west coast. I was born in 92 and I didn’t see this until like 1998I saw this and menace II society the same night with my cousins and instantly was so amazed and sparked something in me. After watching these my first album I bought with my own money was Straight outta Compton.
Anyways said all that to say I watch this movie atleast 4 times a year. Everything still stands today and is still relevant.
It's so crazy how much has changed in 30 years! I say the same about my old neck of the woods things are so different! I'm from Ft Worth TX and to drive down the places I grew up their almost unrecognizable
I love the way he's telling the story like it's a real life situation I wish I could see the backyard to see if it looks the same
i think if he had asked they would've said yes
Thank you John Singleton. R.I.P. King
😢😔🪦💐
Crenshaw used to be hella fun back in them days.
Yeah 💥🤘🏾😂
FACTS
u from there?
@@inthahous87 No. I'm form Pomona Cali about half an hour away... As a youngster i see the older fellas in my neighborhood gas up and carrovan to the Shaw on Sundays and when it was our turn we washed up and gassed up Regals Camaros and a Grand National and would roll out. And on them 3 day weekends, you would get neighborhoods from as far as DayGo on the Shaw... Esse on the east side of the street - the Brothas on the west side of the street. Friendly curvy ladies from the 10 freeway all the way down to Inglewood. Maaaan that shit was fun....
Till you got shot or robbed lol
Once you mentioned the part about the alley this video felt eerie all of a sudden lol but still good
I'm telling you.. it was eerie being there looking down the alley
Boys N the Hood was a classic 😎👍. Awesome job on the video.

Thank you for watching
I am so glad I found this channel. I'm totally an '80s baby and I love everything 1980s the best decade ever!! New subscriber! 🙂
Thank you so much
Where you from shawty
The two pieces of dialog I always have remembered were from Furious one being when he is talking to Tre about raking leaves and trying to teach him a work ethic along with the paying bills and clothes on his back line! The other is the speech about gentrification, liquor stores & gun shops being on every corner in certain communities yet not in others where wealthy people live!
Gentrification. The movie was telling the future
What I say yup 👍
That area is still majority black.
Luckily it changed for the better tho.
@George Jackson probably due to social organizations and the government finally starting to care and invest in the neighborhood. They got many organizations working to prevent the lost youth from joining gangs. They change the names to get rid of the old negative reputation and they clean up the streets and rebuild the area so it doesn’t look so run down and ghetto.
@George Jackson yeah but its more than just that. They changed the whole image and literally the looks of South (not central anymore) LA.
A TRUE classic thanks for the video AWESOME VIDEO MAN GOD BLESS
Thank you!
THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST FILMING LOCATIONS VIDEOS I’VE EVER SEEN!
Thank you so much for that!!
The liquor store that tre goes to before he gets shot is still there. The little shop you showed is on the corner of slauson ave and 8th ave and the actual liquor store is about 2-3 blocks away on the corner of 60th st and 8th ave. I used to live in the area and would always go to that particular store.. I love all your videos btw.
Yes, I addressed this in the comments and I noted it in the video description. I'll be making a video soon to fix my mistake. I'm so embarrassed. Thank you for watching my videos, I really appreciate it.
@@80sLife I just commented on this as well, until I saw this comment.
Yeah , my cousin lives close to the liquor
Yes.. just seeing there pictures is like a walk back in time..the movie was so well put together..it didn't look like acting..
My sister bought a car from that dealership back in 1992. It was an Oldsmobile Delta 88. Those neighborhoods have changed so much.
Dope video! "Rickyyyy!" My soon to be 20 year old son loves saying that 🤦🏽♀️ anyway, I ran into John Singleton at a restaurant here in Vegas in 2014. Rest in peace legend!
Thank you for watching!
8:46 Unless they have recently removed “half of the store” this is the incorrect store. Nipsey Hussle took a camera crew to the store in question on one of his Complex or Vice interviews. The one Nipsey went to looked exactly like the store in the movie 🍿
*Update* Just watched your follow up video. You nailed it.
My brother in law turned me on to this movie when i was real young, been one of my favorites ever since! Love these style videos!
DannyDanko man, i still remember when my brother showed me this movie at our dads house 👍🏼💯
I saw the movie the day it came out in Atl.....all the seats and some standing. When the movie was over, you could hear a pin drop it was silent!
As I stipulated in your Wayne's World episode, I am from Inglewood. The reason Lawrence street doesn't exist is because they expanded the giant plaza there now, most of it didn't exist at the time. Matter of fact, on the other side of Century Blvd directly across the street where the Target and the Home Depot are now, was the old Hollywood Park racetrack and golf course, although the casino still stands.
Moreover, the neighborhood was renamed "The Village". The old name, Darby-Dixon was scraped due to it being synonymous with gangs, and crime.
Loved the video!
You and I are on the same wavelength! We love the same movies and I love your vids. Keep em coming
Thank you so much!
Wow bro. I love your Channel.
Never seen a channel quite like it. I like how you compare the movie locations before and after.

The dude that Took the chain had a shirt that said “we want Eazy” one of my fav songs
its a direct diss from ice cube. crack head wearing the Eazy t-shirt

Real thankful for the all the efforts and the hard work behind the scenes of this video! Also this movie was, is and will remain a timeless hood classic forever!🙌🌟💯
Boyz N the Hood is such a good movie. I remember back in the day I watched this and my mom was watching it with me. To my surprise she was extremely impressed with the movie. I figured she’d think it was just violence and crime.
What a legendary list of movies you have covered
This was nostalgic, imagine living in those houses!! Legendary stuff great video ❤️
I watched this movie so many times over the years, it's definitely one of my favorites.
I live in NY, so the chance of seeing any of these locations in person is small, thanks for this video!
The only time I got to visit LA, my wife and I went to Terettos house and the market from The Fast and Furious.
Hopefully we can explore more during the next visit.
Fantastic work Kurt, I know these locations can't be easy to find and shoot the way you do it.

Brings back memories. I went to woodworth. That neighborhood was so bad growing up. Im sure the drive bys and dead bodies are what desensitized me. I drove through there and it still looks like a bad place to live.
This is cool how you managed to find all of these locations and show us this. Great video

I love these filming location videos and your SFV tours ( where you sneak in filming locations ) . looking forward to your next upload....😁....
Truth is infinitely better than fiction. I fail to recall the widespread violence you referenced which was taking place after the movie’s release. As a young man at that time, I recalled widespread responses of sadness at the violence portrayed in the movie, not outside any movie house!!!

I lived on Cimarron Ave right down from Tre's house from 2002 to 2008. I lived in that house that had the tall palm tree in the front yard..
That's cool. Did you see alot of people coming to check out the houses?
From the time I lived there approximately 8 or 9 times I saw people taking pictures.
That street looks wide in the film, but it’s actually really narrow. LOL!!
