I feel like Swann needs to start paying YOU. I've seen a couple of your other videos and this is another job well done. Very informative and it's much appreciated. I feel like lack of details is where a lot of other videos/reviews go wrong. As a matter of fact, you should just start doing reviews on various eletronics.
+Ryan Schlader Thank you, the nice words mean a lot. Believe it or not, I felt other videos I learned absolutely nothing. I found it very frustrating. So, that's the whole reason I started doing them. I wanted people watching my videos feeling confident afterwards. Felling like they could do it or are now knowledgeable about the product. I do reviews of stuff I buy.......when I have time. I wish they paid me some cash too. :)
New Subscriber. I've had my system in a box for awhile. This video is the exact push I need to go get up off my a$$ and install it. Lots of information, very detailed. Thank you for creating and sharing.
I installed this for a customer on a 4MP with sound PoE.. WARINING! If you install conduit (pipe, protect the wire from physical damage and weather) you will get video surveillance but NOT sound... I installed 4, out of the 4 one of them was not installed with conduit and it worked with video surveillance & sound.. The other 3 with conduit does not make sound but was able to watch your video surveillance.. I went to school learning low voltage and I did not pull to much stress on the RJ-45 cable or exceed 25 lbs on the pull.. I called Swann and they did a great job helping me and the customer, but there was no solution to fix the 3 with sound.. Swann placed us on hold and hung up assuming there is no solution.. Overall the customer was happy with the cameras and she was able to live the unfortunate without sound..Installed back in early 2017..
Oh wow. I just finished watching and commenting on your 5mp setup. 😂 now your got 4k? !!! I'm jelly haha Yet again, another very informative review. Bravo sir. One question though. How much light does the infrared give off? Or are they those invisible black led?
locoboof thanks for the fast response, but I mean what would the "bad guy" see? How visible are the red lights during night time while you are looking at camera from the street facing your house? Thanks in advance. I want a "stealthy" system that's not visible from street. That's why I ask. 850nm is red glow, 920nm is the purple or ''invisible" glow
+Dub V you can see see the red light coming from the EXIR leds at night. I was 8ft away and could see it. It's not very noticeable unless you're looking for it
Hi There, great video. I notice you upgraded , but would it be to much to ask , what night settings you are using? Anything moving is so blurry and i cant recognise it , so frustrating. At this stage any help or suggestions would be great.
Great over view. where did you get the sound unit? I'm assuming once plunged into the NVR then the other end plugs into the Cat 5 cable going to the camera? In reviewing the manual and combining with your video things looked a lot clearer.
+Jim mclachlan the regular security camera mic doesn't work with this unfortunately. It will only work with a built in camera/mic combo. So no audio at this point. Waiting on the camera/mic release
Great thorough review! I'm very interested in this system. Do you know if the Hikvision firmware can be flashed on the NVR & cameras? They look exactly the same as DS-7608NI-I2/8P NVR & DS-2CD2085FWD-I camera. Hikvision has better firmware support and app.
Is it possible to access the NVR's hard drive though a home network? This would make it easier for video transfer and storage. And how long of a CAT #5 wire could you use with this system? I would like to place the camera at least 100 feet from the back of my house so i could get the best view of my yard. Love your vids. Very informative.
+chrisj2004 On two of my cameras I ran over 100ft, so you'll be fine. They come with 60ft ones though. You can't access it through a network, but you can run a USB extension and just plug in your thumb drive on the other end from the NVR. I'm using 35ft HDMI cables and USB extensions myself. My NVR is no where near my office where my monitor is. Thanks for watching!!
Can you hear the NVR at all? If it is in a quiet room is the exhaust fan loud and can you hear the hard drive spinning? Does it heat up? Any chance of them using a solid state drive in the future? TIA
I was trying to choose out of GW Security and Swanns 16ch 5mp setups and settled on Swann after watching a few of your videos. After checking a few forums I read you should try out the apps the systems use for mobile playback and now I'm scared to get the swann 7500 series 5mp setup after reading hundreds of complaints of app not able to play ( after recent update ) when away from home using the mobile apps...which app where you using for the 5mp and for the 4k in this vid? Which should I use for the 5mp 7500 series nvr?...GW is a lil more expensive and not as user friendly but it works! Plz reply...
Great video! But I wonder if you can get your notifications on the app with an alarm or something and not only through email? And can you start by buying 1 camera and the nvr box? Because I can’t afford buying all at once.
It’s only through email or you can google “email to text” and set that up. That was you get text messages. I believe you can buy the NVR and one camera separately. Not 100% sure on that though.
Great review which helped my decision making. I am still torn between the Pro and the Pro 2. But the fact that the Pro 2 lookback and motion zones is not available w/o the AC chargers plugged in is a major deciding factor for me. For pure wireless setups, the Pro 2 is not worth it in my opinion.
Great video! Thank you. I am looking for a camera system for my home for when I am renting it out when I am gone from it to detect activity outside. This system looks like you need a desk top computer and a system best for when you are occupying the premises. Am I right if I am thinking this system won't work well for my purposes?
This system is old. Might I recommend one of their newer 4K systems. Better resolution, built in two way audio, better notifications and so on. You don’t need a computer at all. You’d just need a tv or monitor to go through the initial setup process. Then, you can view everything right from your phone as long as the system is connected to the internet.
on the mobile app whats the highest resolution you can set the live view to, also, you mentioned it will make it slower? in what way....as in it will stream smoothly but just have a larger delay meaning not "live" as such OR it will cause the frames to become choppy and stuttery? Thanks.
First of all, if you’re considering one of their 4K systems I’d recommend one of their newer systems. It’s a lot better than this one. Push notifications and its feature rich. When you turn up the resolution on the app, there’s a delay. It’s like it’s too much data for it to smoothly display it. So it’s not smooth.... like stop and go.
+Karim Sumar On any other system EXCEPT this one, you'd need to run a rca for audio for the mic. This system is totally different. This one will only allow audio from a camera with a built in mic. But those have not been released yet. Once they do, I'll probably buy them. By the way....swann systems only allow 1 mic input. You can't have 4 cameras and 4 mics. You can only have 1 mic per system. The DVR/NVR only has 1 input for a mic. So....you'd normally run Ethernet for power and video and another RCA for the one mic. Except this system doesn't allow a mic via RCA only from a built in cam/mic combo
Hi, I've been looking at a number of systems and I was just wondering about the bandwidth of the Swann nvr. Is it possible to run 8 cameras all set at 4K quality??? Cheers
Great review. Made my purchase very hard. Finally went with Swann SWDVK-8HD5MP8-US 8 Channel 5MP Security System Kit with 2TB DVR Digital Video Recorder & 8x 5MP Surveillance Bullet Cameras I really wanted 4K Ultra HD NVR but could not bring myself to spend 2,400 for an 8 camera system. Thanks for the reviews. The true test of the system will be clarity on the night vision. I do have outside lighting that stays on all night. One think I would like to see is thermal detection vs motion detection? Glenn Lever
Whats the pros and cons or difference with dvr for 4k video footage? Im thinking about dvr 4k cameras bc its less expensive. Ia there any benefit to this system with dvr (night vision, app, clarity etc)
4K footage is 4X better resolution than 1080P. It’s clearer for sure. When zooming in or trying to read a license plate. Or trying to identify someone it makes a big difference b
Thank you for the video 2 questions ,can I install nvr system in my house without internet and rooter, also can I replace the hard drive if it become necessary
if you use line detection will the camera still pick up movement on the oppsett side of the line or would you have to uncheck the squares on the screen
Do you know if you can buy some type of adapter to use for video cable camera’s that aren’t swann cameras instead of the Ethernet camera that come with this nvr? I already have cameras up on my house but I like this system but the cameras dont have the Ethernet plugs.
I have two questions that may sound stupid (I know nothing about security systems). If there is a storm and knocks the power out at your home, I'm assuming your security system will not record anything, correct? Secondly, if you do have power at your home but you have connection problems with your home internet, will the security system still record? I ask these questions because I live in a rural area where the internet connection is poor/unreliable. Thanks, and great videos Iocoboof!
If there’s no power, nothing will record at all. If your internet goes down, every will still record, you just won’t get any email alerts on your phone. As well as no remote viewing from your smart phone either. It will record, but you can only see it locally.
I did have it hooked up to my tv, but it makes zero difference. It doesnt matter what night settings i use , its stuttery and choppy . Im curious as to how fast your internt speed is also , dont know if that makes a difference live viewing , but you never know. How is your NVR hooked up to your router ? Thanks again.
+wharfedale onkyo Maybe you've got a bad one? You see, even without internet it shows up crystal clear at my house. Internet is only for alerts or viewing your cams away from home. If you've got this 4K system and at home on your 1080P or 4K tv it's choppy....then something sounds wrong. I'd call their support and if that didn't work, I'd exchange it
locoboof , thanks I'll give it a go , but it's not the same system your using, it's the NVR 4-7400 , a step below yours, but still not great ,thanks for your help mate , cheers.
Jay Scott internet bandwidth is got nothing to do with your CCTV as this is recording locally on your NVR . When you try to access your stored footage remotely, you will need at least 2 Mbit transfer rate but the more you have the better ...
I am a non-tech person, so, is there any way to view their "set up" and operations manual on line? Are codes like the SMTP Server, SMTP PORT and UTD something that I would have to research on-line with my cable provider? Sorry for the dumb questions.
Not dumb, but all that info I put in my video if you have gmail. They only differ if you used yahoo or something and you’d just google those. Extremely easy.
@@locoboof Thanks. I use gmail also, so, great. I did a little more searching on line and saw/read the manual which appears to answer other questions I had on "set up" and operations.
Superb 10/10, Quality in 4K during the daylight it's like looking out of your window yourself. If you need to capture better video in dark times you are better having a movement sensor light with a timer to trigger a light covering the area you want, this is best watching the NRV while someone else keeps triggering movement sensor light, an LED light is the best to light up an area.Make sure no LED light shines/gets to the cameras lens as this would reduce video footage quality.
MP4 but you have to download their video player as well. It's the only way to play the file unless converted. The player download is on the nvr. It's easy
Can you really see License Plates? I don't know if I should get this or Lorex 4k. On a review for Lorex 4k he could not see License Plates 60ft away, but I think he was on a 1080P monitor. 🤔
How do you set up so you can view cameras through mobile data not wifi on same network. Mine will not connect if I’m away from my house. Do you have a link to this type of video ?
Hi.Can you change resolution for each camera separately?Or it's one for all cameras. Also what's the recording time on 4 TB hdd on highest resolution and frames number in constant recording mode 24/7, not motion detector on mode- in days-hours.Thanks for great video.
No, I don’t believe you can change the individual resolution. But, I honestly can’t remember. 4TB is a lot of room. With my 4 cams I can go back to footage over 30 days ago. I only use motion recording. Can I ask why would you need 24/7 if motion records everything that moves?
can you watc this on your phone at work? and can it record somewhere other than the HD that someone would just steal if they broke in your place? ive had this for years and stil cant get this set up right. waste of money really.. if it rains hard the lens fog up. i had one that got soaked inside. what are you using now a days?
My concern is that if someone breaks in and steals or destroys the recorder I then have nothing unless I was monitoring from my smart phone at the time it occurred. Is there an option to have it record to the hard drive AND to record to the cloud as well?
That I don’t know. But you could just hide the NVR somewhere and then run long HDMI and usb cables. Put the NVR in a closet and run cables to your monitor in another room
I’m currently using their newest system.... with their newer spotlight cameras. Swann Ultra 4K Security Camera System IP POE Review: Unboxing, Install, Setup & Demo NVR-8580 Kit th-cam.com/video/HhpDmIRv0CA/w-d-xo.html
No mic works with system unfortunately. They now have a newer 4K system that comes with a mic built in each camera. Check out my newer 4K Swann camera video
Ahhhh that's annoying, I might end up going for the 5MP version, alot cheaper, but the phone resolution/stuttering is a bit of a put off, not sure if the other Ip or smart cameras out there stream at lower Res also? Or if they can manage at full Res without stuttering
Wireless is always easier, just not as reliable or clear. Like.... look at a bank or government buildings where surveillance is important. They’re not doing wireless at all. Wireless is fine, but depends on what you need to monitor
With these swan Security systems (NVRs), Is it possible to be able to fully configure the NVR from a windows desktop computer? I'm thinking of putting something like this in my home but I'd prefer the NVR to be hidden in a wardrobe or even in the roof and plugged into my local LAN. I don't want to have to have it connected to a tv/monitor all the time. Cheers
Hi Layby2k, Yes you can , with mine it is the NVR 47400 system with an NVR. You need to hook it into your LAN , then download the Swanview link app for Windows whatever version you have. Run it as the client and it should find it automatically on your network . You can do everything from the desktop.
Correct. It will record in 4K, but you just won’t see it in 4K. By the way they have a newer 4K system now. I just recently got it a made a video. Check it out. Also, it’s cheaper.
I am sorry but I don't understand. How would it know 5 seconds before that there is going to be motion? I currently have ARLO Pro and am very unhappy with their cameras because of their delay.
How is the quality? like can you make out a face? cuz I'm trying to use this so I can see if my wife is cheating on me again. So far she has been doing good but I don't trust the ups guy.

Does this setup have True Detect thermal sensing?
No
Easy, thanks
Will this continue to record to the internal drive like a DVR if there is no internet connection
Correct. Internet is only if you want to view it from your phone or to get motion alerts sent to you phone
locoboof thanks mate. Just purchased the 16 channel version based on your review
You're welcome. You'll love it!
what is the frame rate of the record 4K video? also what format is the video saved as mp4?
MP4 but you have to download their video player as well. It's the only way to play the file unless converted. The player download is on the nvr. It's easy
locoboof I think you can use VLC to play. Also what is the frame rate of recorded video?
I forget the frame rate. Maybe VLC, but there's software that's on the NVR that you download when you download the video file to your thumb drive
do they make a larger package then 8 channels?
+Poppi3579 16ch it's on their site in the description or right here
www.swann.com/us/products/security-systems?recording_resolution=4k
Thanks
Can you really see License Plates? I don't know if I should get this or Lorex 4k. On a review for Lorex 4k he could not see License Plates 60ft away, but I think he was on a 1080P monitor. 🤔
I'd say only in the best optimal conditions. As far as a car just driving by.....probably not.
How do you set up so you can view cameras through mobile data not wifi on same network. Mine will not connect if I’m away from my house. Do you have a link to this type of video ?
The way I set it up is for viewing on WiFi or cellular away from home
I was thinking about getting this this swann 16 channel NHD-880 camera. Anybody have experience with this model, especailly with the night vision?
Are the housing/casings metal?
Aluminium
My concern is that if someone breaks in and steals or destroys the recorder I then have nothing unless I was monitoring from my smart phone at the time it occurred. Is there an option to have it record to the hard drive AND to record to the cloud as well?
That I don’t know. But you could just hide the NVR somewhere and then run long HDMI and usb cables. Put the NVR in a closet and run cables to your monitor in another room
Yeah, but then you will have to contend with heat issues from the NVR
Hi how's this better than the nvr 8580 which I believe was your previous setup?
I’m currently using their newest system.... with their newer spotlight cameras.
Swann Ultra 4K Security Camera System IP POE Review: Unboxing, Install, Setup & Demo NVR-8580 Kit th-cam.com/video/HhpDmIRv0CA/w-d-xo.html
is the app on cloud ? if so how does it handle 4 pix PTZ cams; more than one !
I’m not sure. I’ve never used PTZ cameras with it.
Where do you buy the microphone piece?
No mic works with system unfortunately. They now have a newer 4K system that comes with a mic built in each camera. Check out my newer 4K Swann camera video
Hi, You tells audio and video are going over one cable.
Why do I see two outputs, Thanks Henri
Unfortunately this system doesn’t do audio and video. Their newer 4K systems do
Ahhhh that's annoying, I might end up going for the 5MP version, alot cheaper, but the phone resolution/stuttering is a bit of a put off, not sure if the other Ip or smart cameras out there stream at lower Res also? Or if they can manage at full Res without stuttering
I spent hours trying to connect my dvr to the internet. I kept getting error message to check network or parameter. How do i make it work?
It’s very simple. It’s plug and play. All I did was plug in the Ethernet cord and that was it. Maybe call customer service?
How much did it set you back
It’s on their site. I put a link in the description
Got the install done credit for that but it was definitely a nasty install...
did you have to reset each camera? thanks
I don’t recall. I also don’t have this system anymore. They have newer, cheaper, better 4K systems now.
What desk is that?
Realspace Merido Main Desk, Espresso/Silver at Office Depot. I got two of the whole set
locoboof thanx.
It's a awesome set. I have the 3 piece set and another for my wife's side of the office
locoboof I will check it out
All swann cctv are they good during winter time?
I have mine during the winter and they work just fine.
does the system have sounds?
No audio is available. I’m going to get another system that is 4K with built in audio
Widny Polynice should get cameras with mic to if you want get audio
It doesn't look like night vision will not be good?
I don’t fully understand your question. Night vision looks pretty good
How is the phone app for this, does it crash a lot or is it good?
Sometimes it crashes. They do need to update it for sure. But for me, it's good. It works.
good video.
Thanks
Excelente Video Muy Buena Induccion
Hello I have a dahua nvr before cameras is working but I added new cameras but didn't show in the nvr.
seems like a lot of work. how about a wireless set up, those r more convenient
Wireless is always easier, just not as reliable or clear. Like.... look at a bank or government buildings where surveillance is important. They’re not doing wireless at all.
Wireless is fine, but depends on what you need to monitor
Wired cams are WAY better if at all possible.
If you like changing batteries
How many FPS this system is recording ?
I am very disappointed in the 5mp system on the fps on playback. What is the fps playback on this system?
I had no issues with the 5mp. I’m not sure the FPS on this unit
How much do they go for?
A lot cheaper now. I’m currently making a video for their newest 4K system. Stay tuned....
$700-1200 depending on how many cameras you want.
Probably can get a 4 camera system for 600 if you're lucky
I’ve got their newest 4K system. Please check my videos
hard to tell video quality when you uploaded in 720p....
Which is why I said that in the video
why do you always cover up the QR code, locoboof?
+SackboyD because someone could scan the QR code from the video and be able to login.
Cheers
Initial setup and changes need to be done from the unit itself. Web interface can only view
Thank you for your quick reply
Hi Layby2k, Yes you can , with mine it is the NVR 47400 system with an NVR. You need to hook it into your LAN , then download the Swanview link app for Windows whatever version you have. Run it as the client and it should find it automatically on your network . You can do everything from the desktop.
So a 4k monitor is not needed ?
Correct. It will record in 4K, but you just won’t see it in 4K.
By the way they have a newer 4K system now. I just recently got it a made a video. Check it out. Also, it’s cheaper.
why has the cat5 for a power lead if you don't need it , can this be viewed without internet
I don’t know why it’s there, but it’s not used at all.
And yes, it’ll work without internet, but you won’t be able to view it away from home or get notifications.
Is there a lag time on motion before it starts recording?
Not really, but it’s set to start recording 5 seconds before the motion happens anyways.
I am sorry but I don't understand. How would it know 5 seconds before that there is going to be motion? I currently have ARLO Pro and am very unhappy with their cameras because of their delay.
Please disregard my previous question. I understand now about the thermal feature.
Because it buffers everything. So it’s not really recording, but it is. So if something happens it knows to give you the recording 5 seconds before
Thank you.
Is the nvr noisy? Read some horrendous reviews about how noisy it is. Good vid btw :-)
In a quite room it’s noisy.... it’s sounds like a PC running
How is the quality? like can you make out a face? cuz I'm trying to use this so I can see if my wife is cheating on me again. So far she has been doing good but I don't trust the ups guy.
You can make out a face for sure. Specially if you have the correct angle. Sorry to hear about your situation.
Is this H.265 ?
You can switch it to .H265 if you want
Hello my nvr 8ch 7400 hot to Laptop connect
What?
Daylight these cameras are great, night vision is absolutely useless.
This camera set in the video is old. Their newer 4K systems with built in lights and mic are much better.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
i cant even get it to pair. lol
