"anomynous!" 😂 Gotta love that sweet kid Oliver
That’s how Trump pronounces it
Too old (76) to enjoy much chess… but am enjoying hearing about the players ( and their games) I studied sooo determinedly…smile
I remember one of the very first lectures I watched was on Smyslov, and never forgot that he attended Ben's first marriage in London. I love hearing some of the old stories of things that happened way back when, stories are good 😊
I think this is one of Ben's best. I've probably watched this 6 or 7 times since it originally was posted
When Ben asks his class why he would easily beat Smyslov today, and no one immediately blurts out the frankly obvious answer, I find that very suspicious.
Love seeing the old Soviet Grandmasters and their solid but unique playing styles that are so informative and easy to learn from! Smyslav is just one of those Soviet GMs that a casual chess viewer most likely would never know but every GM or strong master knows by heart. So glad to see his prominence and legacy continued
Great games, great player, great lecture. Go Ben!
What Ben said at 30:35 is undoubtedly true. I can't tell you the number of times I have said, right in the middle of a game with the black pieces, "Ha-ha. Your pawn on d4 is weak and you don't have any attack because we traded off all the pieces."
I say it all the time, except for one thing.
I've never said it. 😂
Also, no talking!
been playing casually for years and never have had noticed that isolated pawn open bishops connection. thanks, Ben
There's actually an entire lecture on this channel about getting advantages out of isolated queen pawn openings.
- Why would I beat Smyslov today in this position?
- Because you'd put on the engine over the weekend?
- Correct!
Jaja, Smyslov not bad, not bad at all, jeje😅
Wanna know something funny, I’ve never seen nor read anything on such,BUT y’all know I’ve had fun. Goodbye chess world. Thanks Big Ben for the complimentary recaps. You are now my favorite GM. Eh, Super GM in my books!
Really admire Smyslov fr... His system against KID is one of the main weapons i use to beat my opp
Ben, this video fun to watch. And I learned a lot. Thank you very much.
Great lecture, loved every minute
Great games. Great lecture. Great lecturer!
Let's Go Ben ! 🎉🎉🎉
Everybody remembers the Roulette Wheel, but most early Candidates Matches were supposed to be tiebroken by coin flip. That never actually happened, but that was the rule. It's hard to find that mentioned anywhere because it was so ridiculous that they didn't want to talk about it.
By 1980, they had something almost equally crazy, which is how Spassky-Portisch II was tiebroken by who won the most with black.
Yay, another Falling Down reference.
ben is the best, GO BEN!

@@danbrooks6780 sorry there was a typo in my comment. I mistyped “mum”
I still laugh at Ben's jokes
He was no inferior to Botvinnik.
Vaseline MeatSloth
03:09 UH-UH !
Ben "Bold Beard" Finegold without a beard???
"You've got to beat Botvinnik twice". That's not quite true. Smyslov only had to draw the rematch, not win it.
it's a rerun
You must be old school. Luckily, i haven’t seen it before
Whatever...ALWAYS REPEAT
@@schyllic me and Vasily are like THAT, son
Yeah, and it’s the same games from when he did the original lecture years ago. Unoriginal, so ppl have to specify what games so they don’t pay for an already free lecture that St. Louis CC has
Hey Ben, didn't this guy come to your wedding?
Was he really that good. Damn !!!!! Etc
Come on, Ben, you can't claim Oliver pronounced it wrong.
