Amazed that it was an AMG, I tried to keep up with it, key word, 'tried'... Usually my quaint but zippy 2.0 VW Cabrio IV can keep up with the back roads, usually smoking all the slow tourists. Not this guy, he took a sharp corner 30k more than I safely could, he smoked me all while I was still speeding recklessly. This wagon would piss cops off that's for sure.If I ever procreate I want one.

well idk about that. a 911 in uk goest for about 10k. bring it to a speed shop and pour another 15k into it to have it all done and you might be looking at better brakes, suspension and a bit more power with a lot less weight behind it. also a better drivers car.

You can do things that should not be possible in a 4,300 lb car, then drive home in comfort. Amazingly good vehicles. Don't forget that on the same day an E63 beat the Camaro by 3 seconds on the Top Gear track (season 15 IIRC), and this one is significantly more powerful.
The reason why I like this car is because only car people know what it is. If I pulled up in a Ferrari or Lambo everyone in society will want to talk to me & I'd much rather spend 6 figures on a car only enthusiasts know about than one that'll attract everyone else in society.
It's not really about it not being flashy but rather a car that only car people know. A Porsche GT3 is flashy but society will only think of it as any old Porsche.
You know i disagree with you Doug, i think this is the ultimate car. Its faster than a Ferrari 360 and has almost as much interior space as a Range Rover. Its not as flashy as a Ferrari but who cares, if you buy a car just to attract attention to yourself you clearly have size issues. $100,000 is a bit steep but considering that it can outrun cars that cost twice as much, i think its fairly reasonable.

you mention fuel mileage like its a deal breaker. Sad truth that this car gets 20+mpg when driven normally. This means it gets as much as your range and ferrari combined. Making it much more practical. Now lets talk about maint. costs im sure its cheaper than either one of your cars.

There's also the reason for depreciation, though: German reliability. You don't want to own one out of warranty. They're not really designed to be cars so much as desirable fashion items that get swapped out by rich people when the trend changes every 3 years. You wouldn't want your country club buddies to see you in *gasp* last year's body style. And why would you, Joe financially literate Rich Person, tie up $120k in an asset that won't be worth a third of that by the time the next one comes out when you can just make monthly lease payments, keep investing what would've been the down payment, and hop into a new one in 3 years now, no strings attached, which you would've done anyway. Or if you really love the current one, lease to own with only its now depreciated value left on the balance? Their lease rate is, like 80% or something equally ridiculous, and the longevity of the car reflects that. A 2-3 year old Mercedes *would* be a steal, though. Half price or sometimes even less, and it's still got a few years left under warranty. When the warranty ends, though, sell it for whatever you can, before you get hit with a $8,000 electrical repair and the car's not even worth that anymore.

you mention fuel mileage like its a deal breaker. Sad truth that this car gets 20+mpg when driven normally. This means it gets as much as your range and ferrari combined. Making it much more practical. Now lets talk about maint. costs im sure its cheaper than either one of your cars.

Sure it may cost $120k off the lot, but wait a few years and it will be a steal. The wonders of MB depreciation. Not to mention its a killer all around car. Having one car to store, maintain, and insure makes it that much more practical.
There's also the reason for depreciation, though: German reliability. You don't want to own one out of warranty. They're not really designed to be cars so much as desirable fashion items that get swapped out by rich people when the trend changes every 3 years. You wouldn't want your country club buddies to see you in *gasp* last year's body style. And why would you, Joe financially literate Rich Person, tie up $120k in an asset that won't be worth a third of that by the time the next one comes out when you can just make monthly lease payments, keep investing what would've been the down payment, and hop into a new one in 3 years now, no strings attached, which you would've done anyway. Or if you really love the current one, lease to own with only its now depreciated value left on the balance? Their lease rate is, like 80% or something equally ridiculous, and the longevity of the car reflects that. A 2-3 year old Mercedes *would* be a steal, though. Half price or sometimes even less, and it's still got a few years left under warranty. When the warranty ends, though, sell it for whatever you can, before you get hit with a $8,000 electrical repair and the car's not even worth that anymore.
+Sean Kurth You make a solid point, but not all MBs are crap after three years. That's a bit of an exaggeration. Still, you have to watch out for lemon systems like the ABC on the older S-class. Yikes.
+Sean Kurth Some dealerships will offer a 3 year warranty that covers a ramge of things. AMG vehicles keep their value a little more than non-AMG vehicles.

Tell me about it. Test drove this car once and the guy at the dealer said it really sucks up fuel. I wasn't looking for a E63 anyway. C63 for life. Ended up getting a new 2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG 507 Edition.
Wasn't lying. But it does really sucks up fuel. To run it you need a lot of money and time, two things I don't have.
