      Richard Harrold the n54 was replaced with the n55 *twinscroll turbo. It now has been replaced with the b58 engine in everything (x)40 for the current generation. The s55 is droolworthy as far as output though. 425 hp, and near that for torque. people that have bought those M's had their cars dynoed to show those numbers at the rear wheels.

      NO!!! e90 blinkers are perfection and it makes me to sad that they changed it :( :(
      Yes it's a bit weird the first couple of times but within a week you get used to it and start seeing the advantages. You don't get the annoying mechanical clicking that takes place when you turn the wheel (the part that cancels it automatically after), it's just silent and smooth as if it was off. And it cancels out the hazard lights and vise versa, so when you turn them off the blinker doesn't keep going (if it was on beforehand) after. The haptics on them is amazing and going back to clicky ones feels like a huge step backwards to appease masses :(
      And you don't have to hold them anywhere like it says in the video, you simply push them up/down all the way to put it on fully, but if you move it slightly then it just puts it on for 3 flashes. The same way with window switches where pushing it all the way will make it go all the way down by itself but pushing with only slight pressure it only goes down while you hold it.

    There's a two-step click for the turn signal, though. You don't have to hold it, just push it a bit further than you normally would and it will stay. The 3 second thing is there in most new European cars and it's there to make it easier in a roundabouts, which are common in Europe.

    It's funny how similar this comparison of BMW 335i vs STI is to my feelings about my current Audi S4 vs my previous Mazdaspeed3.
    I had a 2012 Mazdaspeed3 that I modified (roughly 300 WHP, 350 WTQ, great suspension setup, brakes, wheels, etc). Yeah, it was fast, but it was so uncomfortable on long drives, loud, and felt somewhat cheap.
    Then I bought a 2011 Audi S4. It's a totally different experience. The S4 feels just as fast, with a much smoother powerband with a huge torque curve, but when you're just driving down the road, or on the highway, its so quiet, so comfy.
    With a simple tune, I can go from "Similar to my tuned MazdaSpeed3's power" to "These aren't even comparable anymore" and I won't lose any civility when i'm driving on the highway or around town.
    Sometimes, it's just not worth getting the hopped-up, over-extended, over-powered tuner car, and just get a car like the BMW 335i or Audi S4, because the amount of money you're spending at the end of the day is very similar, but with totally different experiences.

      Toxic Potato There is no car culture because the people can't afford it. I am from Macedonia and know the situation, and now the imported cars from Western Europe allows the people to drive "better" cars for cheap price, but unfortunately most of them are with 300-400k km on the odometer , but sold as 150k

      Same thing in Eastern Europe - 80% of guys that have just gotten a drivers license drive a cheap bmw or an audi. Very few drive japanese cars and there are almost no american cars. And after the wall came down everybody imported cars from Europe. That's why the only cars older than 1990 are vw's, audi's, bmw's, merc's and soviet cars.

    I believe the re-mapping of the ECU has radically changed the powerband of that E92.

    I imagine that weird throttle is due to the ECU tune. Probably a selling point, that punch in the back power delivery when you feed the throttle past half way would be impressive to some people. Like the stupid oversaturated color presets on TVs.

    • @Jimgersnap
      @Jimgersnap 7 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      I have an '09 535i xDrive (uses the same 300hp twin-turbo inline-6 this E92 uses) without the ECU tune and it has the same feeling when pushing the throttle. Once you switch to sport mode you get all of the power all of the time. I've always just assumed it was so it would appeal to those who want the power, but when they call for it without having to pop it over into sport with shiftable-auto.

    • @Tun1NGManiac
      @Tun1NGManiac 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To a certain degree modern Audis and Mercs throttles feel the same way. Probably the last car that didn't feel like this was the e46 despite the throttle being fly by wire. The tune only makes it even more noticeable.

    • @nightarrow7473
      @nightarrow7473 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      they make the throttle respond like that in only eco and comfort modes switch those cars to sport and you will see how direct the pedal is.
      for example, my 2009 Audi A4 in normal mode makes me wanna kill myself it has SOOO MUCH pedal travel to give so little power even at full throttle it is not giving you 100% power, however pop it into Sport mode and the lightest touch to the throttle will give you so much power.

    • @drwatson32bit
      @drwatson32bit 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, punch in the back torque is fun, nothing wrong with that. That's coming from the flashback that the turbo lag of my 80's Saab made it more of a thrill than my quantifiably faster Focus ST that eventually replaced it. A friend of mine had one of these e92s, but in manual, the factory tune seemed to have a pretty linear/civilized torque curve from what I recall.

    • @apocalypse4312
      @apocalypse4312 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah. I have an e92 335i (the rwd one not awd) and the throttle is perfectly linear. It's bone stock.

    Good stuff as always! I've had an E90 328i for several years and the throttle deadzone isn't so bad when you get used to it. The only issue is when switching to other cars you find yourself literally stabbing the throttle sometimes lol. And I actually like the turn signals now that I've gotten used to them too, although sometimes I still accidentally turn on my right indicator when cancelling the left indicator. But it's very nice to use otherwise.

    I've come to comment in this old video and add another to the 1,584 comments to say....
    In your video about a BMW, you've managed to perfectly capture the essence of the Subaru STi. Over 10 years ago I had a 2004 model that I used as intended... SCCA autocross twice a month, run at the drag strip every so often, even did track days as I could afford them. But the highway ride...... you nailed it. I took mine on road trips and after a few hours your eyes adjust to the awful micro-bouncy ride and trick your brain into visually believing it's smooth, then you get out of the car on solid ground and visually everything around has this vibration. It's like getting off a merry-go-round where everything continues to spin for a few moments, but instead it's like your head was dealing with riding a paint shaker for hundreds of miles.
    Then there's the general attitude of the car, which "SMASH" more or less captures. Want to go easy and cruise? FUCK YOU, SISSY, ONWARD AND SIDEWAYS!!! ....as it punches you in the taint until you feed it an apex, Richard Burns style.
    But when you do channel your inner Colin McRae, holy hell is it the most amazing car on the planet. Once you figure out the car's single amazing trick, it's so easy to control you use every possible opportunity you can to drift through every bend in the road, to include clear intersections. The trick is simple, when it's time to accelerate you just put your foot on the floor and use the steering wheel to point the car in the direction you want it to go. No subtlety to this car, no fine skills required, all you need is a maniacal dedication to "SMASH."
    I've yet to drive a car that was so brutal and so entertaining and mind-bendingly awesome in how it does what it does, nor have I ever driven a car that was so painful to deal with in every other way.

If I own a BMW with the same power as my wrx, I will pay at least double in insurance, and 5-10x in parts costs. Sure it's loud, annoying, rattles everywhere, and ringland anxiety is real, but in the long run its going home with the low maintenance yet surprisingly kinky redhead instead of the boring, high cost, high maintenance blonde who's about as wild as a domesticated turtle. It requests something like 60% load at 30% input. Something along those lines. I can pull the data from my bin to check.
      Linear would be 30% input 30% load request.
