    Well it’s good to see this type of behavior happening. When I was a kid(teenager) the striped bass was a ghost and hardly ever seen. Plus the minimum keeper length was 42 inches if I remember correctly. And if someone on the canal actually caught one they were semi celebrity status. I remember just wanting to see what a keeper looked like in the flesh. Never forget my 1st keeper. Was a monumental achievement for the time. Years of all night fishing trips with no luck. Persistence paid off. But now it’s all changed. Thankfully

    From Australia so striped bass knowledge limited but if I was ever in the States I reckon stripers would be my fave fish ! Good bust up !😎👍

      Wonderful fish to catch and tasty eating. White, flaky meat when cooked. Larger fish make nice steaks from the fillets. Smaller fish cooked whole if feeding a crew. Current limits here have a slot of 28-35" so even a small keeper is 8 pound+. Maybe 4-5 lbs of meat. 35" fish is likely 15-20 lbs minimum and will yield 8lbs+ of good steaks. These fish were filling there bellies for the fall migration south.

    I watched a blitz like this about a month ago in the East River in Manhattan, big fish on adult bunker. I was 30 stories up in a doctors office and had no gear with me. :( The bunker were jumping out of the water onto the shoreline rocks, and I could see several bass that were easily in the 40's if not a few 50's, cruising in the surprisingly clear water, grabbing injured bunker. Not a sole was fishing them!

      I walk more than a couple days a week and have only spotted limited fish during daylight. Couple of other videos from week of June 11th show early morning incoming tide bite on Bell Rd. th-cam.com/video/-6wTtpFy42k/w-d-xo.html

      Just a walker and observer for now. Used to do quite a bit of fishing previously. Catch and release all at the end. Last good fish was about 8 years ago.

    Most of the time when you see the water breaking like that it’s the blue fish that are attacking in the stripes lay low underneath

    • @02532gary
      @02532gary  ปีที่แล้ว

      On this day there were some "faster feeding" fish on a few other pods I observed but did not film that preceded this one. False albies or bluefish were the likely culprits. This pod was slower moving and rolling on their feed. Blues could be mixed in but I believe this was a mostly striped bass pod. But who knows, I did not see one pulled out by anybody for the entire walk.

    So I know nothing about fishing about I took a boat out of Cataumet Cape Cod two years ago and saw something very similar off the Falmouth coast, I wonder if it was the same fish

    • @02532gary
      @02532gary  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bluefish, striped bass, and bonito can all look similar when feeding. Slow moving and methodical is more the way of the striped bass. Grabbing their prey and eating it whole. Tiny "nubs" like rough sandpaper for teeth. Blues and bonito are quick moving slashers. Don't get a finger near a bluefish when removing hooks or landing the fish. Feed like a pack of wolves and never give up - even IN the boat!!

    that's a crazy blitz for stripers. they're behaving like tuna or bluefish. there are some giants mixed in there. probably 20-30 lb class bass making some of those big splashes. maybe a few that are even bigger. cheers from the merrimack. my thumb is truly worked over from all the fish i've been catching this spring.

    • @02532gary
      @02532gary  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      More than a few larger ones mixed in. Beginning of the video I mention "Hey Tom, these look like bass...." 15 minutes earlier several schools of bonito or bluefish came by as well. Much quicker moving when feeding....not so much the lazy, steady, flopping of these bass pods.

      Probably on baby bunker at that time of the year. We get a good flush of small bait out of upper Buzzards Bay every year late September. Early season (May-Mid June) it is the opposite. Adult bunker (menhaden), mackerel, herring, then squidare the big natural bait fish options. Toss in worm spawn and sand eels over the summer.

      @02532gary  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe these were about +99% bass... But there could always have been a few mixed in. Just prior to starting to record this video pods of much quicker moving, more of a slashing attack, came past with the current.
