Bravo! There is a huge genetic stability between dogs of the same breed even. I'm glad you're talking about this maybe we won't be seen dogs so unstable because of over breeding
No it doesn't. It focuses just on a dog's prey drive, but ignores a dog's most primal need, which is that of a strong leader and to be a part of that pack. If you are a strong leader to your dog, that will override its prey drive. This video is BS.
@@samwdavis GFY. If anything they go hand in hand and this video is one in a series so I'm sure he'll get to that also. Being a strong leader isn't going to override every dog's prey drive. It may help manage it which is exactly what the balloon analogy was referring to.
I have 2 kangals and 5 banddogs. My only problem with them is when I'm giving attention to one or whatever there's always one or two rubbing their buttons like they have worms until I give them attention. It's kinda funny. But I don't want them to rub their buttons raw.
Do you have any advice of harnessing a dog's high prey drive at home with toys? My husky mix (she's a resuce so I dont know her genetics) is really well behaved when she is excerised properly. The best form of excersising her prey drive is letting her run and play with other dogs. However, we are not always able to get with good dogs more than 3-4 times a week. So, in the days she has no dogs to play with, what activites can we do together at home or outside? She is not all that interested in playing fecth, or tug, sometimes she likes toys but it's short lived. Obviously I'm not playing with her in a way that grabs and excites her attention- so any tips or videos on how to play with a high prey drive (who likes to chase, catch, and "kill" her toys. But loves to BE chased by other dogs) would be appreciated.
flirt pole = rag on a sting & run with it for her to chase and she's a husky so canicross, bikejouring, roller blading, sledgework etc will be great - thats what she's really meant for tbh. Be careful who you let her play with too, its not great if she starts ignoring you for the other dogs or gets attacked (or vise versa).
You need more than quick advice. I’d suggest 2 things. 1. Consider signing up for my online trainings and 2. Try to find a solid trainer close by to help you as well.
Group tendencies are real in dog breeds and in races of people. It's a bell-curve, but general genetic behavior patterns are found in groups. Like you said about the pits being developed to want to fight other dogs. This is now a general behavior for that breed of dog. The same applies to racial groups. Not politically correct, but true.
Most professional Breeders were back yard Breeders the difference is some want to just make money and don't care .and some care about a good line and do the testing entering into show or sport competition Herny Ford was a back yard automotive builder maybe that is the problem with Ford
Wrong. A backyard breeder is NOT a professional breeder. A professional breeder will assess confirmation AND desirable traits in a potential breeding dog or bitch. The dog or bitch will then be tested for any detectable health problems. A professional breeder will not allow a bitch to produce more than 1 litter per yer. The litters are then assessed, and then a decision is made about breeding that bitch to the same dog again. Puppies are sold with vaccine records. A truly professional and responsible breeder will offer to take the puppy back if the new owner can't or doesn't want to keep the pup, often for as long as the pup lives. Potential buyers should be assessed to insure as far as possible that the welfare of the pup is the most important consideration. Backyard breeders just pump out puppies as often as a bitch can be bred and will sell to anyone that walks up with money in hand. The problems with the Ford automobiles started after Henry Ford's death. It had nothing to do with Ford's anti-Semitic views. He was a Nazi but was admired by Adolf Hitler for his ability to get the most production out of his employees and his anti-Semitic ideology.
It's one thing to say dogs share 98% of their genes with wolves, but unless you know the 2% not shared, that doesn't say much. Humans share DNA with chimpanzees, but for at least some, what they don't share defines who they are.
My guess the answer is, how dedicated are you to work with the pooch? I don't have answers. But I can say that your love for your dog will drive you to find answers. Ask God to help you find those answers. That is what I do, and He has helped me this far.

It's insane how many people don't understand that their dog is a dog. Someone post a video of their dogs getting a rabbit in the backyard. First comment was something like "why would blah blah blah defenseless animal blah blah" and I replied "you get a happy dog with a satiated prey drive."
When I was looking for a dog, I went to every shelter around me. For three months I checked every week. Nothing but pit bulls and pit mixes. An occasional Husky or small mixed breed dogs. I wanted a Golden or a Lab or a mix of similar. I gave up and bought an Aussie from a nearby farm. The GSD was in a home where he was not thriving and was skinny. He came with a long list of problem behaviors. None of which he did here. He was counter surfing and getting in the trash because he was hungry. He pottied in the house because he didn't have any structure. He was hard to walk because he had too much pent up energy. Having a fenced yard and another dog to play with as well a learning to walk on my treadmill took care of that. I had intended to get him healthy and find him a good home. Turns out this is his home😁 Mr. Cabral is one of my favorite trainers to watch.

When we got our Mali, i jad to play keep up as we didnt really innerstand the dog we just rescued as a Pup from a Gypsy family that had already lost the rest of Luna's brthers and sisters through neglect. I researched my ass off and realised we literally just invited a Supercharged beast into pur home and it was MY job to Man up. Our aim above all has been to give Luna the best life possible. This has meant my main job has been to really watch Luna and her natural instincts and rather than treat tem as an "Issue" i look at it as an opportunity to get Luna satisfied and exhausted. When she went through the bting and grabbing stage, I retrained this into a hunt and seek game with her. Involving the kids in this playing was vital, she dropped the urge to bite and tuned it into sniffing, running, listening and tasting. She now loves anytime me or the kids step outside to have a sniff about....

A Jack Russell terrier is highly unlikely to maul a human, especially if old enough to defend itself.
Size alone matters.

What a great idea it would be to have prisoners take these courses and foster to train dogs for adoption instead of euthanizing them because of space.
