Man I love Marty Friedman!!! He is very sincere, says what he thinks, but at the same time being very polite, what he said in the video is nothing more than Dave Mustaine's square way of being. Megadeth has made the same sound since the beginning, and it doesn't change, and that is sometimes very bad, because it limits the band's sound a lot, and sometimes it gets sickening.
The truth is exactly that... The essence of Megadeth is Dave Mustaine, and all the other members he recruited gave their contribution to the diversity and great quality of the albums, each one has its merit and the projection that Megadeth gave to the their guitarists is great... Something that will accompany them for the rest of their lives.
Was very happy to see megadeth with Marty live in the very late 90s. Think they opened in Germany on the maiden reunion tour. What an evening. Must have been 99 or so.
I lived long enough to see Megadeth (and so did they) eating biscuits. It’s a funny old world Megadeth has always had great lineups, the music and Dave demands it. But it was with Marty they were at their strongest (and no disrespect to anyone else) He actually injected some of his personality and style into the music and enhanced the overall end piece. The rest of the musicians are all amazing but they tend to play within the confines of the song, Marty was so good he could expand that. And Dave let it go because it was just amazing and enhanced the music.
Megadeth is a band unlike any other. It's Dave's vision, and to realize that vision he has to bring in only the best of the best. There's been a lot of drama over the last 40 years- but how could there not have been? And yet, here they are still going strong. To see Dave reunite with Marty, and for Marty to meet with the current iteration of the band is very cool. Definitely a geek out moment for the hardcore fans. Blessings to all five of them, and may they continue to make music for decades more to come.
Dave didn’t eat what he offered just to be polite and couldn’t even conjure up any nice things to say about Marty in return. Just not a good look. Props to Marty.
After being alive for 50 years and having read and understood the bible, I am very attune to the fact that men will often build up other men as if they are gods. Its like listening to grown men say good things about each other in public in order to remain humble but at the same time each builds the others ego and pride to the roof. And somehow that is ok.

I don't think Dave enjoys a Megadeth celebration where he's not the one owning the room. Marty was so welcoming and gracious towards the current band and had magnetic vibes, whereas Dave's body language spelled him trying to keep as much distance as possible. Hard to ignore the possible underlying resentment, as the band has never seen such highs and success since Marty left, and how after Dave Marty's the next guy people care about when they talk about megadeth. Marty's also the only guy who doesn't need Megadeth to carry a respectable career outside of the band (and also the only guy to leave on his own terms)

I love Dave. I really do. But, Dave is what happens when you spend your life being bitter about the shit you've been through in life. Has no idea how to take a compliment, constantly on the lookout for anything that can even remotely be considered a dig at him. Also, Marty and Kiko are some of the most socially intelligent people I've ever seen in Rock n roll
Right. Dave seems to have a difficultly showing emotion and excitement these days. Could be he is Jaded and overl careful with his words. or the effects of drugs or the cancer. I’m sure he enjoyed this
Let's face it the current band is a shell of its former glory and it's written all over Dave's demeanor here. I question whether Dave holds a certain kind of jealousy/resentment towards Marty for leaving the bar so high as far as fan demand and appeal goes. All fine players, but outside of the RiP line-up you don't really have any legacy iterations of the band, with perhaps the Poland and Samuelson lineup as the only exception.
I'll add to the chorus that this was a pretty awkward video for a few reasons. Yes, Dave rejected the sweet at the beginning, but worse in my view is how Marty handled himself. While it's the truth, how Marty emphasized Megadeth purely as a "Dave solo band" was disrespectful to the other guys. His repeated comments on the music being the same as it was on the first album is very disrespectful and dismissed for what actually and arguably has been a very distinct voice in metal, and one that has progressed through the years, and continued on so strongly w/o waning, as opposed to every other band of the style and generation. It's not a good look for Marty to go on and on like that and intentionally or not kind of dinging Dave and the band. In these circumstances I appreciate Dave and his composure in how he handled himself. Also "bonus" points for the bassist for taking on an amount of time very disproportionate to his impact and meaning in the band's larger picture and this moment. Best is to just stay quiet in this moment and wait for this awkward Marty show to be over. I think in moments like this one can perhaps see why Dave may have accepted that moving on w/o Marty isn't such a bad thing after all!

Marty says thanks for the opportunity and everything. But it was mutually beneficial, IMO. I'd seen Marty in guitar magazines, but had never heard his music up to that point. Likewise, I'd heard of Megadeth, but never gave them much of a listen (I'd probably heard Peace Sells, the song, at that point). If Megadeth hadn't released that Holy Wars video, I might never have bought RIP. I think Marty took Megadeth to the next level. RIP, Countdown, Youthanasia. Beyond that, they started to drop off, and I started to lose interest. With anyone else on guitar, I'm not sure they would have gotten as popular as they did.

He looked off during Marty's performance and now Marty seems to be opening the doors to future collaborations. I'd hate to loose Kiko bit if it meant Marty coming back I'd probably learn to live with it. I'd still listen to Kiko tho which is a first for any of thier former guitarists.
Kiko invited Marty to join him in a song of his last solo album three years ago. “Imminent Threat” is an awesome song! Marty already said he considers Kiko his friend, he mentioned that always Kiko is in Japan they met.
