    • @shreddeddeez1234
      @shreddeddeez1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Youthanasia is a fucking masterpiece, such amazing songwriting on that album. I whole heartedly believe that Youthanasia fell victim to being released during a time where metal as a whole,in a sense, was practically dead. This mainly coming from the rise and popularity of the grunge movement. Therefore this album took a backseat to a lot of the other stuff being released at the time, it hadn't near the promoting and airtime on MTV as previous years and albums and for anyone who was old enough to remember will tell you how much that had to do with a artist or album being successful. It was still a success, but with a flood of new music and bands from a newly discovered genre, it didn't receive the recognition or notoriety it deserved. At that time most bands of yesteryear were changing their sound and trying to go with the new trend and totally sold out instead of just writing what they truly felt. That's not saying a bands sound can't change and evolve, there's a big difference between evolution and premeditated bullshit. Once an artist changes their sound or process because someone else tells them it's in their best interest, or because they believe it's in someone else's best interest, instead of writing it for themselves is the difference. It then loses its rawness and appeal and the universe and future as a whole suffers from such decisions.

      @pleilleur 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed !

    • @tommapar
      @tommapar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For sure, Peace Sells has some of the most groundbreaking work in the history of both thrash and metal in general.
      The sick beats Gar was pulling off with such precision at high speeds, along with some really vibey tempos in some parts, no doubt fueled by his Jazz roots and copious amounts of heroin. I still believe Gar was a better drummer back then than most drummers are today, save for a few untouchable legends like Danny Carey.
      That and the riffs man! Every song a riff fest is the name of the game, and fast riffs that are not only primarily represented by the guitar work as it usually does with Megadeth, but it has a lot of bass stand-out moments with Junior giving some fast bass lines in My Last Words' verses for example, or in pretty much any other song. Bad Omen and the gem that is Good Mourning... Black Friday come to mind.
      My favorite Megadeth album wobbles constantly between Rust in Peace and this masterpiece. But for me, no one can deny that all of them have really good music,. Yes, even Risk. Prince of Darkness, I'll Be There, Time (Both), Wanderlust, Seven, all great songs. I personally even like the non-metal songs like Ecstasy and Breadline.

    Dystopia... Just clear your heart and mind, accept the fact that the songs are catchier and the guitar works have more clarity and focus. It contains almost all previous Megadeth elements, and uniquely, while it doesn't really contain any "new element" that hasn't been done before, it still sounds fresh and distinct. Revolving and evolving at the same time.
    I hope the next album would be at least twice as good.

      It's my second least favourite of theirs simply because it's the only one I put on and didn't remember anything from after having listened to it. It's technically impressive but emotionally absent, just chugs by for a length of time and then stops. Can't say that about any of their others.

However, favourite album has to be RIP. As a guitar player, I've learnt so much from that album. Criminally underrated albums include Youthanasia and Endgame. Love me some Train of Consequences and Elysian Fields. I will say, I'm not a massive fan of Dystopia BUT Kiko is a fucking genius. I hate that he always seems to be in Marty's shadow. I am so glad I got to see this epic man and his epic band live in Michigan in 2021.
    It was my first time ever going to a MEGADETH concert. They headlined, and also Lamb of God, Trivium, and Hatebreed were there too - so completely SICK concert. It was bittersweet, because I felt like this would be the last time I would get to see him live and was not only my first Megadeth show, but might be my last.
    Megadeth got me through my military service... it was there for me during a hard time for me personally.
    A few days after the concert, I had this crazy dream about getting to meet Dave at that very same concert (even though I never had that pleasure) and that he said he was "going home to die"... and a bunch of other weird crap (of course you know how dreams are). Specifically his extended family and fair weather friends were also there behind stage like vultures and ready tp "pick at the bones" so to speak... they didn't really care about Dave.
    I hope that part was all fantasy in the dream. I woke up and told my wife about it and she said something that I think really nailed it.
    She said, "Dave was an important part of your memory and your history, and how you got through some tough times. That might have been your subconscious preparing you to say goodbye". I thought that was very insightful...
