  • There are no official records or stats kept about practicing exorcists. Most communities hide their exorcist’s identity to avoid unwanted attention.
But what do you think? Was Anneliese Michel possessed, or was something more scientific lurking in the shadows?

Did you know that most cereal killers and rapists hear voices ? And that those voices cause them to do very similar things in their progression as cereal killers until they get caught. They all start with torturing animals when they give in to the voices, and each evil act is more evil than the last.
THOSE VOICES AINT NO MENTAL CONDITION! They aint skitzo nor phsyco. Clearly there are intelligent, evil beings influencing them . They use demon spirit frequencies to communicate with folks inside of their minds (its telepathy) . That is the voices they hear. This has been going on throughout time . And the phsycics - called psycologists and cockeyeitrists/ phsychiatrists these days - have always helped to keep the devils hidden by claiming that folks who are "demon possessed ", are mentally ill.
This has been going on throughout time in the civy lies nations. They just renamed and repackaged all of the same ol evil stuff. The witches , scorcerers, alchemists, astrologers and wise men - just took to being called docs of different fields of practice , and the roots of those fields is in kabala / devil worshippin

@@aaronwalker8847 some do. But most is definitely not true. And often it's not the voices that caused them to do these things. It is the voices in combination with other things. You are perpetuating a fear of mental illness. It is not right.

This hits me a lot different than most. I am sitting in a hospital next to my son's hospital bed--he has epilepsy. I would love to know exactly what a person who has epilepsy "looks" like to a priest. People who have epilepsy have been maligned for a biological condition that they have no control over. The priests and parents should have been held accountable for her death, in a just way. Rest in peace Anneliese, you deserved so much better.

My daughter had grad mal seizures as a child due to viral meningitis. She was cleared and off meds in her early 20s. Within two years she started a number of issues, auditory and visual hallucinations and somnia. Screaming, yelling and throwing things. Loss of appitite with a 70lb weight loss. Perseverance on a few topics. On top of this she has developmental delay and autism, so her ability to tell us what she was experiencing was limited. We ruled out all known physical issues. Suspecting temporal lobe seizures, we did a week long video taped EEG. There was no seizure activity. That left us with mental health issues. She now has a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Early 20s is a common period for schizophrenia onset in females. (In males it is mid to late teens) It is now well controlled on low dose medication.
While we were struggling to understand what was happening, there were times it was easy to see how demon possession is considered. Her behavior was so radically different than the calm, sweet person she'd always been. During the worst moments of agitation, her face did not even look like herself.
There is more we don't know in this world than we do know.

Yes, until ppl accept our spirituality/ghosts, we can't make much headway. Science can't explain spirits. I'm a Christian and have an undergrad science background. What strikes me most is precognition-- knowing a foreign language without prior exposure and life events that they have no way of knowing. I've been aware of spirits since my 20s and all have been human. The Bible talks about spirits and demons/fallen angels. Wish everyone was open-minded.

@@TrueCrimeRecaps It has always been presented that her condition had to be caused by demon possession because the medication failed to work. I never thought there was a possibility it was demon possession. They stopped her medication and she likely rarely took that medication. So we don't know that the medication didn't work. To me, extraordinary claims, such as demon possession require extraordinary evidence. Other than the creepy sounds she made, which I admit do scare the crap out of me, there was nothing that suggested anything paranormal. Those recordings were extremely disturbing but not proof of demon possession. Unfortunately, religious zealots of every faith continue to do exorcisms on young people and don't get them the help they need. Even if you truly believe someone is possessed, you don't stop the medication or get the person medical help when needed. We should be too advanced for this type of stuff to be happening.

They lost their daughter because of their archaic and backward religious beliefs. I do not think there was any malice on behalf of anyone involved. So I am not sure that punishment would have benefited society. I am glad it got a lot of press and people saw how ignorant these people were and they were called out publically. I suppose punishment may have made any other extreme religious people think of getting medical help in a similar situation but again this was a rare occurrence. It was just a terrible case all the way around. We will never know if medical help would have saved her because she never got it. I always heard this story told that the medication did not work and that is why they used exorcism instead. That just isn't the truth and ignorance kills. Just proves we need to teach science and critical thinking skills in grade and high school.

    Thanks for the recap.
I don't completely reject demonic possession and exorcism as a means of dealing with that problem. The spiritual world is not my wheelhouse.
On the other hand, I believe that this young lady suffered from epilepsy and maybe other mental illnesses. I also wonder whether she could have been the victim of molestation. Depending on the severity of all of her problems, I don't know whether she would have found true healing from medical science or the church. Both she and her family seemed to want to find a quick fix. When people look for a quick fix, they often create more problems. Maybe a real solution would have been a grueling process, and maybe she wouldn't have gotten there. I wish that they had tried. Maybe they would have been able to give her a good life.

I asked whether anyone else had ever noticed it, or had knowledge regarding this detail of her medical history. I know she had been hospitalized/under the care of physicians. "Hyperthyroidism may lead to high anxiety status, emotional lability, irritability, overactivity, exaggerated sensitivity to noise, and fluctuating mood, insomnia and hyporexia. In extreme cases, they may appear delusions and hallucinations as psychiatric symptoms.". This could possibly explain some of Anneliese's symptoms, although I'm not asserting that physical illness would preclude a spiritual component or cause for her situation. I don't discount the possibility of possession, but was merely interested to learn whether anyone could provide this background piece of Anneliese's medical history. (Additionally, there may be potentially serious physical symptoms which I have not included here.)

@@peternolan4107 I never claimed demons exist. I said if you are going to claim something like demon possession, you better have some extraordinary evidence. We know that's not possible so there wouldn't be such evidence. There is a difference between malice a forethought and ignorant superstitions. They didn't mean to kill her or want to. I think the priests are more culpable. But what happened to her was not murder. At most it was negligent manslaughter.
