Shout out to the guy in the red shirt who checked your luggage in Cairns. He is a legend. The amount of stuff that he has to clean up at the station is just ridiculous. I see him every day.
It is a tragedy in Australia that there is so much demand for sleeper trains but virtually no supply! Trains are so bloody efficient and much less polluting than aircraft
@@ivan7453 if you’re talking about train street, it runs along a track with the markets along the side, not an actual street. In Thailand there’s some similar, but same thing, they set up a market on either side of train tracks, there’s no actual road or street to drive down.
lol @ at the rail staff at 19:00 ! I did this exact journey back in August 2020 between lockdowns, unfortunately in a premium seat as the beds were sold out. Really loved the journey, but it was unfortunately extremely uncomfortable during the night and sleep was non existent. I also did the Spirit of the Outback from Longreach to Brisbane in July in a cabin. Absolute once-in-a-lifetime experience you HAVE to do! The food was brilliant, staff were so friendly and just a fantastic experience after a 1 week stay in Longreach- I actually want to go back & do it all again!
I did Brisbane Cairns in a sleeper in 1967, me and my mates would hop off, hitch-hike up the track a bit, get a counter lunch somewhere then meet the train when it caught up.....then a DC3 to Weipa, way to go👍🏻
My husband and teenage son did this journey from Townsville to Brisbane. They loved it. They want to do it again some day with me as well. I am sure I would love it too. Food looked great.
Have you ever travelled on the Prospector (it’s a train service in WA that goes from Perth to Kalgoorlie)? If you didn’t, it’s a must try as it’s a relatively fast train.
With regards to exiting at Roma St. Normally long distance trains would terminate at platform 10, nearest to the coach station. Access is much easier from there
So public! When I was doing long distance train travel Sydney/ Bris/Cairns in the 70s/80s sleeper roomettes were available…with a tea served in the mornings, these public sleeping chairs are a very poor substitute. Funny how people get used to poor service and think that’s OK.
On a side note the Rockhampton to Brisbane leg is operated by 3 trains. The Diesel Tilt, The Electric Tilt, The loco hauled L Steel Carriages (Brisbane to Longreach). The latter is several hours longer because it's not designed as a high speed train.
There is demand for tickets for this train. They should at least procure one more train set that would depart from Brisabane Thursday or Sunday and return from Cairns Saturday or Tuesday.
Great video Josh. It's sad that these are the best trains in Australia. And they are themselves now getting old. I'm a Queenslander so I'm happy we win this. But surely there are opportunities to offer similar or better trains across Aus but it seems no. :-( and another thing, there trains are narrow gauge yet provide fast and comfortable service. Bonkers that the other states still can't match them. Go QLD. 😅
You were in Rockhampton a few days after this vid? I think I know what's coming next. Oh god. I was at Roma St the other week where they were shepherding everyone onto the buses instead of the train. That was a mess.
There’s two places in Australia that have trains down the Main Street - Rockhampton, Queensland and Wycheproof, Victoria (I’m not sure on that so I stand to be corrected!)
What an amazing train if only Sydney-Melbourne and Sydney-Brisbane were like this. Too bad our Minns government doesn't give a rats about long-distance public transport. We can't even get trains that we've already BOUGHT onto our rails!
Especially if the so called “modern” fleet of trains used by Qld rail only saves a couple of hours. Nambour to Cairns was a 30 hr train trip in 1994, so you’re only convincing me that “not much has changed” except for the food service!
🤣 about 15 kids decided to have a huge party at my hotel, so not much sleep, waking up early, and then not much sleep on the train. Well, that’s my story and I’m going to stick to that 😂 you should have seen me at the mall sitting waiting for my hotel check in, I was so out of it!
I enjoy taking the train, I take them all over the world long before I started making videos. I enjoy making videos, so I make videos of the journeys I enjoy taking. It’s that simple really.
My biggest annoyance with this train, as a person living with a disability (legally blind), is FULLY ABLE BODIED people using/hogging the accessible toilet & shower room, when there are more than enough other shower rooms onboard to use 🤔😡😡😡😡It’s rude & totally inconsiderate!
How do you know if the other people using the disabled toilets aren't disabled themselves, rather than "FULLY ABLE BODIED"? There's plenty of people with disabilities who don't appear disabled... Visual impairment can be among that group actually. Who gets to decide whether someone is "FULLY ABLE BODIED" or not?
It runs on old slow Caine sugar farm narrow Gauge railway train track. Very narrow bumpy journey Australia is a 3rd World country. Warning ⚠️ Very high levels of Drug Trafficking Organisations operating in every major Town and city. Expect to find your cold drinks spiked with drugs, especially ketamin and methamphetamine drugs

We need more train services like this in Australia
Done this twice and it’s truly amazing, luxurious and comfortable, great food, service!
What's luxurious about it? It's no where near The Indian Pacific, The Ghan, or the The Orient Express.
20:31 - Very relatable feeling. Great Video Josh!
The train rolls through a Hanoi street in Northern Vietnam, just like Rockhampton.

Very informative
Done this trip back in the 80s
Train looks way more comfortable nowdays
I love trains, especially slow ones.
But they must have a whistle.
So very chilled - great match with the music.

Hi Josh, well documented journey. Keep up the great work
Thank you
Great stuff! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. ✌️
Thanks man, yeah I loved it! Can’t wait to see how the XPT replacements compare 😂
Pretty cool Josh!
I did Brisbane Cairns in a sleeper in 1967, me and my mates would hop off, hitch-hike up the track a bit, get a counter lunch somewhere then meet the train when it caught up.....then a DC3 to Weipa, way to go👍🏻
shout to josh love your channel , keep up the good work , ill keep an eye out for ya
The common showers had that 'school camp' feel to them. Just don't look down the plug hole
I had no idea these type of sleeper trains were in Australia
really appreciate the level of detail in your videos!
I appreciate that!
Great video keep them coming please👍
Trains are great. Cairns to Brisbane in a sleeper pod .. the cost seems really fair.
My husband and teenage son did this journey from Townsville to Brisbane. They loved it. They want to do it again some day with me as well. I am sure I would love it too. Food looked great.
Great vid mate, very chilled a fun to watch. Subbed
Great video josh
I love Q.Rail, it's so ordinary, just like me. 😅
I wish they had these trains from Melbourne to Sydney. 🤔
Yes! I’d love this service connecting every capital city🤞
I've been on the Spirit of Queensland diesel tilt train, and it is super smooth and comfortable, even when its at speed, it was really nice
Have you ever travelled on the Prospector (it’s a train service in WA that goes from Perth to Kalgoorlie)? If you didn’t, it’s a must try as it’s a relatively fast train.
I’ve not been over to WA yet. But hoping to early next year, this is on my list!
@@JoshGoesSlow
$100 each way and tv at each seat although no first class runs at 160kph which isn’t bad
this is so much better the the nsw xpt service but dies not have sleeper cabins but the pods make up for it very much
Josh mate thanks for the inspiration. U should make it a point to visit India in train. U will love it
Maybe one day! There’s some trains I want to take there!
Oh, betta book one!!
Thank You Sharing
Good job , Thank you

Welcome to Brisbane

NSW: No sleepers on new intercity trains.
Qld: Railbed.
Just my two cents. But if the XPT replacements can't get sleepers fitted to them. Then a Sleeper pod would be an excellent alternative.
I think this train is perfect for Brisbane/sydney/melbourne. Let’s hope the replacement Xpt is decent.
@@JoshGoesSlow Definitely. The tilt would be especially useful up where i live as the track is quite windy.
Brilliant video Bro. Very well documented.
Never knew this was a thing
That Train needs a sleeping car carriage where you go in your room and lock the door to go to sleep no privacy in the rail beds seats
On a side note the Rockhampton to Brisbane leg is operated by 3 trains. The Diesel Tilt, The Electric Tilt, The loco hauled L Steel Carriages (Brisbane to Longreach). The latter is several hours longer because it's not designed as a high speed train.
Thank you so much ! 😊Are there any ways from Sydney to Melbourne if I would like to travel from Sydney to Melbourne by train? Thank you 😊 🎉🎉
You're right, nothing like that in NSW, and on narrow gauge too.
There is demand for tickets for this train. They should at least procure one more train set that would depart from Brisabane Thursday or Sunday and return from Cairns Saturday or Tuesday.

now that is a long train ride
Yeah! Was comfortable though!
I wish there was a similar train to Darwin. The Ghan has become a tourist attraction and way too expensive for the locals.
How long was the break when you got off at the station?
Just 5 minutes each, maybe 10 max.
I love in Cairns where do u live
What speed app do you use? Or is that a QR app for the train?
What an amazing train if only Sydney-Melbourne and Sydney-Brisbane were like this.
Too bad our Minns government doesn't give a rats about long-distance public transport.

why is your footage stuttery?. are you using a gopro?....
You should try "The Westlander"...
I’d like to try this, or the inlander maybe early next year.
Cool vid.Think I'd get on a plane though.
Instant coffee only not drip or barista made

There's no way thats a "sleeper" pod. Its a shame that got rid of the real sleeper train.
Especially if the so called “modern” fleet of trains used by Qld rail only saves a couple of hours. Nambour to Cairns was a 30 hr train trip in 1994, so you’re only convincing me that “not much has changed” except for the food service!
The seats are terrible and give u a bum ache
"26 hours.... I could be in Europe, but I'm not...... I'm in Brisbane". New slogan for tourism QLD?
🤣
You need to give the pipe a rest, you looked so strung out.
It's a shocker of a train. The old Sunlander was much better. No cabins or dining car. Talk about substandard.
first
You do know this has been covered many times in other videos from different users. How many more of these same same videos do we need to see?
I enjoy taking the train, I take them all over the world long before I started making videos. I enjoy making videos, so I make videos of the journeys I enjoy taking. It’s that simple really.

Looks like crap sorry the meals where better on the old train ever since they change the seating it’s crap
I found the lack of please and thank you when you were ordering your lunch a bit grating. A little bit of manners goes a long way
You do realise this is edited? People speak over things in the background, so things are cut to not make it confusing hearing 3 people speak.
Why does your voice go up at the end of each sentence? Super annoying.
It's the Aussie inflection, comes with the accent fyi
@BecCanWalk I'm an Aussie and although that can be heard here nowhere as much as that.
