Hi, Thank you for the video. Our shower stopped working. My husband watched your video find out what the problem we have. He bought the part - a valve assembly. When the part been deliver he was already on his business trip. Then he sent me a link of your video. And after I watched - I fixed a shower by my self!!!!!!!!!!!! Want to say a huge thank you to you!!!!!
Just wanted to say a big thank you for your video and information. My shower is probably 20 years old and in all fairness I was going to buy a new one. Watched your video and thought for £50 it’s worth a punt to see if it fixes the problem. To your credit it has done the job, struggled a little bit getting the new solenoid valve back in place as it just did not want to go in but with a bit of perseverance it did.So again many thanks I’ll buy you a pint if I ever see you in a pub😊
Cheers, as a domestic appliance installer I thought I was going to have to buy a complete new shower and get a plumber. New Mira £300 + £100 labour. Having found you on U-Tube, my shower developed the same system, loads of noise and a dribble of water. So ordered up the Solenoid Valve Assy P/No 453-13 genuine Mira part and costs around £42 on eBay. Model Mira Event XS. Fit the complete unit. I did isolate the mains, but thought as there was no power, and the solenoid is the post motor side I was ok-WRONG, panic as once I removed the solenoid housing I had hot water poring out, no cold. Once I’d shut off all the red handled stopcocks in the airing cupboard and opened the bath and basin tapes water stopped. Lesson learned.!! Watching the rest of the video step by step everything went pretty well, until I reconnected the water and found I had a small leak from the top of the water damping tank. I must of removed this assy about 7 times, and each time it leaked. Remedy the solenoid valve assy rubber O-ring was a tad too big, allowing water to escape. Used the old one, and smeared with a small amount of liquid soak and it went on first time with no leaks. (Sending that back) Re-Tested a few times before refitting cover, and all good and working. I did also have a slight leak on the alloy hose that connects to the Mira body. Sorted this by reversing the washer and pcfe tape the plastic thread on the damping vessel. Sorted, but wasted loads of time on a bloody “O” ring.
Thank you, your demo worked perfectly for me. Judging from the number of replies here it looks as though Mira should look to their quality control of these valves!
Well done video, but I have a teaser for you. when I switch on my Mira Thermostatic power shower it starts up and runs great BUT after about 5 mins the water stops flowing. not hot or cold but both. I can switch it off and go and leave it for a few mins, when I try it again it start up as normal. Then it reverts back to to my fault. I have checked the solenoid(2) one reads 4.0 ohms and the other spare reads 3.8 ohms. It really has me beat. I have also tried to remove any possible air locks. Any ideas as regards a solution I would be most grateful.
Awesome thanks, Job done, Took about an hour. Wouldn't have tried until I saw this vid. Cleaned water filters too (in video 8:03....). Well worth it to remove limescale /grit. Good to do the clean out at the early stage like you said cos it allowed time for me to notice I hadn't refitted filters properly and they were leaking reeeeeeaaaaalllly slowly. Just had to remove filters again and reseat the washers properly. If I'd not cleaned the filters 'til the end I'm not sure I would have noticed the leak. Your guidance completely appreciated.
TH-cam is a great space and this video is well put together with easy to follow instructions, I used your link and the solenoid arrived this morning, we now have a working shower, thank you Bhavin
Brilliant video, worked exactly as you described and replaced the whole valve and solenoid. Found that being a bit firm with fitting parts got them seated correctly. As with others saved me a fortune. Thanks
Really clear video and helped me identify the cause. Undertook complete replacement of solenoid + unit for £40.. needed brief help to ease onto the pump but otherwise straightforward task and saved me £280 for a new shower... result!
Thanks Bhavin, successfully solved problem and at fraction of cost of replacing the whole shower! If I can do this fix, anyone can by following this helpful video. Glenn
Very good clear video. Mine is running out of water after 3 mins, but the motor keeps running. I assume it is the solenoid valve also. I will give it a shot and let you know how I get on. Thanks for putting so much effort in.
Fantastic video - Thank you. Out of interest if replacing the whole shower unit (like for like) is that relatively straight forward. It's about 7 years old. I wonder if mounting points, pipe inlet points are all still in the same place as they were 7 years ago? Any help appreciated.
i got a mira advanced flex extra that overheats and trips my fuse box when i turn it on. i cant havnt had a shower in 2 days, please give me some tips to fix this problem
Thanks for the video, I managed to change the solenoid valve for about £40 from eBay and the only issues I had were isolating the cold water supply as the hot and cold water came from the tanks in the loft, and actually getting the valve back as it's a bit fiddly! Otherwise saving £260 by not buying a new Mira shower from Screwfix was more than worthwhile.
Sometimes, mine has the "no water" issue, but i think it just gets airlocked. I put the showerhead on the floor of the shower and switch it on and it seems to fix the issue.
This may or may not be of any help, but I'd like to share my experience just in case. I have this exact same shower and was experiencing the same problem. I was just about to order the parts to fix it and a strange thing happened - I left the shower switched off at the mains overnight (not because I thought it would help, just to isolate it) and when I switched it back on the next day, after trying the power button on the shower unit a couple of times,it suddenly sprang back to life and has been fine ever since (about a month now). I don't know if this is some kind of weird aberration or there's something simple I'm missing here but I thought it worth sharing for anyone who's experiencing this issue and might want to give it a try before they shell out possibly needlessly. As I said,it may or may not work for others, but worth noting all the same.
If the solenoid coil tests as Ok. remove the valve from the shower, pull off the solenoid coil, undo the four screws that sit on the valve, pull the valve apart noting the order of the three parts, soak all the parts and the valve (but not the coil) in a descaler or white vinegar for an hour or so. Rince parts under water dry and refit. This is the fix if you have tested the coil and it shows approx 3,500 to 4,500 thousand ohms. Don't forget to put your meter on the 20,000 thousand ohms or above to test...Ebay or Amazon "Mira shower solenoid coil with retaining lug" will find the solenoid coils
Hello, Thank you for the video. The problem I had was air lock stopping the water coming out of the shower, managed to fix it but now the on off button has broken!!. My question is do I need a front cover or just the on off button. I am sorry I could not find an email address to send you an email. Thanks, Bala
Simon Holden: Excellent video, however I have a slightly different problem the button that controls the water flow is stuck on maximum water pressure and no matter how you turn the dial the water pressure is the same. do you know which part I need to change to decrease the water. Everything else is working fine. any help much appreciated?
thanks for this video, very helpful. i wonder if anyone else has experienced the following. i have one of these showers with the symptoms shown, although, after three or four restarts it runs as normal. anyone else had this? would it still be the same part shown in the video to fix it? i too, am looking to avoid a £300+ replace and install bill!!
The problem we have with our Mira Event shower is there is no hot water coming out, only cold. When switched over to hot the shower gives out a screaming sound which says the pump is working but no hot water. It was working fine up to the first shower in the morning then the hot water stopped coming through. Can you suggest what may be wrong?
+Castortroy69 Peach It would be a good idea to clean out the filters if you haven't done so for a couple of years. Please remember to isolate the power and both hot and cold water before you give this a go. Also try to run the shower without the shower head and see if the noise goes away or improves. There might be a blockage due to limescale in the head. Please let me know how you get on.
@@jasonjay7650 Mine is doing the same thing! Checked the filters but they are both clear. I was thinking of replacing the motor ( £100) hoping that will be a good fix, and I don’t have to purchase a whole new power shower. What did you do to fix yours?
Dear Bhavin I have problem taking the temperature knob off. Mira user guide showed push fit release tool which plastic bit like W shape. Do you have any advise if I do not have this tool
You don’t need the tool, it’s a fiddle, I used two small bladed screwdrivers top and bottom, then gave a sharp tug from the bottom of the housing and it popped off. Make sure you know where the temp and speed dials are set too.
I just had someone out to look at my shower, it is the same one as in clip with the same problem and he cleaned out the filter and checked the solenoid with a meter and he said the solenoid is fine, but he could not fix the shower. He did not check the valve that is connected to the solenoid. I am wondering if that is the problem. Any thoughts please.
Found your vid useful. But when my event xs starts up there's a whining noise and low pressure for a good 10 seconds then it settles down to normal. Our one is piped directly from each hot and cold water tank gravity fed into the shower. If u can advise me on anything I'd appreciate it.
+daniel mccluskey Hi Daniel, have you tried to clean out the two filters which I show in the video? If you do try this, please make sure you do isolate the power and both hot and cold water feeds to the shower. There could also be a blockage in the shower head or pipe. If you take the head off the flexi pipe and run the shower you should get an idea if this the problem. Let me know how you get on.
Bhavin Reviews we had a plumber in yesterday and he said the filters in the shower unit were gunked up with crap. He checked the cold water and hit water tanks and he said they desperately need flushed and cleaned out which is causing the shower to do this every 6 months.
Not a bad video, but just a couple of questions, Why would you not test the supply to the solenoid coil before you start to dismantle the unit, why would you not test the coil before removing the solenoid, what would be your next option if after ordering a replacement solenoid it still didn't work. and your measurement of 3,5 ohms would pull a current of approx 69 amps as opposed to the 0.06 amps it should be pulling.
Mine stopped working no water coming out also no water in toilet and taps only have little water coming thru could b wrong toilet won't flush either no water I have water downstairs but none upstairs in shower or bath taps
Turns out my power shower just broke down after 15 years of use, sheesh. Thought it was something clogging the pipe, but it turn out the pump seized up and broke.
