I use this system but with felt Grow Bags, no you dont put a hole in the Bag. Instead you use a large plastic pot saucer, cut the hole in it, use a netcup covered with an old sock and fill the netcup and saucer with your soil mix, the saucer fits into the channel then place the Growbag on top. That way you can easily move bags around as needed without removing anything from the channel. Also roots stay in the Grow bag and dont get into your channel...
