It is only a couple of blocks on one small street that is closed. There are streets all around the are larger and have parking right next to them. Getting rid of the cars made going there much better

This has been tried countless times. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. I think it sort of depends on what kind of weather a city has and its true, restaurants are usually for it. It is common in Europe to see limited auto traffic in the downtown. Some cities only do it part of the year, mostly warmer months and during the holidays. None of these ideas always work, but many college towns find it does work. Younger population who walk more.

I like it. Only because there’s actually enough parking around the area.

So basically, businesses want the city to provide them with free public space they can monopolize? Yeah, I'm sure they're 100% on board with that plan. They don't want to have to bother with the property taxes and maintenance of outdoor space the other 6 months of the year when the weather is bad, so the city can have it back then.

If ALL business on that street isn't on board... they shouldn't do it. This is only beneficial to restaurants to gain more seating space... what restaurant would say no to that. If they want a pedestrian street... they need one "restaurant row" street. Don't screw over some business to help others.... very unfair to do that to small businesses that are already struggling in this era. At the very most... just do it during Summer.

GOOD! Now expand BART around the entire bay and remove zoning laws to end the legacy of "suburbia" for good!

We already have caltrain on the peninsula. Were you thinking about putting BART on US-101?

    • @chasemartin4450

@@readyredpanda127 I'd propose two and a half BART lines on the Peninsula - one following the Caltrain RoW to address the capacity issues which will arise with CAHSR and provide a one-seat ride around the whole Bay Area, another following highway 1 on the Pacific Coast to milk tourist revenue and fund the rest of the system (exactly like Muni's cable cars do), and a handful of lines in the South Bay / Silicon Valley to ensure all major destinations are served as the region is too wide to serve them with only one line.
A potential fourth line would follow the proposed alignment of the now-defunct "silicon express", using the old UP railroad bridge in the South Bay to provide another connection from the East Bay to the Peninsula and to serve East Palo Alto, Googleplex, etc.
All of this would be *easily* doable if we invested in trains anywhere near as much as we invest in cars...

Ya thats just what we need, MORE bullshit and MORE people. This place is crowded enough with all these new appartment buildings. Downtown has always been hell, but now it is just insufferable, and I used to be one of those clowns know as a "station head". Even WE don't like this place anymore.

I lived in San Carlos for 12 yrs. Redwood City was already good for Pedestrians but I think this will bite you in the butt because there's other cities so close by that cars can visit. Like our city, Palo Alto, Mountain View. The great thing about the Peninsula is that people with cars can go to different cities fast, like 10-15 minutes. And a note, we San Carlos resident always say that crime comes from Redwood City.
