From what I've seen at dances, the #1 thing people need to learn is that your dancing is supposed to have something to do with the music. A lot of people know some good moves but have no idea where the music beat is or even what the tempo is.

It would be terrific if Tom starts the description of HIS part. 💙 Then, Jeri can say (& and show), "Well, ladies, that was from the gentleman's point of view. This is what WE will do..." ❤
Thank you, this has been a very instructive dancing video for my wife and I. We watched it a couple of years ago to learn some swing dancing moves, and keep coming back to it. It's interesting that the instruction was done apart from being in time with the music, but we've found this to be an advantage. The steps and turns can be incorporated into other styles of dancing beyond swing.
You fully understand our method of instruction, way to go. You are using to expand your dancing experience, we actually designed the steps to be as easy as possible so that almost anyone could get started dancing. Appreciate your wonderful comment! Tom and Jeri
I did a lot of these moves during my "disco days". I had a friend who was a DJ at the clubs I frequented, and he would select guys (mostly from the military bases nearby, who were used to doing drills) who would be willing to learn the dance moves and would be honorable enough afterwards. I had a great time teaching them and dancing with them....thank you Miguel, especially. I got a few standing ovations and a photographer followed me around one night (totally freaked me out and made me feel like a Princess at the same time, lol) I never knew they were "swing dances". They were disco to me, lol. But...oh they were FUN!!!
I have watched a lot of jive clips and this is great. Beautifully paced for a novice or improving male. It shows the leads really nicely. I look forward to trying this out on some unsuspecting friend. A great thing is that there is no syncopation so I hope it can be danced to a lot of 4 time music. Most pop!
Thank you. I like it that you don't emphasise the footwork. I would like to learn the lead as I don't have a partner: your DVD gives me hope that I can do the lead. I have a sense of rhythm so hopefully my feet will do what is required.
I associate bowler hats as tuff guys , Bat Masterson,20's 30'sBritish servants, etc ,have a little style ,don't get uptight, view this twice lol , dance with your partner just be kool dude
It's just been amazing for me to see these moves and know the tag names given to them after I've been dancing for over 30 yrs the very same moves not know the names. Strange right?? 😅👍 but its gr8 to learn though..
It would be best if the video both began and ended with the dance demonstration of the moves to be taught. It is important to begin the video with a demonstration top help us learn what we are trying to achieve.
This not close to Jive or east coast swing on east coast swing you swing to the sides and the back step. A lot of his moves are from disco and latin. I dance both Jive and swing
I'd like to however second Stans comment. The video did not show the moves with the music being incorporated. Steps are fine but the moves in rhythm n tempo is most important n soothing to the eyes..🤣🤣
This video was made for the nearly 80% of people who aren't dancing. The moves are designed to be as easy as possible for people to get started and enjoy the magic of dancing. From there take dance lessons as mentioned in the video, or find other dance videos to enhance your dancing skills. Thanks for viewing!
Harold Smith The Happy Days move is the same dance move the kids on the show do in the opening credits. It is simply a pop culture reference that can tie the move to a visual memory for those that did see it.
I loved your lessons, but to me you left out the “quick quick” step at each cycle of steps. Most swing music tempo requires it. To me you left out those steps. An 80 year old man who did swing dancing almost every day of his teen years.
Compliment too to the woman dancer here, with her partner all the way. dancers need to be, "in tune" (pardon the pun) the next move coming. Sure coordination so impressive as here takes time & practice, but, seems like fun all in itself.
I won’t say that people somewhere don’t dance this way. If you ever go to a swing dance convention or even a studio ballroom they will not recognize what you’re doing as swing. It’s annoying to be jerked around in four counts when everyone else is doing six or eight count patterns. Of course what happens in hotel bars and clubs well anything goes. They do something like this in Country Western bars. You might feel quite at home there if you like country music.
I was doing the jive when I was 12 years old....because the girls could not always get partners I ended up in the mans position...so I danced all night......trouble was when I started to dance with a male partner I had a problem because I was going the wrong way .....but very ,very happy days.......I was still jiving when I was. 55 , wish I still was.
I initially thought this was from 20 years ago when I started swing dancing. please go look up lindy hop or east coast swing instead of this if you want to learn swing dancing with any sense of rhythm. However, dancing is about having fun, so if that's your goal, this is okay.....
This is the best swing dance how-to video I've watched! Very clear teaching.
Love the way you teach Tom excellent.
Terrific teacher. Wish I had this years ago..
This was so helpful! My partner and I watched this video over and over and now we are tearing it up on the dance floor!

He is a fabulous teacher. I learned all the moves from this video and added a few more! Great !
One of the best instructional videos ever ... thanks a million
I like seeing each move explained and demonstrated clearly. Thank you - this will be very helpful to many.

Magic guys, thanks a lot
Your smooth calling of the steps made it so easy to understand thank you.
My wife and I just recently started taking Swing Dance lessons and your instruction has been VERY helpful.
This video really helped me when I was still a wall flower and now I move every night!! Thank you!!

Thoughly enjoyed your style and moves. We will do all of them. Deeply appreciated. Best video of them all

great teacher! thank Tom Rocker
Great job 👌 in teaching the different positions 😌
So clear and taught perfectly. Cool guy for sure.
Best for Seniors
Thx
great job thanks so much...still learning some steps
Good & very detail lesson
This was practically perfect! Thank you, I learned a lot.
Trying to impress a girl, so this is a plus thanks ☝️

Uma aula muito bem demonstrada.
Parabéns professores.👏👏👏👏
Good sir- kind sage, this might just save my butt before the big 'hangar dance' on Saturday. One thing is clear- I need to find myself a bowler hat.
It's a fedora.
I associate bowler hats as tuff guys , Bat Masterson,20's 30'sBritish servants, etc ,have a little style ,don't get uptight, view this twice lol , dance with your partner just be kool dude
Thank you. Very helpful :)
Best thing I've found yet - forgot my old 4 count swing - this is a quick easy refresher - i can always throw in the backstep later
Very well done.
I love you guys
absolutely fantastic!
Thanks for the instructions...can add more to our moves.
So glad you liked it! It was a pleasure meeting you in Rome

very easy to follow!

Very good!

My left ear thanks you.
Very instructive. Get that poor woman some decent dancing shoes!
a demonstration with music at the end would have been ideal.
I agree. They need some music for dancing.
It would be best if the video both began and ended with the dance demonstration of the moves to be taught. It is important to begin the video with a demonstration top help us learn what we are trying to achieve.
I'm going to give time to. Prayer 😊
Imagine I learn all this in elementary school. Where they taught us to dance. So we wouldn't be shy about dancing at the school dances.
Thank you!
Basically these same moves I've been doing while dancing the Jive dance..🤣
i like it is . super.
Who else is here because it's an hour before your dance and you desperately need to learn some moves?
Would like to learn the movement of the feet and legs in the jive to go along with the moves.
This not close to Jive or east coast swing on east coast swing you swing to the sides and the back step. A lot of his moves are from disco and latin. I dance both Jive and swing
Thanks for instruction : ) If you could show these moves in practice with music as you go, this would be a better video.
How about JITTERBUG????
back in old days, and still today, we people here call this 【 Jitterbug 】.
I'd like to however second Stans comment. The video did not show the moves with the music being incorporated. Steps are fine but the moves in rhythm n tempo is most important n soothing to the eyes..🤣🤣
who else is watching this because the eighth grade swing dance unit is coming up and you don't want to make an ass out of yourself?
note to self
4:11, 7:15
The Savannah Band is good for this too.
Tom, where did you learn to dance this form of swing? Are the names of the moves coined by you?
I'm new to this but is there no rock step in this type of swing? And is this still a basic 6 count ?
This video was made for the nearly 80% of people who aren't dancing. The moves are designed to be as easy as possible for people to get started and enjoy the magic of dancing. Norman Wong. The swing that I learned was the East Coast Swing ...triple step, triple step, rock step with several different turns.
@@19ford53 I have the feeling he teaches in the Midwest, not on the East Coast.
Audio?
Good morning are you ready to dance?
Who is Happy Day?
Harold Smith Happy Days is a tv show made in the 70s about the 50s.
I dont watch TV. What is the relevance of this TV show to this dance? Was the TV show about swing dancing?
Harold Smith The Happy Days move is the same dance move the kids on the show do in the opening credits. It is simply a pop culture reference that can tie the move to a visual memory for those that did see it.
Brilliant idea. I hope it catches on.
Today is min. video with 720p standard ;-)
great dancing - very helpful - but the bleating trumpet music was annoying.
turn on the sound.
I loved your lessons, but to me you left out the “quick quick” step at each cycle of steps. Most swing music tempo requires it. To me you left out those steps. An 80 year old man who did swing dancing almost every day of his teen years.
I agree with you I dance for many years swing and Jive

Add some music our call out the tempo please.
Do I need to buy a pimp hat?
The hat is optional, but the two tone shoes are a must.
It's called a fondora hat.
😍

Great moves, but not the proper steps for swing. Triple-step, triple-step, rock step. Start with the steps not the moves
several different styles of swing dude
