I sailed to Pitcairn in 2000 and I was able to recognise in this movie some of the people who treated me so well during my stay. They had aged a bit when I met them. Great memories.
Sailed to Pitcairn Island from Panama is our 31ft sail boat GROAIS in 1979. We carried the mail to Pitcairn and spent three fantastic weeks ashore. Good to again see some of the peoples we knew and treated. When we left GROAIS was loaded with produce which lasted us the 55 day trip back to BC. The most amazing place we visited on our Pacific circumnavigation.

Again! My name is David Baker. I was on board this boat in Tahiti in 1980. It was tied off next to the W. N. Ragland, Neil Young's boat. They were of comparable size. Neil hadn't arrived yet. I was asked to do some welding on the Taiyo. I wasn't able to complete the task asked of me unfortionately. It's been 41 years and I have been forgotten unfortionately but I was there at that time. I have been a licensed and bonded contractor for 45 years and I am an honest person. Those in charge of this video may not remember me but I was there. Check out the W.M. Ragland Neil Young's boat from Canada. It also was there at that very time.

But there are some inhabitants who questioned the notion that the accused men didn't know that their behavior was wrong. We are not talking about Pitcairn 's kids starting to be sexually active at a very young age. We are talking about abuse and downright rapes!

im frm the Pacific islands too. frm a very small island called Fonueisom in Micronesia. my great great great great Grandfather is Frederich Narruhn. he is of European descend was nvr told that he was a Pirate during his time traveling all over the Pacific stealing & looting & also kidnapping womens so on & so forth as a typical pirates of those times. by the early 1900s he had a family & tried to settle down on the island of Fiji in Melanesia. there the family started to hid their dark family secrets behind the Narruhn family from the Pacific. he had two sons & a daughter. one of his son is my great great great grandfather. but today i am frm Fonueisom in Micronesia.

Jacob Meehoff my family probably only settled down when christian missionaries started arriving in the Pacific when they became guides for the christians. They helped them get around the island or to neighboring islands & helping them talk to chiefs since they were already in the islands when missionaries started arriving. They also took parts in slave trades with Australia which i am not a big fan of.

I recommend my old hardback book called - The Story of Pitcairn Island - written by Rosalind Young. My book was expensive, however, it is also cheaply available in Paperback on Amazon. My Huguenot Ancestor landed upon the Isle of Wight in 1589 - the same place where HMAS Bounty was to sailed - eventually to Pitcairn Island.
I got interrested in this iland just a month ago. And it is amazing to see this very old footage and recognize some of the people from the video's of the last 10 years or so. Besides that it is amazing to see the changes between then and now. Did you see the sailing ship /boat (or what ever you call it, I am not a nautic person) wobble in the waves. That looked scary. Also bounty bay did not seem to have the rounded corner? And of course no intwernet back than. I heard they used morse to communicate officially? (next to ham radio). this is a nice piece of history. it would be nice if the original recording date was in the title or decription.
We used Ham radio (Ve0mac) to communicate with Tom Christian on a daily basis when we left Panama. Interesting, that after we would sign off the frequency went wild with peoples calling him (VR6TC) to get a contact with one of the rarest stations in the world. We used morse code all the time, even so the world 'piled up' to talk to Tom.
In one version of the movie Muitiny on the Bounty they seemed to find the island right where it was supposed to be,but in the other quite a ways from where it was on the maps,charts.
That "Public Dinner" is what in Hawaii is called a luau, and indeed, food food and more food and you're supposed to take food home too. I'm not talking about the ones put on for the tourists, but the real thing.

I didn't get married to another girl until 1987 much later. I was 27 in 1980. The crew was mostly much older. I am now 68. The others on that boat would in there late 70 s or 80s by now. Ones memory slips at those ages I'm told.
Your idea of filming over several years is as good as any. The only other explanation is that there were two voyages. One in 1980 and another later. But I dought that they would return on the same ship to do the same thing that they had already done. Thank you for your feedback. Maybe it will remain a mystery .

Ken Young - I found one website that had several homes of the islanders that you can stay at, with them. There was one home that’s not occupied that you can rent as well. The prices were I think 125.00 - 150.00 a night. If I remembered how I found it I’d post the link. Do a google search. It should bring it up. 👍🏻 I didn’t see anything about camping. I don’t see why you couldn’t sleep outdoors if you chose to? Mosquitoes, rain, etc.. could be an issue. I just did a google search and found this : www.visitpitcairn.pn/go_there/accommodation/index.html You should definitely check into how you get there!! Only two ways by ship. From NZ (2 weeks) or Mangareva (3 days) both ways are on the ship that brings them supplies. They are limited to 12 berths. You may already know this :)

Many other islands in the pacific are much more beautiful. The place is boring, not worth the long journey. The interesting thing is it's (difficult) history. It's probably not a coincidence there has been much trouble among the inhabitants over the years.

The crew in 1980 was made up.of direct dependents from the Bounty. If that took place again in the mid 80s I was unaware of it. The ship is the same.
