This video was really touching and relatable to me. I have Social Anxiety Disorder and depression to top it off. It's not a phobia, I know but, it's symptoms are very similar. I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety when I was nine years old by a psychiatrist. I couldn't talk to people, I couldn't look at people, I couldn't help but constantly think that I was doing wrong and that people were judging me. At ten, I had my first panic attack. It was at school and I was getting teased by a group of girls (I went to an Islamic school which was co-ed but female were still separated from males). I couldn't breathe and they didn't even bother helping me. They said I was being an 'attention seeker' and that I was 'overreacting'. I got over it.. Eventually. Throughout the years, my disorder started becoming worse and panic attacks started to become more of a daily thing (due to school). It slowly evolved into something much much more menacing. I'm turning 14 now and I still can't talk to people, I can't dye my hair because I'm scared of it will drag too much attention, I can't wear bright clothes, I can't wear anything that shows too much skin, I can't let my hair down, I can't look at people, I can't go to my friend's parties, I can't go on outings. This video really means a lot. Especially since it's coming from a Malaysian. And yes, I may be going off topic but I felt like I needed to address this. Phobias and mental disorders in general are so ignored here in Malaysia and that's a fact. I hope one day they become more acknowledged. Especially at school and work.
+Mari Novak I have the same case like you! But now, I'm improving a lot! You're still young so there's still a lot ahead of you! I don't know if this gives you motivation or not but there are adults out there who are still trying their best to talk to people and they are improving. SO! You can do it! Believe me that when I was young, I had big social anxiety in school. I was the new kid in kindergarten who just migrated all the way from Philippines to Malaysia. Suddenly, moving to a new country and a new school had an impact on my life. I couldn't understand what any of my classmates were saying. They were speaking Malay or chinese or Indian. They could only speak little bit of English. I had a hard time trying to communicate with them because I've always been shy. It started to turn to Social Anxiety when I got bullied because I was different and weak, by my Malay classmates(no offense. I'm not saying all Malays are bad. I DO have Malay friends). However, in my primary school days, I got myself a few friends and I got over it. Things changed again when I changed to another city in Malaysia and had to start my Form 1 there. It was THE MOST DEPRESSING DAYS OF MY LIFE. Everyone there knew each other because they were from nearby primary schools. I was so left out and had no one to talk to. So, it appeared again. SOCIAL ANXIETY. But it reduced after I changed to a higher class and thank god, made my first friend. You see, all you need to do is just wait for that person to come along and be your friend. OR for a better cause, you can talk to another person without them approaching you by believing in yourself and remind yourself that no one cares if you can't talk. They'll be surprised but grateful that you talk to them. I am aspiring to be a teacher and a movie star. That's why I force myself to talk and face what I hate doing the most. Even when my stomach hurts and my heart beats fast and my mind blank, I will still challenge myself to do what I couldn't do because I WANT TO ACHIEVE THAT DREAM OF MINE. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?
+Mari Novak Omgosh, coming from a 14 year old, you're a really mature person. Thank you for addressing the fact that metnal health and disorders are not shown in proper light in Malaysia. Scroll the comments section and there will be people making fun of people who are OCD without knowing what OCD is. There is an army right behind you, Mari! March on with us! :D
"I'm not gonna let fear take you away..." OMG. Stab straight in the heart. What a great plot and dialogue between the two main characters Sam and Lana. Although it's formulaic, it projects the motif quite clearly.
+JinnyboyTV I have a question for you Jinnyboy, for the credit's song, did you collab with local music artist? Cause most of the credit's song that you put on youtube, I enjoyed listening them.
Ironic cause of how Ruben walks around Subang now! Whenever he visits his new Cafe, Ruben always keeps a low profile exactly like how he portrayed his character in the video! Minimal face exposure + asian height = Incognito!
You can't compare the two. They are both different styles, and they are each in different regions. So the tastes would widely differ. This may just be your opinion, but it may be different from others. And when no one asks for an opinion, we should be inclined to not express ours. :)
If someone would tell me i will watch a video of 20 some minutes of Philaphobia and doing it from start to finish, i would call him crazy and laugh at his face but guess what..... i couldn't stop after pressing play !!! Great job JinnyBoy , you can say a French Canadian guy from Quebec, Canada watch your video and said it was awesome... hats off to you '' sorry Sam lol '' , it was fun to watch !!!
This is absolutely beautiful and I kinda cries watching this. It's pretty relatable to see people go through this and I am glad this was made. Thank you for this ❤
This is so beautiful and it s really refreshing and touching to show another side of love. It s really relatable from someone with fears, this is the best. Thank you so much. I don't usually cry at short films, but I was crying at multiple parts of this one and especially balling my eyes in the last scene.
Thank you for making this video. As someone who has had a severe case of OCD for the last 15 years of my life, I really appreciate that you've included people with phobia and mental health issues in this video. Keep up your great work!
Reuben's phobia hit so close to the heart for short people that were bullied throughout their lives (he probably went through all the things he mentioned himself but to a lesser extent, that's why the feeling was so deep). Lana's perfectionist personality change when she's angry though, scares me. Didn't expect this short film can make me all teary eyes. Good job!
I can truly relate to this from the bottom of my heart because throughout my years, building self confidence and overcoming fear has always been the hardest parts in life and relationships. And to meet someone who truly accepts you for who you are is the greatest blessing one can ever encounter. Well done team Jinnyboy. :)
This video explains the importance of mutual understanding as well as how people with different phobias would behave under certain circumstances. One of the best videos i watched...
they should get someone else besides Ernest to act in a serious film. everytime i see him i just laugh. the seriousness of the situation makes me laugh even more. cant help it :D
Perfect ending, it showed both of them getting out of their fears (Lana with her hands held with Sam's without the use of sanitizer and Sam finally looking up). This is such an inspirational film for me as I have an interest in scriptwriting. Well done.
Nicely written, you guys should do these type of video more often. I really enjoyed it, i know it will took up most of your time and budget, but seriously, nicely written. I'm looking forward for the next short film by you guys/girls. P/S: Great work!
For someone who has to go through lots of personal fears every day, this really reached out to me. I really do love this video and will try harder to face my fears even more.
I have a phobia, it's called Eisotrophobia (A-so-tro-phobia). It's basically a fear of one's reflection, in other words, my reflection. It's not myself that I'm scared of. Sometimes, when I stare at my own reflection, I don't see myself. I see another figure that would scare me. I started to avoid making eye contact at the mirror or any other translucent objects that could emit my reflection. :/ Some people would say I'm a freak about this, but I just accept the fact that I have this phobia.
Love this so much!! I can feel the sadness, inspirational and at the same time being grateful with myself. Keep making the best videos like this. Good job!
A nice short film story about the different fears of each character on this video. We really need someone else to help us to conquer our fears. This is worth watching.
seriously. i am extremely hoping that this is an hour and a half movie. 3 hours would be great. please make more like this for me to spend more on you guys channel when im alone. :)
Wow! Breathtaking! The person who plays Sam did it so well, great acting. I don't have phobia or anxiety, but I've dealt with some *ridiculous* fear and I really relate to that aspect of the story. And you wanna change and you know it's absolutely fine to change and your fear isn't as it seems, but you still can't... either a thought would sneak in to make you think the fear has indeed the right and reason to be there or just plain fear would overcome. I hate it! It's why I'm so thankful for my God, my secret place, my perfect love, my best friend, saying all the right words, hitting all the right buttons, my best help... ah! I would be mentally ill if it wasn't for Him, I know it.
Wow... Awesome video.. Its true especially the last stretch of this shortfilm... Fear makes us misses alot of opportunities. Thanks guys for producing such a great shortfilm. KONFIRM i'm sharing.. :)
If you really want to mix things up, try the opposite, a tall strong good looking guy with a short ugly girl. You can tell the writer and director of this film is a guy. reuben is so cute and good in acting too. love this story so much because i can feel the pain too as a shorty. life as a shorty was hard and i know it because i am the one too . Every cousin, uncle, auntie and friends was talking about my height but is ok, i accept. how i overcome it, is by realizing my own talent and i train harder on my talent. Finally this talent cover up all the topic about my height . the talent was i can dance so well and i started my dancer life , no one talking about my height anymore. even they say dancer should had this perfect height too dance a nice move.. cheers...
Hahaha... I watched this video the moment you guys uploaded it, but I didn't think much of the title back then... Today, as I was looking over your uploads, I saw the title of this video and literally laughed... Philophobia... I learned the meaning of the word a few weeks ago from my friend in boarding school. It means, "fear or phobia of falling in love" which actually suites the video very well... I give you guys props for that... What made me laugh is that the word is actually used in our modern generation, a world where language is limited and underused (is that a word?)... Anyway, I just wanted to point out that you guys made my day... and to say that I'm proud to be a Malaysian... That's all...
i really wish that someday in Malay movies 🎥 they could make a very good story just like this and not all about cars, motorcycle and gangster movie. I hope malay movies can make a good example like this short film that teaches us many things about life. you guys are the best!!! 👍
When i watch good meaningful video, most of time left side of my eye drop tears, if both side means the video is too meaningful it hit my feeling like a train. Roll out~
This is such a beautiful short film. I dunno why, but I ended up tearing up at the end of this! Maybe because I can kind of relate to Sam, with being short and all (i'm about 4'11), plus people always towering over you. It's pretty terrifying at times..
at first I thought: "there is no way I'm watching the whole thing". 20 minutes later... I watched the whole thing... and didn't regret it. It was that beautiful of a story.
Can someone tell me the name of the music which was used in this video.. I really liked some of the music in the background. And the music at the end..
OMG. Love the acting of the two main characters. cinematography was great as always, direction, editing and music was seamless. It was a long clip by TH-cam standards but I was glued till the end. This is one of your best works so far. Congrats guys!
This video is super awesome!! For those who never heard phobia before, sometimes fear could also be definition of phobia as well. This is a power and motivation as for LOVE CONQUERED ALL!!
"...I could not let fear take you away." That line man.
Hits ya right in the feels doesn't it?
I didn't know Reuben had a serious & deep acting skills cuz all this while was just comedy. Great work & amazing story.
This video was really touching and relatable to me. I have Social Anxiety Disorder and depression to top it off. It's not a phobia, I know but, it's symptoms are very similar. a very meaningful film.. 100 thumbs up. :-)
Lana: No one is judging.

Sam: little bit more sugar

This is a brilliant film!!! Great job to the entire cast & crew and I would definitely like to see more stuff directed by Reuben!!!! :D

Hahaha, couldn't get out of character... =p
When sam started taking off his hat. My eyes just teared up. 😢 touching film/short
I felt uncomfortable too especially with clothes and apparel.
This surely can beat WongFu production. it's meaningful. The actings weren't as bad.
The girl from this show is gorgeous as well.
what is her name? :)
Seth OZ Lana LOL

Beyond amazing. Reuben's acting is excellent, believable in every nuance. I just wanted to hug and hold and protect him the whole time.
I really loved the part where Bryan (Jin Lim) was like "Its free??" and grabs the samples. Plus the Lady Liberty. LOL! HAHAH!
Reuben's phobia hit so close to the heart for short people that were bullied throughout their lives (he probably went through all the things he mentioned himself but to a lesser extent, that's why the feeling was so deep). OMG. I made a story like this when I was in middle school. Never thought it would be more amazing to be visualized. Another like to this video!
Cried so bad at the part where Sam started talking about what he learnt. Thank you for writing this and sharing this lovely short film with us! :')

A nice short film story about the different fears of each character on this video. We really need someone else to help us to conquer our fears. This is worth watching.
There's over 11 fears and I have over 5. Interestingly, they don't talk about those phobias.

What a masterpiece! I might have just watched the best short film of 2015!
If you really want to mix things up, try the opposite, a tall strong good looking guy with a short ugly girl.
You can tell the writer and director of this film is a guy. This film is probably a bit of a secret wish/desire- a babe will overlook his own fears and shortcomings.(something we all wish from our other half)
Having said that, Lana is a babe
Everyone have their own fears. Mostly they go through their fears because of someone special.

OMG. Love the acting of the two main characters. cinematography was great as always, direction, editing and music was seamless. It was a long clip by TH-cam standards but I was glued till the end. This is one of your best works so far. Congrats guys!
