    Ryan Day has been our offensive coordinator, so we are returning our OC. We just get a boost by adding an elite offensive schemer as our play caller.

    The playoff era previously did not have much in the portal. The portal changes the equation. If the portal was what it is now for the last 10 years, that stat would be different.

    They technically do have the same Offensive Coordinator on the team but he is just not calling plays.

    Kelly will use Ryan’s passing game concepts and use his running game schemes out of those formations plus many wrinkles of his own. This requires a good to great quarterback who can pull the ball, scramble for a first down and keep mistakes to a minimum. Stats will be there as Day has a way of having wide open receivers especially with a great run game.

    In the Transfer Portal Era, I think it’s foolish to have a HS Recruiting Class of more than 22 players - instead of adding 6 Transfers like this year - Bucks will need to find 9-10 Transfers next offseason, 2025 OSU Roster will need more mature College proven players to be ready to play vs. more young unproven HS kids

      @@lindzbreezyoh lindz I didn’t think something so trivial would terrify you. McCord was a one read quarterback and then either force it to Marv or the outlet receiver. Remember how many times McCord had intentional grounding penalties? Will Howard will not do that and remember how many times there wide open receivers streaking towards the end zone only for McCord to

    Kyle was 1 pass away from being the No 1 seed in the CFP => so yes, he would be more likely to win the natty this year than Will Howard.
    That doesn’t mean Howard or Brown or another OSU QB won’t win the Natty this year.
    I’m rooting for OSU to win the 1st ever 12 team playoff.

    I believe CFB Nerds did an analysis to see which type of returning production is most predictive of success and it wasn’t QB or the lines, it was returning production in the secondary. OSU is bringing our whole secondary back plus Caleb Downs and should be the best in the nation there.
    Go bucks!

    To be fair to the article's author, I would say there's a difference between "loading up on transfer players" vs "loading up on transfer talent". I don't think it's unfair to say the Buckeyes did the latter.

    • @BulletProofSoul1029
      @BulletProofSoul1029 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's an irrelevant distinction. What is the point of going after transfer players if you're not looking to "load up on talent"? Michigan didn't go after guys like Josh Wallace, Josiah Stewart, AJ Barner, Myles Hinton and Drake Nugent just to have extra bodies on the bench. Those guys were added to fill needs with the expectation of being major contributors, preferably immediate. Same as Ohio State's portal additions. There's no context where "loading up on transfer players" even makes sense; unless you're a program like Colorado that needs to totally overhaul its roster, so there should be no point to bring that up when talking about teams expected to be national championship contenders.

  • @Jon.A.Scholt
    @Jon.A.Scholt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think a returning starting QB, especially one with tons of starting experience at another program, is t as important for Ohio State this year. Mostly because they have a pretty long runway with a cupcake non con to start the season to work out kinks. Plus, any in-season losses can't eliminate you if you slip up only once or twice.
    Bottom line, the issues they have with a "first year QB" (caveat lector) don't necessarily apply.
    The bigger potential issue is Kelly and how his offense translates to the talent on the roster. Again, it's a "potential" issue; but it's also mitigated by the connection Day has with Kelly.
    In any case, there will be some team that breaks this decade long criteria at some point.

    Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but I’m not sold on Will Howard…we keep touting his “experience” but what has he accomplished? He had mediocre stats in a conference that doesn’t play defense

    • @jamesb8249
      @jamesb8249 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree with the skepticism, but not because of stats. Yes big 12 does not play good defense across the board, but he equally has less talent around him. Two different systems as well from KSU to OSU, so apples and oranges. I worry about whether he can pick up the offense in one year - Justin Fields didn’t even do it, he was so dynamic that he made plays constantly, plus JK steamrolled every game. Technically the same things are in place, we should have a dominant run game. I think Ryan will get everything he can out of Will in one year, but there are deficiencies there and I’m not sure if there will be a way to overcome that when it matters most - and that’s when the chips are all on the table, and a team commits to stopping g the run game, can Will Howard win the game with his arm? And I honestly don’t know, and that’s why I’m skeptical.
