lots of good info in this one! nice to see you helping others by sharing bait! thanks for what you share in your videos. old school is first class in my book!
Thanks Bill! That’s the unwritten code for fishermen. ALWAYS help NEVER take payment. Everyone will need help once in a while. Plus a little good JUJU on the water is always a good thing 😜😜
We can probably fish like this for one day if you want. Cook some meat, sling a few over the rail. Lower impact and comfortable yet plenty effective. 👍👍👍👍👍
I Appreciate it brother! One of my personal “rules of the water” always look out for other boaters (fishermen) especially. We ALL need help with something from time to time. I’ve needed help before and I was DANG happy to get it! 😛😛😛😛👍👍👍👍
Mark KIDCOCHIESE Garry Thanks brother!!! I am super proud of the kid, I told him that he’s gonna take the reins and he ate it up. Practiced every day in his yard for 2 weeks and after a bit of trial and error he got used to throwing from the moving boat out in the elements. I’m very fortunate to have this kid on the team. Getting old ain’t easy. 🙄🙄👍. I think I was more excited for him than HE WAS.
Out of everybody on the boat, I think the dog enjoy fishing trips the most! Get rid of those Simrads and get some flasher units if you want to be Old School. What day did you say was trash day …. LOL. Nice vid and great info!
Hey mike, yo, yo, yo from middlesex nj. Dealing with a few health issues, hope to be out drifting for fluke in raritan bay and sandy hook in the summer. Great video as always and of course dont spare the ponies with that 350. Have a great fishing season and stay safe...... walt
Sure. They are Striper Stealth rods I helped CTF design. Unfortunately they can’t keep them in stock. They sell out whenever they restock so I haven’t been mentioning them as much. If you can get some buy them quick. They are great and affordable.
Sure. Nearly all of my videos shot in fall and winter will have a thumbnail of us in cold weather gear. Heavy camo stuff. Do you mean salt or freshwater?
I mean saltwater. For summers I usually fish the night bite, daytime is mostly unproductive. For fall, I fish at day and look for birds and blitz. Would be cool to hear how you fish differently for summer and fall.
Strippers are my fave fish to catch & eat. I surfed fished for them on the shores of the Outer Banks of NC for 7 years I lived there but now I'm closer to the Chesapeake Bay. My question to you is give me some suggestions of trolling baits you have used. Always following you for quality info sir~!
Where did you find the 4 pole downrigger rod holders. I have looked everywhere and can't find those. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
You can get the rails from My buddy Joey. His cell-+1 (434) 907-1656. I use Ce Smith rod holders on the rails. The links for everything should be in the description. 👍👍👍
Awesome video! Hooking the live bunker through the bottom seems like a good idea. Would that work with spot and white perch, too? Also, when you live line, how long do you make you leaders?
Matthew White Yes, absolutely works with other baits. When drifting live we hook in the mouth and out top lip usually. Usually 5-6 ft leaders with live baits.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks for the response. I will certainty try hooking through the bottom when Maryland opens up the regular striper season next month.
I have lowrance totalscan, I'm finding it hard to see the fish on sidescan. Is the AI 3 in 1 transducer worth the upgrade? I can't find any image comparison between the two transducers.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS ive got and old truth/seigler SM Surf reel. In your opinion do you think I could use that reel the same as you do for fishing. Put some 30lb mono and free line at some dams. Money is tight right now. I learn a lot from your videos. I appreciate it more than you know!
how long is your boat? what kind of boat would you recommend for a absolute brand new father and daughter want to be stripper bass fisherman/fisher young woman?
Mike Smedley ok gotcha. Thanks for replying! Seriously it seems like you few you tubers reply to most, if not all, of their replies like I’ve seen on many of your videos. Yea I got a couple Penn Spinfishers I wanted to change the knobs out(I like the slammer knobs but got a hell of a deal on the spinfishers) but seems like most of the aftermarket you have to drill out the handle and I wanted to avoid that.
Chuck thanks brother. I appreciate that. I know what you mean about drilling. Have you searched online for custom knobs/handles? I have seen quite a few companies offer some cool bolt-on upgrades.
Mike Smedley I have some buddy but probably not as much investigating as I could have done. It seems it’s either $10 cheap you have to drill out or $80 for knobs that I’ve seen. And though I’ve always liked and had great luck with their stuff... Penn hasn’t replied to my emails about my question... the slammer comes with an interchangeable EVA or metal knob I was trying to buy a couple and put on the spinfisher.
Does accurate make a smaller size reel with twin drag that you could recommend? The 400 is just way too big for my hands and I struggle to use it. I generally run 20lb mono since our striped bass don't get that big. More like a short football with power!
Awesome strippers man i’m originally from Howard Beach now this is about 30 years ago but we used to catch a much bigger strippers, it’s still early I did hear from friends of mine that they’re regularly catching smaller ones now than before is that true from your experience ?
We are seeing some good size fish every year, that hasn’t really changed a whole lot. The numbers were certainly better back in the very late 1990’s and early 2000’s. We used to have 50 fish PLUS days consistently. We still have great days, we aren’t necessary disappointed now with a 4 fish day, where that was VERY rare 20 years ago. Thanks for the comment brother!
I just wish we had TH-cam and everything like we do now back then i’ve got so many pictures from the party boats and Montauk that look like so faded We have them here in Nashville TN. but they don’t get to big But they follow all the bait fish up to the steam plant no we’re not allowed to even go down there so you got to try to catch him on the way in or out from the discharge area which makes it pretty hard but they don’t really get that big they’re landlocked (Keep them lines tight)
What made u choose that type off boat because it looks very uncomfortable to get around but at the same time you have an amazing experience in fishing is there a reason for this boat it looks like one wrong move and you can trip overboard off the boat 😂
This is a bay boat. It’s designed to run shallower than a deep V. It’s many times more stable than a V due to the shallow deadrise. Sits very flat no matter where you are standing. It has decks on the bow and stern for casting and netting. It has low freeboard so handling fish at the gunwale is easy. I have been in one since 2003 and have never seen someone fall out. 😁.
You guys certainly looked the part lol...wheres the big fish?? If you hook the fish in the nose hell swim down..just sayin.what else oyea pump and reel son dont just haul the fish in bud they didnt teach you that in college did they? J/k nice fish guys
Lot’s of respect to you for sharing the bait with the elders!
Thanks brother!! Always show respect for those that came before you.

I agree 100%!! Wouldn’t the world be a better place if everyone thought the same way!
That idea works for me
Supper excited!!!!😀😀💪
BTW, you videos are awesome and very informative. Picking up a lot of good tips. You and TacticalBassin are two of my favorite TH-camrs on fishing.
Awesome!! Thanks brother!! I really appreciate that! 👍👍
Pretty good guy giving up some bait.Way to go Cap!

YOU SAID IT! Tommy was with his son on this day as well!
props for helping a fellow fisherman...Great video

Big like because i love fishing and 🐕
Big Thank you!!!
...for a moment there I thought Tommy was about to have some Sushi-- give that man his burger !
another great video man! I'm really digging that Sea Pro!
Thanks Brother!! The people at Sea Pro are really some of the most incredible human beings I’ve known. That company is built RIGHT!
Mike can you tell us more about the rods you are using ? I really like what I'm seeing out of them..

That beard is Epic. Awesome video.
Russell Yaksic 😂😂THANKS BROTHER!! Appreciate it!
Great job!
Thanks brother!!!
Do you have any videos on fall striper fishing? Are strategy different from summer to fall?
Would be cool to hear how you fish differently for summer and fall.
are you letting the cut bait sink to the bottom?

Awesome video just like the other ones!!! Btw is that Great Kills marina or another harbor?
Where did you find the 4 pole downrigger rod holders. I have looked everywhere and can't find those. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I believe he made those himself. I think he mentioned that once in another video.
You can get the rails from My buddy Joey. His cell-+1 (434) 907-1656. I use Ce Smith rod holders on the rails. The links for everything should be in the description. 👍👍👍
👍
what rod and reel setup was your son using?
Can you do a Montauk fishing video
We did a few in Boston and Gloucester, but haven’t done Montauk yet. Gonna have to do it. 👍

Dak 88 Absolutely. That reel will definitely get it done. Thanks brother!
Where did you get those quad rod holders?
shorehobbies The rod holders are CeSmith adjustables- amzn.to/34LwPGD
The rails are my design and made by Joey Scruggs-1 (434) 907-1656
how long is your boat? what kind of boat would you recommend for a absolute brand new father and daughter want to be stripper bass fisherman/fisher young woman?
Amazing fish
Just wondering what those reels are your using?
Thanks brother!! Accurate Valiants 400.
Another great video, thanks! Where were you fishing?
Van Lurton thanks brother!! Raritan Bay
Throw that sandwich in the net and catch the fish.. ! To funny ! Oh, and the beard cam is the best..
That really was hysterical. That hamburger was the size of a small meatloaf. 😂. Thanks for the comment brother!!! Glad you liked it.
Do you think chicken liver would work as a stripper bait
As funny as it sounds they work well for smaller Stripers, especially in freshwater.
Mike Smedley im in the northern neck of the Chesapeake far up the bay would you recommend any bait for that
Hey do you use stock knobs in your reels? If not what ones do you use/prefer?
These are stock knobs from Accurate. They come on the Valiants and I think they come on Terns now as well. I really like them.

Only trouble with SeaPro is the limber holes is the floor stringers are small and blocked by fiberglass strands. Need to drill bigger holes.
Great video! John Boy is looking good. Anymore facial hair and they would call you guys “Striper Dynasty”.
YES SIR!! Beard-Cam!
