QXM Yh I’m still in year 12 and I’ve literally been crying about my U’s trust me 😂😂 I’ve re written the same paragraph 4x and I still dk if it’s good. One of my teacher told us that her gcse class writes better then us so I asked my friend in year 11 to send me her work. I skipped year 9 btw so I started year 12 a year early so I’m telling myself I just haven’t had time to develop writing skills bc that’s all I’m struggling with. I study the great gatsby, death of a salesman, othello and John Keats’s poetry.
QXM thankkk youuu for ur advice. Yes I do AQA the tragedy component so I’m decently familiar with the aspects but I’ve never heard of megalopsychia so I’ll b sure to include that in my essays too. Context ngl I’m beautiful at, linking to tragedy I’m ok, analysis is sometimes underwhelming so I started re reading the texts and doing line by line analysis. It’s honestly just my writing that’s bad. Also I’m writing this question on gatsby rn that states ‘all are tainted by corruption in the great gatsby’ and my essay plan is heavily focused on Marxism and how it’s American values that lead to corruption and for my disagree I’m gonna say George isn’t corrupt (even tho I don’t believe that). I’m more focusing on capitalism for creating corrupt values then the corruption each character displays, like my first paragraph is on the police department and how that’s corrupt bc the police man let gatsby get away with speeding after he ‘waved his white card’. My next paragraph is on daisy / myrtle and how they represent the consumerist society (I’ll probably include the symbolism of gatsbys shirts for some AO2) and how society is corrupt bc of their materialistic values (I’ll also link it to Tom and myrtles penthouse and how she tries to overcompensate with the excess furniture etc). And for my final paragraph I’m saying George isn’t corrupt (AO5) and is manipulated by Tom into killing gatsby bc Tom has his own personal vendetta against gatsby for having a relationship with daisy so I’m saying that he displays corrupt hegemonic masculine traits that lead to gatsbys death. I’m also gonna say bc George lives in the ‘valley of ashes’ which is essentially a graveyard, every time the bourgeoisie visit, they fill up their cars with gas so they are literally sucking the life out of an already ‘desolate area’ etc so linking to Marxist theory about bourgeoisie exploiting the proletariats. I’m also gonna say the act of them filling up their car (so sucking the life of of the valley of ashes) is mirrored in George and how Tom (and daisy bc she’s the one that actually killed myrtle) lead to him taking his life, so they physically exploited George which is symbolic of the capitalist system etccc. With each of my paragraphs I have a link to Marxism so I feel like I might b doing too much on it or is this ok?
Ah this is actually so helpful, thank you! I’m in year 12 and I do Othello, Gatsby, The Handmaid’s Tale, A Street Car Named Desire, Feminine Gospels and the love anthology poems. English is by far my hardest A Level but then I agree with how you said it is so rewarding xx

I’m thinking about dropping chemistry and doing English lit as an “easy alevel” would it be easy to get a good grade and would you recommend doing it. I got a grade 6 at gcse and tbh I did enjoy gcse English lit but I’m just worried that it’s not as easy as I think
Gabby Davis it is easier than chemistry coming from someone who has done both. However, I will tell you now it is not easy if you struggle with concentration. Not comparable to GCSE as there are more assessment objectives. Good luck xxx

Last year I did Othello, Wuthering Heights and the pre 1900 love anthology
Now I’m doing Feminine Gospels, All my Sons and One flew over the cukoos nest
For my coursework I’m doing social class in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
Just thought you should know 😂
I hate studying niche texts - I’m studying Jerusalem as my modern play right now and I’m really struggling and that’s not really helped by the fact I can’t find any revision resources :(
Please please please do one for media studies!!!
This is an old comment, but if u got a 6 at gcse ur gonna struggle to probably get a C at a level
A grade 6 is like comparable to a D at A level. It's nowhere as easy as you think
Hello, I have my A Level Eng Lit exam in 3 days and your idea of writing out an analysis on common themes is a great idea I think I’ll spend the rest of my time on that since I wasn’t sure what to spend the last few days on, thank you!
